pango is one of the few packages still holding defoma in main (and on
the CDs). The reason is a Recommends: on x-ttcidfont-conf, which is a
supplementary package to pull truetype and CID fonts into the X font
path. pango's Recommends is obsolete - it was added in order to su
seeker5528, it looks like the issue you ran into was bug #962854, which
has also now been fixed.

Given that this error message comes from evolution, I'm not sure there's
much that can be done from update-manager to address it; I think the
package itself would need to take care to notice that it's in an
inconsistent state somehow and avoid such broken pop-ups.

This bug is caused by the recent package split of libgconf2-4 into
libgconf-2-4 and gconf-service. This upgrade includes a Breaks: on the
old version of libgconf2-4 by libgconf-2-4, which ensures that
libgconf2-4 is deconfigured before libgconf-2-4 is unpacked on upgrade.

Because reproducing this bug is dependent on filesystem order across
multiple buildds, testing the fix in SRU is non-trivial. However, the
same patch applied to precise has now resulted in all mismatched gzip-
compressed docs being fixed after a rebuild (about 5 other packages were
affected).

The "sound settings" menu item in the bluetooth applet, which should
take me directly to the sound settings dialog, instead takes me to the
gnome-control-center default page from which I have to click "sound"

There's been a security update of pam recently that was built on a
different amd64 buildd that apparently wasn't affected by the issue.
And since gzip is now in -proposed, any new non-security uploads will be
built using it. So I think we can probably consider this resolved for
pam in oneiric.
