I also find this a pain. And very annoying that one can't remove it
without removing huge parts of gnome.
Does anyone know what the status of this is now?
Will this package be included in Jaunty?

Nothing to do with google for me.
I am using plain old gnome calendar, straight out of the box, albeit with an
extra country configured.
For me, it seems it takes forever (5 seconds) to load and show.
But this is only the first one or two times I click it.
Subsequent times it is fast again.
Oh, I didn't notice the date, sorry.

Actually, not only that. It actually even disappears without me doing anymore

For example; If i open Nautilus, and use the 'Extra Pane' option (F3),

Well. To me, the importance of this bug has nothing to do with the normal
user.
The normal user, to me, has already decided to use Ubuntu, and despite the
occasional problem, such as this one, Ubuntu far surpasses the usefulness of
the alternatives, with the exception of maybe macOS.
this is terrible.

Did NOT make any difference for me.
I tried several combinations. And to start with, there was no matching
entry for my vendor or product. I had to add them myself to test this
potential fix. Seems like there are several causes for the same
symptoms, as this has helped some people but not others.
looking forward to this one!! Thanks guys!

From someone who doesn't actually do any coding work on Ubuntu, I don't like
to criticize but ;
In terms of Ubuntu's commitment to providing as good a release as reasonably
possible, this bug in particular is very disappointing. To read the words

As I mentioned, I am not happy to be criticizing. And if there were something I

Surely those like Shuttleworth can't know about this bug? It is a scandal; Him
