I can see the layout name and click on it to switch. It's to the right
of the password text box.

[Bug 544692] [NEW] Sleep button action does the wrong thing

2010-03-22 Thread Adam Lindberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

The sleep button action is set to Sleep, but when pressed the computer
hibernates. Expected the computer to actually go to sleep. If sleep is
chosen from the power menu on the top right corner of the screen, the
computer goes to sleep correctly.

I'm running Ubuntu on a Dell XPS M1330.

[Bug 478178] Re: Empathy is almost impossible to set as a startup application

2010-03-16 Thread Adam Lindberg
@Vish

Maybe something could be in Startup Programs to automatically give a
list of programs that are in the applications menu? That would probably
solve 95% of users problems trying to find common programs.

What they are referring is that you have to open Startup Applications -
Startup Programs and drag Empathy from the Applications menu to the
program list.

[Bug 539399] [NEW] Impossible to restore Empathy config for human beings

2010-03-16 Thread Adam Lindberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

I just installed Lucid Alpha 3 and I backup up my home directory. Now
I'm trying to restore the configuration for Empathy (version
2.29.92-0ubuntu2), but cannot find the proper config directories to copy
back to my new home folder. These are the ones I've tried:

~/.mission-control
~/.gconf/apps/empathy
~/.gconf/apps/telepathy
~/.local/share/Empathy
~/.config/Empathy

That is 5 different directories!

None of them works! I even tried restarting my computer to no avail
(someone said you have to do that with .mission-control, how stupid is
that?).

It's impossible to produce a gdb backtrace since the instructions does
not work with giving command line arguments to the program.

[Bug 330182] [NEW] Image viewer does not start

2009-02-16 Thread Adam Lindberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

When launching Eye of Gnome with a single image as argument (either on
console or by double clicking an image) it doesn't start at all. It just
freezes after the command and no window is shown.

Typing just 'eog' works, as does 'eog *'.

Attaching an ltrace (which indicates 'killed by SIGTRAP' although
starting normally doesn't kill the program).

I have tested both *.jpg files and *.png files.

[Bug 257927] [NEW] Cancelling timezone change with two locations in clock applet sends keyboard enter

2008-08-14 Thread Adam Lindberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Steps to reproduce in Ubuntu 8.04.1 with GNOME Panel
1:2.22.2-0ubuntu1.1:

1. Make sure you have to locations configured in the GNOME Panel clock applet.
2. Start the Text Editor (Gedit) and give it focus.
3. Click the clock applet to open the calendar and location view.
4. Hover the location not currently set and push the Set... button that
appears.
5. The applet asks you for your password, click cancel.
6. Note how an keyboard newline was sent to Gedit.

This is reproducable with Emacs, the Firefox location bar and forms, and
my guess is that it is reproducable with any program that accepts an
enter keypress.

Expected to happen: Nothing!

[Bug 204202] [NEW] Ctrl+Z in Terminal doesn't work with dvorak layout

2008-03-20 Thread Adam Lindberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

In Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon), Gnome Terminal (2.18.2-0ubuntu1) doesn't
respect the Dvorak keyboard layout correctly. When pressing Ctrl+Z to
suspend a process the text size is instead decreased. Ctrl+Z on Dvorak
is on top of the '-' key on Qwerty so I assume that it is somehow
interpreted on the key code level.

Operation: Pressing Ctrl+Z in the terminal window
Expected behavior: The currently running program is suspended
Current behaviour: Text size is decreased

Note that the text size can be decreased by Pressing Ctrl+- on the Dvorak
layout (the correct behavior for this command).
Note also that the same is valid for Ctrl+'+', i.e. pressing the physical key
of Qwerty plus is interpreted as plus but it should use the Dvorak layout
equivalent key.

[Bug 49354] Dragging files from an archive does not work if the user is to fast

2006-06-11 Thread Adam Lindberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

When opening an archive with File Roller and dragging files out of it
to, for example, the desktop does not work the first time if the user is
too fast.

If you drag the files over the desktop without dropping them, you see a
progress bar in File Roller showing the extraction progress. Dropping
the files before the background extraction is complete results in
nothing happening. If you drag the files a second time File Roller
starts extracting them _after_ they have been dropped, compared to the
first time when it extracts them during dragging (and stops abrubtly
when the user drops them prematurely, which is the bug).

Proposal:
* Make File Roller continue the extraction process initiated in the first drag
when the files are dropped. Alternatively use the behaviour from the second
drag, where files are extracted after the drop.

[Bug 49348] List view in Nautilus does not allow dragging a selection by mouse

2006-06-11 Thread Adam Lindberg
Public bug reported:

When viewing files in Nautilus one can drag a rectangle around them to
mark certain files. This is not possible in the list view of Nautilus
even though there is usually a large white space in folders with few
files that can make a user believe that dragging with the mouse there
would produce the same rectangle as in icon view. I do it all the time
by habit, and it is very annoying.

Proposal:
* Make it possible to drag a rectangle in list view. The problem is that
starting to drag on a list item moves that item. Konqueror has solved this that
you have to drag on the item name itself to move, else a rectangle marquee is
started. Personally I find this quite efficient but may be annoying for less
experienced users...

[Bug 49222] Screensaver password dialog does not indicate keyboard layout

2006-06-10 Thread Adam Lindberg
Public bug reported:

The screensaver password dialog, that is produced whenever you want to
resume your work after a screensaver (or hibernate etc), does not
indicate which keyboard layout is active. As I use several ones at the
same time, I find it hard to know which layout is supposed to be active
in GDM, and often I don't even remember which one I used last. There is
no way of finding out the layout as the only thing showing is black dots
in the input field.

This bug have made me loose work due to that I cannot enter my
password at times, even though I thought I correctly guessed different
layouts. I do run two different types of Dvorak on my Qwerty keyboard,
so it is not easy to guess.

Proposal:
* At least a keyboard indicator and switcher as can be seen in Gnome Panel
should be present in the password dialog.
* Possibly also a field where one can test a layout (but not in the dialog
itself, perhaps as a button) to see if it is the one expected.

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'gdm2';
however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.
