Hi. I haven't had the chance of checking out Edgy yet - I will do so.
This is on Dapper. I thought it was better to skip the taskbar than set
a title trying to avoid text duplication - I'm not sure of course
whether this is the preferred way of doing it.

In GConf, /apps/gnome-power/manager/ can_suspend and can_hibernate are
both set to true.

I can reproduce this on Edgy too (nautilus 2.15.91-0ubuntu1). What's
weird is the following:
1.Open two nautilus sessions. Maximize the first you opened, and make
the second one smaller.
2. Open the terminal. Resize the terminal and the second nautilus window
so that you can type in the

I think the issue with that is that when you switch the language to
French say, you expect your keyboard to be French. You usually do not
expect to have a french firefox and type English in Gaim.

Gareth, this is a different issue. I *think* that users can only
shutdown/whatnot their computer if they are part of the 'adm' group -
I'm not sure. In any case, it's not a permission error because this was
present on a clean edgy installation, with me being the only user on the

I had opened a bug about this, bug 54717. Your fix works for me. I
edited 11_session_dialog.patch and changed all CanHibernate and
CanSuspend to AllowedHibernate and AllowedSuspend. Now I get
suspend and hibernate options when logging out. Hibernate won't
work, but I suspect this is a different

Sebastien: I read the original bug report and since the file opened file
here I thought that the unfriendly error is no longer an issue since it
doesn't appear. I misunderstood it though. Thanks for stopping me :-)

gnome-system-log could produce more helpful error messages
Actually on Edgy, I can't reproduce this. I created a new user, logged
in, opened gnome-system-log. I didn't belong to the 'adm' group but I
got no error messages. However, only /var/log/cups/cups_error and
/var/log/Xorg.0.log were visible.
