[Bug 1898600] [NEW] Noto Color Emoji not consistently used

2020-10-05 Thread tellapu
Public bug reported:

It is great to see that Emojis are shown in Ubuntu 20.04 in most apps. But it
is not consistent which emoji foint is shown. I had to delete other emoji fonts
than the Noto Color Emoji package to have Noto be shown in Wire Messenger and
Evolution.
But with only Noto installed it seems that certain applications still don't
show emojis with Noto.
How could this be fixed?

At the end of this Ask-Ubuntu-answer (https://askubuntu.com/a/1045916/30631)
there was a tip to create a ~/.config/fontconfig/conf.d/01-emoji.conf file and
this helped to get Thunderbird show the Noto emojis in the new email window but
when I look at a sent emails the emojis are only black & white.
Could this tool help: emoji.conf · GitLab —
https://gitlab.com/es20490446e/emoji.conf ?

If I should ask this question somewhere else, thank you in advance for
guiding me!

[Bug 1152226] Re: nautilus no longer remembers view per directory

2019-04-28 Thread tellapu
Any progress on this?
I would really appreciate if this feature can return to Nautilus! And probably
many others, too, 46 people are waiting on this bug report's progress and there
are surely thousands more.
THANKS in advance!

PS: The assigned "gnome-bugs #683802" (https://gitlab.gnome.org/683802) is
empty. There is another bug report on gitlab regarding this
(https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/issues/58) which is closed and linked
to Gnome Bugzilla (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=683802).

[Bug 1152226] Re: nautilus no longer remembers view per directory

2019-01-17 Thread tellapu
I would still love to see something happen here.
Why can this crucial feature not be resurrected? :O
It does not need to be set by default but at least having the option to have
Nautilus remember the view per directory would be great. This is probably the
only reason I don't use Nautilus and I would like to return but cannot because
of this annoying bug.
Thanks for listening and hopefully somebody can have pity on us and work on
this. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1777240] Re: Pop-up window from panel indicator qbirthday too much to the left, not fully visible

2018-06-18 Thread tellapu
Thank you, Daniel, for your helpful comments.

As once every other week, the window opens with one click and mostly
visible (just a bit too much to the right), I thought it is more related
to the gnome-shell or any other component of the system as to the app
itself. The app is always started with the start-up of the computer.

Any other window so far is not displayed outside of the visible screen as far
as I remember.
Yes, I can move the window after pressing Alt+F7 with clicking on it and
dragging it to the center.

Your last question was the best! :) The window is indeed taller than the
screen! I could reduce the list length (reduce the displayed birthdays in the
preferences; why did I not try this before!?) so it would not be taller anymore
and wow! the window is placed within the screen although to the far left but
fully visible! Wonderful, this solves my problem I hope.
But I wonder why the window is not shown when it is taller - this was never a
problem in the past (e.g. Unity) and why there are rare times the window is
shown mostly visible (although to the right). Maybe we will never know but I
hope the reduction of the window height will be a permanent workaround!
Thanks again for your helpful comments and questions!

[Bug 1777240] Re: Pop-up window from panel indicator qbirthday too much to the left, not fully visible

2018-06-17 Thread tellapu
Thank you, Andre, for connecting the dots. Sorry, I did not provide the
reference; I thought it is not relevant as it was dismissed to be a GNOME issue
(https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-panel/issues/2) and the developer could
just confirm that it was working in MATE
(https://github.com/lafrech/qbirthday/issues/14) which I stated in the
description.
Thanks for working on this!

[Bug 1777240] [NEW] Pop-up window from panel indicator qbirthday too much to the left, not fully visible

2018-06-16 Thread tellapu
Public bug reported:

I managed to install the great birthday reminder tool qbirthday
(https://github.com/lafrech/qbirthday, Qt port of GBirthday, a GTK
application) on normal Ubuntu 18.04 (GNOME). It works fine but the
displayed list (pop-up window) is placed to the left side and therefore
not fully visible (it works without flaws with the desktop MATE), see
attached screenshot.

It is interesting that once every other week, the window opens with one
click and mostly visible (just a bit too much to the right).

Thanks for any help and hint in advance.

[Bug 1299512] Re: gnome-keyring-daemon crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message()

2017-08-08 Thread tellapu
Unfortunately the problems is still present in Ubuntu Xenial (16.04 Alpha) -
gnome.keyring 3.18.3-0ubuntu2. This crash happens every time I startup Ubuntu,
but only for a week, I wonder what happened.
Maybe the upgrade to 16.04.03 caused it?

Apart from the error message I have to re-enter the keyring password each time
and the usual workaround to add a blank password does not work as it gets
forgetten.
Does somebody have a workaround?

