[Bug 501647] Re: Rhythmbox notification icon not shown

2010-12-07 Thread Stan
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 497021 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/497021

This is not a bug, but a feature...

Rhythmbox (Maverick) appears as a child of the sound/volume applet.

(Apologies if already resolved or if this post is otherwise
unwarranted.)

This is similar or identical with a bug previously reported, not from

same place, where you go to try and pay for a ticket that was ordered
just before.

[Bug 1773535] [NEW] Delicate failure with Ubuntu when using Firebox email

2018-05-26 Thread Stan
Public bug reported:

I received an email from my healthcare provider, Aetna, requesting that
I click on a link to take me to my login screen for a list of claims -
they wanted some information. Using Ubuntu, the link does create a new
Firefox window, but that stays white and never progresses to anything at
all. Using Windows and Firefox, this new window immediately fills up
with my login information and claims information, exactly as Aetna
intended it to do. I have tried the link with Ubuntu multiple times
with identical results. I have rebooted and there was no change. I am
up-to-date on updates.

[Bug 1758178] [NEW] Firefox has a very delicate goofup on another website

maximum price, airbnb returns with some error message after a long wait,
"It seems we are having a problem here. Please try again" or something
similar. This always happens, however, on Ubuntu Firefox. It does not
happen at all on airbnb.com when using Firefox under Windows 7 with
identical settings.

[Bug 586939] [NEW] Workspace Switcher always displays the message 'Current workspace: Desk 1' when the mouse pointer hovers over the selector box, regardless of which workspace is actually being use

2010-05-28 Thread Matt Stan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - Lucid Lynx
Version: 1:2.30.0-0ubuntu1 (gnome-panel)

The Workspace Switcher applet located on the panel always displays the
following pop-up message (or is it a 'tip'): Current workspace: Desk 1

The message is displayed when the mouse pointer hovers over the
Workspace Switcher selector boxes, regardless of which workspace is
actually being used it always says Desk 1. I have 3 workspaces set,
using 3 cols and 1 row.

Note: To submit this bug I used the Terminal command 'ubuntu-bug 1731'.
1731 being the process ID for 'wnck-applet' which is the Workspace
Switcher applet. The automated bug reporting system then listed 'gnome-
panel' as the package with the bug. I am not entirely sure this is
correct, but am proceeding under the (not unreasonable) assumption that
wnck-applet is integrated into the gnome-panel package, further re-
enforced as wnck-applet does not seem to be listed in the Ubuntu
Software package manager. Apologies if this is incorrect, but I could
see no other way of reporting this bug.

[Bug 367372] Re: Gedit uses 100% of the CPU while editing files

2014-04-27 Thread Stan Williams
Gedit started using excessive CPU Only since I upgraded to Trusty, 14.04.
I am using LUBUNTU but use Gedit, and i have use it for years on Lububtu, with
no problem, but now, the CPU runs away,
but If I hit Ctrl + S or save it calms down, I am on an older Dell GX280 and
when I edit in Gedit the fan begins to go really fast, as soon as I type or
paste a character or line, but as soon as I save it, the CPU usage slows down
to at least better , right now it is using about 12% CPU , but, I can close
Gedit and it drops to 0 to 1 % CPU usage, on average.
I was using Gedit on 13.10 with NO problems until I upgraded this box to
Trusty.

I hope this is the right place to comment, if not, please delete this (admins).
I will keep searching to see if anyone else has had a similar experience since
upgrading to 14.04.

[Bug 1245589] Re: Doesn't run, reports a zeitgeist/dbus error

2018-03-11 Thread Stan Williams
This may be due to something I have changed in my heavily modified
system rather than this bug? But it just recently started. On this
box which is my main one I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 using Metacity and
Gnome flashback, Lately I have to use a different editor as I can
no longer use Gedit from the terminal. I can however run it from the
GUI menu, I just now tried to see. And It seems I no longer Have a
zeitgeist directory so I suspect that is a good clue. I will fix mine, I
just thought I should post this in case it helps someone.

"sudo gedit" returns:

** (gedit:6054): CRITICAL **: file log.c: line 980: unexpected error:
Error calling StartServiceByName for org.gnome.zeitgeist.Engine:

[Bug 1827299] [NEW] incorrect statistics in nautilus

2019-05-01 Thread Stan Pikul
Public bug reported:

I'm using UBUNTU 18.04
I have a directory with 23 sub directories and 24000 files and 93GB used.
below is the output of df -h
/dev/sda9 119G 89G 25G 79% /Cabs

When i go and high light the 23 sub directories and get a total of the sub
directories
thru properties, it seem to loop an it goes thru each directory.
I end up getting some value like 4000 and 24 GB.
If i do the same thing on a NAS attached file system, it never stops.
I get similar results in 19.04

[Bug 869793] Re: Nautilus is very slow when opening folders with many files

2020-06-27 Thread Stan Williams
Still this way years later on Bionic with 4 cores and 8 GB RAM I just
tried to open a folder of maybe 100 images from my camera average 7 MB
eachafter maybe 3 minutes of no preview or listing of any of them,
I got frustrated and started searching for a way to make Nautilus not
even just faster but even usable. I use it to display my desktop
(metacity w/ Gnome flashback )or I would just make some other ANY
other file manager be default.

Re: [Bug 1972037] Re: Stack Overflow - gnome-control-center

2022-05-09 Thread Stan Tomlinson
two HDMI screens side-by-side
2 old nvidia cards (both GeForce 8400GS)
nvidia driver 340.108 (latest version, required by cards)
Xinerama enabled
software kept fully up-to-date with stable release

Side comment -- gnome seems to crash a lot.
This is first situation where I can use gdb to get stack information.

Re: [Bug 1972037] Re: Stack Overflow - gnome-control-center

2022-05-11 Thread Stan Tomlinson
Sebastian,

Just turned off Xinerama (for a few minutes).
For some reason, the system is unable to use both screens without Xinerama.
Played with this a lot when I upgraded to 20.04 from 16.04 (worked nicely
before upgrade).
FWIW, cursor is a big X on second screen, but no background and no moving
windows onto it.

[Bug 1963264] Re: Gnome screen recorder doesn't work on dist-upgraded jammy systems

2022-09-23 Thread Stan Angeloff
Removing ~/.cache/gstreamer-1.0/ worked for me, too.
I upgraded from ‘focal’ to ‘jammy’.
Following Bojan's suggestion, ‘pipewiresrc’ appeared
in the output of ‘gst-inspect-1.0’ after the purge.
