[Bug 1024961] [NEW] Gimp causes session to close immediately

2012-07-15 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

Whenever I use Gimp, with the first mouse click in the image (e.g.
selecting a region or ANYTHING else) - my Ubuntu session is immediately
killed - all windows disappear and I return to the login screen of
Ubuntu.

No matter what was running - it is closed and lost.

There are no other signs I can see, simply nothing. I have never
experienced anything like this before and I do only get this when using
Gimp, no other programs cause problems!

How can I track this down? I am using the regular Ubuntu version of Gimp
2.6 that comes from the repositories!

[Bug 948214] [NEW] Clicking breadcrumb does not select panel in Nautilus

2012-03-06 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

This is a real show-stopper for using more than one panel.

When showing an additional view on a directory using the F3
functionality additional panel (don't know the English translation for
it, in German: zusätzliche Leiste) you see two different locations
side-by-side. This is nice and really handy.

What really is inconsistent: to switch between them you have to click inside
the main area, clicking on the breadcrumb above each panel does not switch the
focus at all, the click is ignored completely!
I would definitely expect this to work as I always fall for that, wanting to
switch directories in one panel by clicking on its bread crumb - with no
effect. I need to click inside the main area first and then again, second
click, in the bread crumb.

Pleaase change this

Thanks!

[Bug 875841] Re: Brasero cannot burn CD anymore - empty disc is shown with 5.8MB free space

2011-11-15 Thread Zordid
Hey folks - why does nothing happen here

I just wanted to burn a DVD-R - no luck. Says it's got 1,9GB of free
space instead of around 4 GB! Plus: I cannot select the media, and if I
do Brasero immediately crashes!

What is this bug about? Hardware incompatibility?

PLEASE HELP!

The problem with the undecorated elements happened again - in my case
when I start Ubuntu.

nautilius -q
and restarting it with
nautilus

seems to fix it. At least that's quicker than a new restart... :-(
Any chance this bug is fixed soon??

[Bug 742544] Re: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups

2011-11-04 Thread Zordid
Thanks Daniel - will try that.
But since this fix was not there at the time of release, I rearranged my whole
set up - moved the laptop to the right of my main monitor so the launcher will
be in front of me... :-(

Now: I got a new problem, also associated with the honoring of the
primary monitor setting: the pop-up notifications unity displays are
always on the right edge of the VIRTUAL, the complete desktop. But that
is far, far away from where I notice it! So: it is more or less useless!

My wish: the primary monitor as set in NVIDEA X Server Settings must:
a) display the launcher
b) display the notifications

Is that possible? Where should I file this bug??? Could you also fix
that?

[Bug 876844] [NEW] Ubuntu Notification Popups appear on secondary monitor in Nvidea Twinview, not on primary

2011-10-17 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

I got NVidea's twinview enabled with two monitors - one in front of me (main)
and one to the left (secondary, NOT main!).
[Because of enough trouble with the launcher bar on the leftmost edge of the
virtual desktop of 2 times HDTV...]

Now, notification popups like new mail, connection established, whatever
- they all appear on the SECONDARY monitor far, far to my right where a
notfication does not make ANY sense! I don't see it pop-up there!

Either it should be displayed on BOTH monitors or the MAIN monitor setting must
be followed and popups be displayed there!
It's really unusable this way. I wonder: does no developer of Ubuntu ever use a
two-monitor-setup

I wanted to burn the image of Ubuntu Oneiric, 64bit - but either the dialog
shows a free space of a few MB for a completely new CD-R OR when I start the

crashes immediately when selecting the image and the drive.

How can I set the screen the launcher should be on?

I find the whole discussion here so ridiculous! Since Windows 95 you can
drag Windows' task bar where ever you like - why can't this be done in a

[Bug 856716] [NEW] Copy dialog prevents new Nautilus windows to be opened with starter

2011-09-22 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

When long running copy/move operations are in progress and ALL other
normal Nautilus windows are closed, leaving only the one operation
dialog open - the Ubuntu starter will not open any new normal Nautilus
windows to work with when pressing the starter icon!

The one remaining dialog is counted as a regular Nautilus window which is
brought to the front - that's all!
Because this dialog does not have a menu, it is impossible to get a new window
to work with unless you use the shell!

Don't know whether this is Nautilus or Ubuntu starter's problem - but it
is a problem nevertheless!

