I plugged in my Ipod this morning to get further debug info.
Everything works now though (I had transfered music to it using Winamp
at home).
Perhaps this bug is only a problem adding music to brand-new Ipod's?
It can't properly initialize a music folder or something similar perhaps?

By chance do you have an Nvidia graphics card. My test machine was
doing the same thing. gnome-system-monitor using high 90% switching to
resources tab would spike it to 100%. I did not have the nvidia drivers
enabled. Once I enabled them and rebooted my system has stabilized.
I was seeing very slow Gnome load times as well.
After reading a misconfigured loopback comment above, I checked my
network interface settings, and sure enough, I had configured a static
IP address for my ethernet interface and the slow startup would happen
only when I didn't have the ethernet

I should point out that this is the setup I have when I boot directly
from the Edgy RC CD, so it isn't possible that I changed anything.
