I confirm that this still occurs with gnome-terminal and mate-terminal in Ubuntu 13.10. Same behaviour. Virtual terminals randomly freeze output. Note: this does not necessarily need to be long running. The behaviour is random and can arise in a few minutes (10 minutes today) or a few hours (6
