[Bug 1508146] Re: Alt+left/right arrows switch between tty consoles (Gnome Shell vanishes), cannot disable
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 520546 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/520546 Is there really any reason why keyboard-configuration.postinst passes --force to setupcon? In Debian we do this in the Debian installer because it is running within a bterm and thus can't detect it's running on the Linux console. But we never do this for an installed system. Apparently Ubuntu took that code snipped and dropped the check for being running within the Debian installer, and thus erroneously run with --force when DISPLAY is empty (typically from unattended upgrades and such), with the resulting observed effects of this bug report. [Bug 1401917] [NEW] GVFS Samba mounts time out after inactivity
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 14.04, gvfs version 1.20.1.-1ubuntu1, Samba mounts time out after a period of inactivity. I did some network traffic logging between gvfs and cifs as any samba mounts via cifs never time out. I discovered that CIFS periodicly sends an SMB Echo Request packet to keep the socket connection open while GVFS fails to do this. As a result a file server may kill the inactive connection however the mount inside of the file browser stays around. As a result, attempts to access the disconnected share results in waiting for an error box to pop up just so it can be unmounted and remounted. ** Affects: gvfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1401917 Title: GVFS Samba mounts time out after inactivity To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1401917/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 221112]
I too believe that Andreas' proposal is the right one. It permits people who really want the extra 5th level to be able to easily get it, while not breaking the 99% usual usage. Just for the record, I had not seen the linuxfr discussion. I guess mostly only people who would want the extra 5th level did realize that it would steal the right control key. [Bug 796076] Re: When run as root [gksudo gedit whatever] gedit tries to open a 2nd 'untitled document 1'
I have a workaround for those LTS users like me who haven't got the fixed gedit. As stated if gksudo gksudo gedit is run, it doesn't create the empty document. Therefore, adding this: gksudo() { if [ $1 = gedit ] then shift gksudo gksudo gedit $@ else command gksudo $@ fi } to your .bashrc will fix it. For those who don't know bash, it's a function that will be called when the user types gksudo. If the second argument is gedit, then it shifts the argument array, to drop off the first, and then passes the argument array to gksudo gksudo gedit. (This makes sure that if the users specifies a file to open it will get opened). Otherwise it just runs gksudo for us. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gedit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/796076 Title: When run as root [gksudo gedit whatever] gedit tries to open a 2nd 'untitled document 1' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gedit/+bug/796076/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1143538] [NEW] FLAC playback cuts short
Public bug reported: When playing certain files, playback abruptly and prematurely ceases at a position apparently specific to the file. This appears to be an issue with playback of only a small portion of the song; if I use a player capable of seeking and seek to past the point of failure, playback continues normally. I initially noticed this problem with Quot Libet, but can consistently reproduce it in Totem so I'm led to believe it's GStreamer that has the problem, and not the consuming application. Neither of the aforementioned applications present any errors (to stderr, internal error log, or as a popup message) when encountering the issue, and simply continue to the next song in the playlist. Additionally, `flac -t $file` does not report any issues with affected files, and both `flac -dc $file | aplay` and `ffplay $file` correctly play affected files, proving that the issue exists with GStreamer, and not the file itself (or at least, proving that GStreamer behaves in a far less fault-tolerant manner than other options). An example file, available at https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwkONbGn86mBXzRTRDZtZkI0Y0E/edit?usp=sharing, dies about 0:03 in, so you don't have to wait very long to experience it. This bug is a cross-post from the upstream bug #695044, visible at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=695044. The official 0.10 maintainer has confirmed the issue, but wants nothing to do with it, which is unfortunate, given that it affects all applications using 0.10, and given the ABI/API differences between 0.10 and 1.0, its solution is not a simple “recompile the application to use 1.0”. ** Affects: gstreamer0.10 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gstreamer0.10 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1143538 Title: FLAC playback cuts short To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gstreamer0.10/+bug/1143538/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Display: Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset x86/MMX/SSE2. I usually have 3 or 4 tabs open, with unlimited scrolling enabled. It gets slower over time, but it's still about 2 seconds to start the very first tab. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/850649 Title: gnome-terminal extremely slow and display buggy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/850649/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 820462] [NEW] Nautilus doesn't prompt to install Samba when browsing Windows networks, but does for sharing a folder
Public bug reported: If you attempt to share a folder on a network, Nautilus prompts you to install a package (Samba, I think) to make it work. However, when browsing a windows network, it just *doesn't work*. Seeing as Nautilus prompts you to install Samba in the first instance, it should do so during any operation which requires it - instead of simply giving the user the impression that Ubuntu does, in fact, *not* support Windows networks and simply freezes when accessing them. Of course, with Samba installed, Windows networking works like a charm. I just think that to make it intuitive, Nautilus should make it clear that Samba is required whenever it is, not just in one of many possible operation which require it. [Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment
To refuse change because it's different is BAD. To change only because it's different is BAD. Anyway, good decision comes from good rationale (except maybe in casinos). Where's the rationale here ? None is explained. Where's the benefit here ? None is explained. What's the risk ? The risk is to force a change in user's habits without visible reasons. He should not appreciate even if he'll get use to with time. Even if it's far from being a big deal it really looks like a bad decision. I love Ubuntu and its community and thank all the teams (devs, designers, managers ...) providing to the community this wonderful desktop. So after all, the design team may really have a killer idea to use that vacuum on the right. Time will say, but waiting for explanation/rationale on that subject it will be (for me) nothing more than a bad decision. -- [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
Re: [Bug 363583] Re: webcam still powered on after closing cheese
I have now installed Lucid Lynx Alpha 3 and have updated it through Synaptic on March 13th. I can tell you that the bug is still pending in Lucid Lynx and should probably be linked to it. Sorry but I don't know how to do this. Can someone please do it for me? On Sun, Mar 14, 2010 at 5:16 AM, Jeremy Foshee jeremy.fos...@canonical.comwrote: Hi chunchengch, This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux 363583 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.
