I believe this occurred in xnest previously. I used to start the
flexiserver as gdmflexiserver --xnest -screen 800x600.
But it certainly occurs in xephyr. I removed xnest after learning that
it was quite old and xephyr was the newer variant. I still see the
problem right now.

Installing libgnomevfs2-extra fixed it. I think I agree with Klaus
here. If the applet does not work at all without libgnomevfs2-extra, it

FWIW, gnome-screensaver-command -a does activate the screen saver for
me in a Gnome session (XFCE unfortunately does not bring up the window
manager in Karmic for me)
PS: Charlie just told me in IRC that the above command works for him as
well, but that the timed activation of the screensaver

I can also confirm this for the current gnome-terminal from Karmic.
This makes me suspect it is not a bug in either of the two but in a
commonly used library (vte?).
My first hunch was that this may be a problem in vte, even more so after
going through the dependencies of gnome-terminal and
FWIW, I can confirm that this is not dependent on scim running. I know
scim is quite buggy, but this time the culprit is elsewhere ;-)