I really hope somebody can be assigned to this bug or takes care of this bug
which is confirmed, with high importance and waiting for a fix for THREE years!
Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1295670] Re: Nautilus doesn't save items view

2014-12-22 Thread tellapu
@qu9542 Thanks for the comment, I desperately hope for a solution, otherwise I
will have to change to another file browser. Not sure if this works for me as
the default-folder-viewer is already set to list-view, but it does not save
the items view per folder. Does it save the items view (icon or list) in your
nautilus?
On my system it only shows the list view by default, but would not save the
last view per folder. I don't want to have it always in the list view, some
folders, e.g. pictures are nicer to view in the icon view. And when I switch
from a picture folder to another folder in the same tab, I would like to have
the list view for other folders, not the persisting icon view.
But maybe this behaviour happens on your system what would be nice, but I can
not reproduce it.

[Bug 773896] Re: Evolution does not show persistent alarms in Unity

2012-01-15 Thread tellapu
I am also with Ubuntu 11.10, but there is no pop-up window.
It would be good to have a pop-up window (and a possibility to stop it in the
preferences for the people that do not like it.)
An indicator with a drop-down list of all active notification would be great as
well. It would be handy if the notification(s) would be listed there (not
disappear) until some action has been done (e.g. deactivate them by clicking on
the entry).
Indicator-icon should change when there is a notification or should disappear
when there is none.
And surely the importance of this issue/bug should be high.

[Bug 907198] [NEW] rhythmbox hangs, freezes after launch, start, it takes long till ready to play

2011-12-21 Thread tellapu
Public bug reported:

After launching rhythmbox 2.90.1 in Ubuntu 11.10 (AMD64) it would show the
rhythmbox screen, but it freezes for more than 10 minutes, so the loading till
you can play a song takes a long time. The CPU usage goes up sharply and drops
after the freeze is over.
If the database is empty the starting of Ubuntu takes only seconds, but I have
about 5000 titles in the database, so it takes more than 10 minutes. I had no
problem in Ubuntu 10.10 (i386), rhythmbox started quickly and had no problems
with the 5000 songs.

When I start rhythmbox in the terminal with rhythmbox -d, I get the output* I
have attached. I think the hanging/freezing comes from the repetitive similar
line, probably 5000 times :

Not sure why it does this, but perhaps somebody can help. Thanks.
I deactivated all plugins and watch my library for new files.

*I reduced the database to some songs only, so rhythmbox would start
quickly. The list with the above mentioned pattern processing
RHYTHMDB_EVENT_STAT of is short, normally it would go through all 5000
songs!

[Bug 730612] [NEW] Cannot import addressbook and calendar outlook pst file

2011-03-06 Thread tellapu
Hello! Anybody out there?
With a lot of work I could import the outlook addressbook (csv - Windows,
re-organized the column order with OpenOffice) into Evolution, but no success
with the outlook XP calendar! When I select a calendar-pst-file and want to
start the import process, evolution crashes.
PLEASE work on this import function and give a good other solution (some trials
via thunderbird did not work).

Re: [Bug 655405] evolution calendar-, task- and notivication-lists crashes by opening

2011-01-22 Thread tellapu
Hi Raymond!

Thanks a lot for your search and workaround. It helps partially. The
calendar still crashes The Evolution memo has quit unexpectedly./The
Evolution task has quit unexpectedly. when I start evolution and switch
the first time to the calendar and The Evolution CALENDAR has quit
unexpectedly. when I click on the clock-applet in the panel and look at
the calendar there. But I can restart with un-click/click the
personal-calendar in evolution.

I checked the journal.ics, is saved as UTF-8 (Windows). My actual
task.ics could not be opened with gedit, but as I switched the encoding
to ISO-8859-15, it could be opened. Then I saved it as UTF-8 (Windows)
as well. AND it seems to work now without any errors at the moment. We
will see how it is tomorrow ;-).

Why did this encoding problem happen?

By the way, did you save the calendar.ics as UTF-8 with line ending
Unix/Linux or Windows (or Mac OS Classic)? What is the difference
anyway?

Thanks again!

2011-01-20 Thread tellapu
Thanks for the comment again, I am glad that there is moving something.

I tried to find evolution-dbgsym in the package manager, but could not find it
(also in the terminal: E: Version ‘2.22.1-0ubuntu2.8.04.1’ for
‘evolution-dbgsym’ was not found). Even after adding the ddebs.list (according
to the instructions https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash).
Do I have to download and run the list-dbgsym-packages-v2.sh shell script as
well?

What is installed on my computer:
libgtk2.0-0 - was installed
libglib2.0-0 - was installed
pkg-create-dbgsym - newly installed now
evolution-dbg was installed.

Anyway, I ran the backtrace again (according to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace) and attached the new backtrace file.
Perhaps it is useful. Otherwise please instruct me (step-by-step) what
to do, I would love to help as I really desperately wait that the
calendar would work again.