[Bug 822246] [NEW] Nautilus crashes after moving folders from USB attachted device to HDD

[Bug 388550] Re: Can't change default calendar view

2011-07-04 Thread Zordid
@Marcel: okay, but there I need a different account, do I? That is really
annoying :-(
I also wanted to check in Oneiric - but I cannot get it to run in my VirtualBox
- when booting it hangs with udevd[58]: error: runtime directory '/run/udev'
not writable, for now falling back to '/dev/.udev'
That's it - stopping there, nothing to come anymore. Gee

[Bug 805588] [NEW] Chat history for Facebook lacks name of friend but shows ids

2011-07-04 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

Looking at Empathy's chat history (protocol, don't know the english menu name
for it) reveals that instead of the friends' names, their numeric ID is shown -
unreadable, unusable - does anybody test features like this? ;-)
See attached screenshot, please!

[Bug 388550] Re: Can't change default calendar view

2011-07-04 Thread Zordid
Tried waiting - for half an hour, did not work. :-( I did it again and
did not perform the announced distribution upgrade, then it still works!

Now: Evolution 3.0.2 still HAS the same old bug. Changing the date
screws the selected view!

Annoying and I ask myself: does ANYBODY who develops such an application
ever use it himself? *gr*

Please, could anybody with a bugzilla account post the upstream bug? I
don't want to have millions of accounts all over the world!

[Bug 388550] Re: Can't change default calendar view

2011-07-04 Thread Zordid
No, that is not true. I just tested the work week view, clicked change
month in the little calendar to the left and ended up in day view!

There's even another strange behavior to see: when you enable week numbers
(shown in the little calendar), select work week view and then click on the
week numbers, you stay in work week view - that is correct. But clicking next
month then (only when week numbers is enabled!!) you end up in the next month,
but the shown week (still work week view) is something like Wednesday to
Tuesday or Thursday to Wednesday - but NOT Monday through Sunday anymore!
Very, very annoying and wrong behavior!!

Could somebody please just see how Outlook does this? That would be
correct behavior!

[Bug 805114] [NEW] Switching to next/prev month changes view

2011-07-03 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

My favorite view is the work week view - all 7 days next to each
other, all other views are not necessary...

But: when I click on the left or right arrow button in the small
calendar in the left panel to go to the next or previous month,
Evolution always changes the selected view to day view - but why???

I consider this to be a bug as moving in the calendar should never
affect the user selected view - it has nothing to do with it!

Please fix!

[Bug 803983] [NEW] When opening second picture, window does not get focus

2011-06-30 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

I was really annoyed by eog today because whenever I double-clicked a
picture the opened eog window did not get the focus, even though it
popped up in front. When pressing any key like left arrow or right to
move to next/prev picture, it failed. Nautilus still had keyboard focus!

I found out that happened because I forgot another eog window somewhere
else, minimized, on different screen, it does not matter.

To reproduce: open one picture with eog, leave that window.

Go back to Nautilus, open a second picture! The unity dock indicates by
shaking the icon, but the new picture appears - just as you want. But it
will not have keyboard focus.

That is really, really annoying.
Maybe it's a Unity bug though, I am not sure...

[Bug 799474] [NEW] Trash can not working on different partition but root

2011-06-19 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Because I have a fast, but small SSD, some of my user home files, like
videos, reside on a secondary real harddisk.

I got a mountpoint /homehdd that is used as a mountpoint for my partition on
the hdd.
I got a symbolic link of the Videos folder of my user redirected to this
position.

But now: whenever I delete a file in any of those folders, it cannot be
moved to trash but instead has to be deleted immediately.

How on earth can I get a trashcan on other partitions???
It IS working on USB devices, but why not here?

I consider this to be a bug.
More specific: it is a Nautilus bug to simply state cannot move to trash, do
you want to delete immediately? - I expect a REASON why it cannot be moved to
trash so I can DO something about it!

The lack of information is really a bug, in case anybody does not
consider the behavior of the trashcan to be a bug!

[Bug 797116] [NEW] Import of photos to be COPIED does not work correctly

2011-06-14 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I try to import photos into my library, put the new photo (a sinlge picture!)
into a temp folder in my home directory.
Choose import folder, select the folder and THEN choose Copy instead of
link.

= the picture is not copied but stays where it is! When I open Nautilus
using the context menu on this picture, the temp folder is shown!

Tough bug! What happens when I choose to copy??? Is that ignored? Is it
because it is a single picture??

Maybe this is important:

I have a Solid State Disk with my home on it. But large amounts of data
(like my pictures!) are stored on the second hard disk drive. So my
Pictures folder is a symlink to a different partition!! ~/Pictures -
/homehdd/myuser/Pictures

Maybe that is causing the trouble??

Also: copying the picture into the correct destination folder does not
trigger the watch feature correctly! Shotwell does not realize there's a
new picture!

[Bug 796342] [NEW] How to set small icons for folders??

2011-06-12 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I need to have my own special folders: Music, Pictures, Videos (are on
different mount point) and link using symbolic links to my home.
It seems absolutely impossible to have my own folder replace Music for
example! I could set the folder icon to have the note in front - but there
seems to be something like a small folder icon if you zoom Nautilus to 33%
the icons change - but my own folder does not!
Also as a bookmark my folder does not display the one note that the normal
Music folder has! (that is the small icon!)

I find it extremely annoying that there seem to be features that cannot
be accessed and are not described anywhere!

Could somebody please fix this or explain it???

[Bug 762670] Re: Laptop brightness on Dell XPS not controllable

2011-04-17 Thread Zordid
Here's the log file.

Turned brightness down to lowest setting and up again using the fn-keys.
Nothing happened to the actual brightness, of course!

[Bug 635668] [NEW] Evolution asks whether to mark messages unread in subfolders, too - but there are no subfolders!

2010-09-11 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Whenever I use mark all messages as read on a folder, the latest
version of Evolution asks whether to do this operation on subfolders,
too. Well, that would be nice - if there WERE subfolders. It's rather
annoying to always get that stupid dialog; I know what I want to do -
and the question would be reasonable if there were any subfolders.

But please: if there are no subfolders anyway: don't ask!
Thanks! :-)

[Bug 635953] [NEW] Ctrl-C while editing file names won't copy selected text - but the whole file!

2010-09-11 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When trying to rename files and taking parts of other file's names, I
usually select the other file, press F2, select part (or all) of this
file's name and press Ctrl-C. Now, when I want to use the copied text
snippet, I select another file, press F2 again and do Ctrl-V - but the
bug now is: Nautilus did NOT copy the selected text from the edit box
into the clipboard, but instead the reference to the file - and Ctrl-V
leads to duplication of the complete file!!

I tried using the context menu: pressing F2 for rename, select part of a
file's name, now go to the right mouse-button context menu and select
Copy there - this works!!

So: while editing file names, Ctrl-C behaves differently from context-
menu's Copy command in the same situation!

== Nautilus should NOT put the reference to a file into the clipboard
on Ctrl-C if one is editing the filename!

[Bug 631960] [NEW] Connecting to smb mount fails - gvfsd-smb just eats CPU

2010-09-06 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

served by a netdrive (FRITZ!Box with USB Device attached) Its location is

Now, with 10.10 all I get when trying to connect is CPU load going up with a

[Bug 197762] Re: file transfers on USB flash key (pendrive) or USB HDD are slowing down with time

2010-04-02 Thread Zordid
This bug is the most annoying, most critical and nerve-wracking one in the
whole Ubuntu universe!
This makes me hate my beloved Ubuntu cause I am not able to use ANY
USB-connected memory device! I can also constitute that when copying large
files (100MB) to any USB device (memory stick, hard drive, does not matter...)
the transfer starts normal with a couple of MB/sec, everything's normal - but
then, after 100 MB have been transfered, the speed drops dramatically down to a
few KB/sec - when copying 2 GB files, I sometimes get the remaining time up to
over 1 hour!!

What I can see then, is that the load of the system rises to 6 or even 8
- only because of that file transfer going on. When the copy finally is
done, the system behaves normal again and the load is where it belongs,
0.something or so.

This problem has been there for quite some time now, at least the last
1,5 to 2 years! I am not sure though when it first hit me...

I am using the 64bit Ubuntu 9.10 currently on a Dell Latitude D830.

Is there ANYBODY out there who knows how to fix this?? I don't want to
have to use Windows just because file copying is so damn slow! Also, I
am always kind of in a trouble when I want to copy files for friends:
when they see how long it takes I cannot find a single positive argument
for them to switch to Ubuntu anymore!! :-(
