I have installed dapper on a former windows xp user's computer and seen
her click it several times thinking it was the Close Window button. I
think the proposal is nice but also agree that a power icon might be
misleading.

Nope. This still gives the same Cannot
Removing sdb1 from /etc/fstab solved the problem here too.
I also installed from a usb-drive, so that pretty much explains the cause.
