[Bug 970435] [NEW] Movies and songs move forward and reverse when scrolling in the playlist

2012-03-31 Thread Yfrwlf
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 12.04 totem 3.0.1 in the 3D Unity interface, even when
clicking on the playlist files in the right pane, if you have a list so
big that they go off the bottom of the pane so that you need to scroll
up and down, scrolling makes the movie or song track forwards and
backwards even when the mouse is hovering over the playlist.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Thanks.

Agreed, resizing is basically required to use this program so either the
initial window needs to be created larger or automatic resizing needs to
be re-enabled.

[Bug 762058] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty after gnome screensaver, can't click or focus

2011-09-10 Thread Yfrwlf
Not having an issue now right after a screen lock, however windows are
still unclickable at times which is probably the same bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/840285

https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/834034

Or I'll try to minimize a window and it won't minimize, but will. The
window will stay there, but when I click it will click through to the
desktop. I can make the highlight box with my mouse to highlight
folders and other icons on the desktop. However, I CAN alt-click, and
then it suddenly WILL click on the window. It makes no sense...what
freaky bugs...

[Bug 762058] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty after gnome screensaver, can't click or focus

2011-09-03 Thread Yfrwlf
I believe I have greatly narrowed down the problem...

Upon switching from my Saitek Eclipse II keyboard to another one, the
issue has gone away. That apparently means that this has to be either a
driver problem then, or a Xorg (perhaps Xinput?) problem, or all of the
above? No clue yet.

Next step I guess is to find out what driver it was using.

Could any user experiencing this bug report what keyboard driver they
are using?

I'm sure there is a much better method than this, but doing an lsmod and
comparing the output when you're using different keyboards would be one
way, but that's not acceptable for laptops when you can't swap the
keyboards on them. Would need to find out the commands to use to find
out the keyboard driver and info specifically.

[Bug 762058] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty after gnome screensaver, can't click or focus

2011-08-15 Thread Yfrwlf
Some more about this bug:

It seems it's a problem with window focus. If the gnome panel has
focus, you can click and manipulate things in the panel, but not
anywhere else. If Firefox has focus, you can click and do stuff there,
including moving the window, but you can't click on or manipulate or
scroll or anything in any other window, *even* if you alt-tab to other
windows. Those other windows will highlight and be selected after alt-
tabbing, but the *mouse* still can't manipulate them in any way. So
it's like the mouse is basically trapped and focused on certain
windows independently from everything else.

If you alt-F4 to close the focused window, your mouse will be able to
operate in the newly-focused window.

[Bug 762058] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty after gnome screensaver, can't click or focus

2011-08-15 Thread Yfrwlf
I've managed to reproduce a way to temporarily get out of the problem:

Right-click inside the window which has mouse focus, so that the right-
click menu appears.

You can then click on other windows for a while.

After clicking again in the window which had focus though, your focus is
once again stolen and you'll be trapped again and only able to click in
that window.

It's like somehow the gnome right-click menu lets you break out of being
trapped, at least temporarily...

Can anyone else verify all this?

Weird!

[Bug 762058] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty after gnome screensaver, can't click or focus

2011-08-14 Thread Yfrwlf
This is also happening in Linux Mint 11, since it's based on Ubuntu
11.04. Some notes:

Seems to only happen after the power saver is engaged (screensaver was
disabled).

Temporarily fixed by switching to a different TTY.

Temporarily fixed by reloading the window manager, or by switching
window managers (with Compiz Fusion icon), but issue exists in both
Compiz and Metacity.

Sometimes right clicking on panel, using the keyboard, clicking on
menus, etc, will make certain other things work, or all things, but
shortly after it gums up again i.e. stops responding.

I even bought a new mouse since first experiencing this (not because of
the bug, but because I wanted a different one), and the problem remains.

Can't someone give any help as to something to test? I know there is a
command-line program to listen for input device commands for instance,
and was wondering if there were any programs to find out how many
windows there are on the screen, or what window is being clicked on, or
what X is doing when there is a click, etc? Some sort of debugging
tool.

In a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.04, this same issue is still happening.
I'll come back to find that nothing is clickable on my desktop after my

There has to be another user out there experiencing the same problem??