Re: [Bug 655405] evolution calendar-, task- and notivication-lists crashes by opening

2011-01-20 Thread tellapu
Some more information, hopefully it helps to sort out this problem.

I can still look at the calendar although there are no events visible.
If I would un-click the Birthdays and Anniversaires (under Contacts)
and click it on again, it would show me these events.
But if I would go to Personal (under on this computer), I can't see any
of the normal events and if I try to add a new event or un-click/click
Personal, the calendar would crash (although evolution itself would
still run) and the birthdays and anniversaires events would disappear
again:
The Evolution calendar has quit unexpectedly.

I can make the Birthdays and Anniversaires visible again, doing the
steps above.

The Birthdays and Anniversaires would always be seen in the clock
applet (panel) calendar overview and using gbirthday ...

What is going on?

Attached you find the backtrace of the problem within evolution.
Hopefully it is helpful. It would be a real nice Christmas gift if you
could work on this problem. Evolution without calendar is not very
helpful.

2010-12-09 Thread tellapu
Anybody working on the problem to import contacts and calendar? Or do I have to
open a new bug thread?
I don't understand that it worked with previous versions of evolution, although
not perfectly (see bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evolution/+bug/491787 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/491786), but at least
I could import the most important information. I already wait more than 2 years
that this import tool would work properly, some other previous Microsoft user,
too.

This effects me as well. I also upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 (but using
encrypted alternate version).

This is the error message:
The Evolution tasks have quit unexpectedly.
Your tasks will not be available until Evolution is restarted.

I will try to do a backtrace ... Is there not an easier (and quicker)
way? Could that not be integrated in the normal Ubuntu?

[Bug 670747] [NEW] cannot import outlook pst file (addressbook, calendar, email)

2010-11-03 Thread tellapu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Since upgrading Ubuntu from 10.04 (Lucid) to 10.10 (Maverick) the importing of
pst-files (addressbook, calendar, email) does not work anymore: Select import
from File menu - select Import a single file - File type is greyed out when
choosing a pst file and cannot be selected. I tried different pst-files, old
and new ones, from different computers, but it still won't let you go forward.
It works with csv-files, others I haven't tested yet.

2010-10-03 Thread tellapu
Time flies by, but no activity on this bug. Any tips? I would like to finally
move from Windows to Ubuntu and the last piece would be the transfer of the
addresses and the calendar, but it still doesn't work with the special
character and Umlauts.
Interestingly the import of the outlook csv-file into Evolution (2.28.3) has
not problems with the special characters and Umlaut, but there are other issues
(e.g. not matching of a lot fields), so I prefer the import of the pst-file.

Yes, bug 491786 is a different problem: The umlauts and special

?-character, e.g. schön -- sch?n, Baños -- Ba?os.

2010-01-19 Thread tellapu
Dear Pedro,

Thanks for looking into this.
Which file would you open with gedit? I don't import the vcf-card I attached
here. I import the addressbook/calender from a pst-file. I can't open the
original pst-file or the evolution addressbook.db with gedit.
And even if I can open it, it would be a tremendous work to change hundreds or
thousands of special character as all the characters are replaced by only one
character (find and replace won't work).

And again: Which file do you mean with that's a problem with the file
itself? If I import the addresses in Windows XP with thunderbird I
don't have a special character problem, but unfortunately other problems
:-).

Any explanation is very welcome!

even this one I could report once before, but at the moment evolution
only crashes immediately WITHOUT apport window opening.

I have a Ubuntu 09.10 with Gnome desktop environment, but there is NO
file in the /var/crash directory. I checked it on several days (my
system is up-to-date ...) after letting evolution crashing before.

Please tell me how I can be of more help to solve this problem, because
it is really annoying one for me.

[Bug 491786] Re: Umlaut/Special caracters not imported - .pst-file import (calender, contacts) from outlook XP (German) to Evolution 2.26

2009-12-06 Thread tellapu
Attached is the same vcard transfered to a Windows XP computer and opened with
Outlook XP.
I would really appreciate any help. If it would be an encoding problem, what
can I do to fix this?
May somebody switch the importance to high as it probably affects a lot of
people. THANKS.

[Bug 491786] [NEW] Umlaut/Special caracters not imported - .pst-file import (calender, contacts) from outlook XP (German) to Evolution 2.26

2009-12-03 Thread tellapu
Public bug reported:

I was delighted to see the pst-import implemented in the newest
evolution release (2.28.1 with Ubuntu 09.10 Karmic Koala.

1. Unfortunately the umlauts and special characters were not imported
(addresses, notes, calender items), but replaced by a ?-character. Is
there any solution for that?

It happens often when I stop a process in Evolution 2.28.1, e.g.
fetching summary of a IMAP folder.
