I've struggled to get a backtrace as gdb hangs when using it against a
running gnome-settings-daemon PID (not even responding to Ctrl+C), but
when killing all running gnome-settings-daemon processes and then

- No sound on Thinkpad X60 since last update
+ No way to reset ALSA state from GUI

- Hi, since I updated my ubuntu the last time, I have no sound on my
- Thinkpad X60. Referring to lspci it is a Intel Corporation 82801G sound
- card. It already worked

I was able to fix this problem by installing all new updates.
Because I was unable to use WLAN I had to do the following steps:
1. Boot from the Ubuntu CD
2. Connecto to your WLAN (i.e. make sure that you have an internet connection)
3. Mount your linux partition (on my computer it got mounted