[Bug 762058] [NEW] Ubuntu 11.04 Natty after gnome screensaver, can't click or focus

2011-04-15 Thread Yfrwlf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Surprised if no one else has reported this, but it is an intermittent
thing. I've been using 11.04 throughout alpha and beta for a while now,
and have even done a fresh install...

Now and then, after gnome-screensaver is enabled either by locking the
screen or automatically after the inactivity time runs out, after
unlocking the screen and coming out of gnome-screensaver, window focus
will act like it is stolen by an invisible program. Clicking on windows
will move them to the foreground, but not make them the active window
via window title highlighting. If I continue to alt-tab and click
around, especially after clicking on menus, the problem will get worse
to the point that I can't click anywhere or do anything on the desktop
at all, even with most keyboard shortcuts. Alt-tab no longer works.
Menus aren't displayed. Windows aren't movable via alt-left-click-
dragging. However, I can do alt-F2 to pull up a run box, and I can
ctrl-alt-F# out to another tty.

While in gnome-terminal, I noticed that the cursor would only be
selected for 5 seconds or so at a time before being inactive for 5
seconds, rinse, repeat, making it difficult to type things. Killing
gnome-screensaver puts a stop to this, but does NOT fix any other
problem with the desktop being unresponsive to most keyboard or mouse
shortcuts. To me, that would seem to indicate a problem with gnome-
screensaver, and perhaps why killing the process doesn't completely fix
it is due to some lingering X issue that gnome-screensaver caused. Add
to that the fact this only happens after a gnome-screensaver unlock, and
it's pretty convincing that it is the problem, though perhaps Compiz or
whatever compositing manager could be compounding the issue?

I find it hard that I'm the only one who has noticed this intermittent
issue. It's almost like there is a stuck key suddenly, and my keyboard
is going bad, but I doubt it because nothing I hit or do will fix this
problem, yet after a restart everything is fine, while a stuck key would
immediately make the problem occur again.

Anyone else find this bug?

[Bug 762058] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty after gnome screensaver, can't click or focus

2011-04-15 Thread Yfrwlf
I just had this happen again. The only similarity may be having
Thunderbird open, not sure if I have had it open during each of these
occurrences. Perhaps the new email notification window in Thunderbird
messed up the window focus.

The only other commonality seems to be that you need to wait for a long
while. It doesn't seem to happen after quick locks/unlocks. Perhaps
that means the bug is in power saving mode if this is only happening
after it puts the monitor to sleep.

[Bug 265033] Re: Form contents are invisible when cursor leaves field, but data is still saved in form.

2011-01-13 Thread Yfrwlf
(This is not a problem with Firefox btw.)

I have a PDF file that I saved (also from a government website). After
opening and editing the fields in this PDF file, the font format
disappears after clicking away from the field due to, apparently, Evince
not being able to recognise the desired font type that the PDF wants for
that field, and so not displaying anything at all as a result.

However, you don't need to do any kind of font type conversion or
whatnot to fix this issue. After simply saving the PDF file again
*using Evince* (using Save a Copy...), it will then change the font
type of the fields to some other type it actually can actually display,.
Then, if you open the new copy, and edit the fields, it will then
display the entered text in the fields.

If you look at the properties of both PDF files using Evince, in the
font tab it lists three extra named fonts in the new saved copy along
with a bunch of no name fonts, while the original PDF that has
invisible fields only lists the no name fonts.

I think dgandhi's comment above that having Evince default to some font
type if the font type a field is calling for isn't recognised being
undesirable is a huge mistake. It's MUCH more desirable to have a
slightly incorrect font type appear in a field than having a user
experience invisible fields, it not only being extremely confusing but
also making it impossible to print the PDF as no entered form data would
show up. Also, another useful feature, semi-solution, and also to
correct dgandhi's concern would be if Evince had a font selector. This
way, even if the default font was too different looking from what the
PDF field had originally been calling for, the user could select a font
type that was more similar.

Regardless though, making Evince choose a default font type should be
the immediate solution to this bug which I agree is a fairly severe bug
to have, even if it only effects certain PDF documents. Here in the
U.S. at least, unknown font types coming from government PDF files seems
to be fairly common.

