For demonstration purposes attached are the different graphical views. After
calling network and given the password the button to unlock is greyed out, in
services it is not.

btw. here is a review about Compiz mentioning the workspace switcher
By coincidence I found out with another bug #131526, that with a Human
theme the workspace switcher shows again normally, with or without
Compiz, Columns 4, Rows 1.

Similar issue. Enter correct information, no response or reaction from
computer. The icons will appear (incorrect server information or not)
after a logout and log back in. At which time I can use the icon to
connect to the server upon entering the correct password.

first, thanks to Sebastien Bacher for pointing me here, because my Bug #295711
is a duplicate.
Thanks to Eduardo Guardiola for the hint to enable crossfading, this did
the trick, no interruptings anymore.
For the record:
In my duplicate I was advised to run Rhytmbox with this command:
