admin.

Sometimes I get connected to the access point of the neighbors, which might be
illegal in some countries? (not that it should ever be a problem :P)

The open source driver seems to work fine now with log outs. I am also
having black screens after resume, this is with both drivers. I am using
the 64 bit version of ubuntu, btw.

I added libsmbios to this bug because I think it is caused there. I
recompiled the source with debug output enabled (apt-get source
debuild). I cannot set the brightness with the tools in libsmbios-bin
either. Results are as above and I noted two other things: When trying
to set the AC mode
Oh yes, the brightness keys do not change the brightness anymore since
some update between 8.04-beta and now. hal/gpm do get events for them
though (which is good) but I do not have any means of changing the
brightness now.

upstream fix for this issue and quickdirty hacks to make setbrightness
work (dim on idle/battery) and not make gpm do setbrightness on

On my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop brightness keys work fine because they are done
in hardware (bios 2.6.3), but dim on idle/battery does not work. I narrowed it

For me (on hardy, but it was the same on gutsy) the minimum is 11
minutes, but I agree that a minimum of 1 minute makes sense, I think 11
minutes is too long in certain conditions. A friend of mine was also
complaining about this. Should not be too hard to set to lower I guess.

Setting gpm status back to new, since as I explained gpm is also

About gpm, leave it invalid for now, but I guess when the hal bug is
fixed it still requires gpm changes so it does not do stuff twice.

Same for me, also on an inspiron 1501.
However there are more issues, the powermanager is also slow: disconnect
power and it takes more than half a minute before it shows.
I think this was introduced somewhere between hardy alpha2 and alpha3
when iirc something with the polling intervals

Yep I have that too. I spend some time looking at the output from gnome-
power-manager and noticed it did not get any results from GetBrightness
and SetBrightness results. Might be some dbus policy issue, a
malfunctioning hald-addon-dell-backlight but is also not recognised some
keycodes (will
Btw2, the keycode/polling things I mentioned earlier don't have anything
to do with this.

I managed to get an X freeze for a while too after some stressing
keypresses :) The power applet also freezes, but it always does after
pressing a brightness key (and it never wakes up again).

I tried fedora 9 and indeed the brightness keys work, but not correctly!
(No dim on idle etc). It worked on ubuntu this way during hardy's
alpha's (stopped working somewhere around alpha 6/beta). For this to
work correctly all brightness changes should be done by hal so dim on
idle/battery can
Dim on idle/battery works fine now (on intrepid), only when using the
brightness keys the events are sometimes repeated more than once (I understand
this is already known?). I also do not experience slowdowns anymore. For me
this bug is now solved.
I cannot afford to try the testing release
For me it was renaming a file on an ftp server.

I agree, for me it has always said Desktop effects could not be
enabled (hardy alpha 3) but no info on what went wrong. and if there is
a way to solve this. For example in my case GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap
is not found enough in glxinfo and it would be great if this info was

I can add my wallpaper disappeared after installing these packages. When
I try to change the wallpaper the screen turns black and than back to
gray again. When I log out i can see the wallpaper briefly.