[Bug 700739] Re: Having to click once to close an open Gnome menu is confusing for new users

2011-01-10 Thread Yfrwlf
I thought you just had to change the type of X window that gets created
for Gnome menus from one which steals focus to one which doesn't
basically? Menus (simply a different kind of X window) clearly have a
different kind of focus setting than most normal windows do, like
Nautilus windows.

You'd think there would be a master control for any and all menu GTK
windows, so that making such a change wouldn't be required across all
programs, but only for the menu window class.

But, I guess you know it's not an easy fix like that, since you said it
wasn't.

[Bug 560588] Re: Nautilus in Lucid Lynx Samba could not display network location dbus error gvfsd-smb-browse

2010-04-11 Thread Yfrwlf
I tried logging out and back in, and could then remount the same share.

In the case mentioned above where I tried rebooting on a computer and
that did not help, I had told it to save the password indefinitely.

This means that this issue is somehow related to whether or not the
password for a share has been saved previously.

I'm really surprised if I'm the only one to have reported this yet if I
am as this bug has been in Lucid for a while now and seems like quite a
major bug given that SMB is the default method for file sharing via the
Gnome GUI.

[Bug 363184] [NEW] jaunty: totem volume control flaky

2009-04-17 Thread Yfrwlf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

In Jaunty currently the volume control goes all over the place easily if
you move the mouse much when trying to adjust it. For instance, moving
it up a little makes the volume go down a bit and if you keep moving up
it jumps to zero, and in general it's just random and flaky and not very
user friendly and of course makes the sound playback annoying. ^^

Thanks!

[Bug 317292] Re: New Volume Control in Jaunty should have an option to enable/disable analogue surround and digital audio (IEC958/SPDIF)

2009-02-01 Thread Yfrwlf
Have the same problem too, outputting to optical needs to either be
listed as a separate output device, or there needs to be an option to
turn it on/off.

[Bug 204324] Re: Nautilus should allow execution of arbitrary files with execute bit set

2008-05-31 Thread Yfrwlf
I'm assuming binfmt-misc is standard and is in Ubuntu by default and is
the way the kernel executes files. If so, I also am experiencing this,
and I would guess that the easiest solution for a quick fix would be to
have Run be a special option that's always available for executable
files. I assume it's also what you'd normally want as the default
option, but preferences could be set based on file type. For example,
if you wanted all executable BIN files to be run, but all executable SH
files to be opened in GEdit, that seems like that should be doable,
though I don't know how much Nautilus pays attention to the extensions
as it tries to see what the actual file type is regardless of it's name,
which is a great feature. Any way, at the very least, making Run be
an option for all executable files would be nice.

I think this is the way it used to be, too, in earlier versions of
Ubuntu, so perhaps this is a problem with the new GVFS being used?
Anyone else have this problem?

I have a bin file, Google Earth to be specific, and when I click on it
it says could display because location isn't a folder, and when right
clicking the only option is Open with 'Open Folder'. I've seen this
problem with other executables as well. I just tried it on another
computer with 8.04, and it keeps the only options available as the
options for opening the file normally, nothing is changed when you make
it executable except that it views the file type as a program in the
file properties.

Any way, yeah this would be a nice bug to see fixed so that installing
stuff is easier for those who don't know how to run something via the
command line. ^^

[Bug 203499] [NEW] [Hardy] Possible GVFS/iphone (gphoto2) issue, Error writing file: -108: No such file or directory

2008-03-18 Thread Yfrwlf
Public bug reported:

Getting this error when I try to copy a file to my iphone in Hardy:
There was an error copying the file into gphoto2://[usb:004,004]/DCIM/100APPLE.

More details shows:
Error writing file: -108: No such file or directory

The phone is jailbroken and hacked and such, and I have not yet tested
file copying on any older distros yet, so I'm not sure if it's GVFS or
the phone or both.

Yeah yeah I know Apple is proprietary and annoying, but this could be a
bigger problem than just the iphone, so I thought I'd report it
regardless. :)

Anyone else having this issue? Is it something I did wrong? :P Any
help info I could report?

Thanks.
