[Bug 1769383] Re: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen

2019-01-26 Thread Ahmad Amr
I have just enabled proposed and upgraded to gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock
(63ubuntu1.18.10.2).
The issue seems to be solved, but I believe it will need more time for testing.

I cannot believe such a high-severity bug has been around since early
May, 2018, on both 18.04 LTS and 18.10. Shame on you Canonical!!

[Bug 1322925] Re: Copy, paste stops working randomly in Ubuntu 14.04 nautilus

2015-01-08 Thread Ahmad Syukri Abdollah
circum, nemo is probably affected in a different manner. This bug is
specific to nautilus in the way it occurs, and the patch only fixes the
core program. (The library isn't affected, but nemo doesn't use it
anyway.)

If the package is from Ubuntu's repository, please create a bug report here
instead:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nemo
(but version 2.0.8 seems to be from PPA)

[Bug 1322925] Re: Copy, paste stops working randomly in Ubuntu 14.04 nautilus

2015-01-07 Thread Ahmad Syukri Abdollah
Thanks to Alexander's comment on
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/988251/comments/29,
I was able to work out steps to reproduce the bug.

1. Open a Nautilus window.
2. Go to location with write permission
3. Select a file and try to rename.
4. When prompted to rename (filename becomes a text entry), open new tab.
5. Select a file, try to copy and paste. You will see that file is not copied
and pasted.
6. Go back to original tab. If the file that was selected in step 3 is still
selected, unselect it.
7. Try to copy and paste. It should work.
8. Try to rename again, and open new tab.
9. Close old tab, and try to copy and paste. It won't work, and there is no way
to restore, except opening a new window.

[Bug 1322925] Re: copy paste not working in Ubuntu 14.04 nautilus

2014-08-05 Thread Ahmad Syukri Abdollah
This bug is similar to #988251 except that the older one claims that the
options (copy, paste) are greyed out, whilst in our case, it is not, but
it gives no effect when you click it.

I can confirm that:
(1) Shortcut keys (Ctrl-C, Ctrl-X, Ctrl-V) do not work within the same tab, nor
between tabs of the same window.
(2) Context menu items do not work (Right clickCopy/Cut/Paste), same as (1)
(3) In new windows (FileNew Window or Ctrl-N), the above (1) and (2) work.
(4) You can copy files on a new window but cannot paste on bug-affected window.

This has been the case since at least Ubuntu 12.04

For now, I'm working around it by copying the path of affected window
(Ctrl-L, Ctrl-C) and creating new window to go to the place (Ctrl-N,
Ctrl-L, Ctrl-V, Return), but it gets painful when there are lots of
tabs.

I've yet to find how to reproduce it.

create a new file with name gnome-power-statistics having following
code

#!/bin/bash

if [ $(pidof power-statistics) ]
then
  kill `pidof power-statistics`
fi
power-statistics
exit

and copy it to /usr/bin
allow it execution
and change owner to root

I m new to bash coding if any good suggestion i appreciate.

I'm glad it's fixed, but still the problem is that this was marked as a
low-priority bug that has been there for more than 4 years, who decides
the importance of a bug? I guess if we need Ubuntu to be used by

the end user experience, I guess all people here agree with me on this,

[Bug 146206] Re: files are copied to a local directory before being extracted

2010-01-28 Thread Ahmad Syukri
The problem with bzip2 is that it has no information to its uncompressed
size, unlike gzip. Assuming a scenario where destination may not have
enough disk space left, if one wants to copy the content to the
destination, here are the possible solutions:

1: (current implementation) Make a copy of the archive, decompress it, then try
to copy it to destination, using cp. If it doesn't have enough space, cp will
fail and return insufficient space error.
2: uncompress it directly to destination with bzcat2 (or bzip2 -d -f -c). It
will uncompress until destination is full, at which point it fails and return
insufficient space error. Delete the partially copied file.

Both solutions are not pretty, but from my experience solution 1 is
better than solution 2. This is because, if you stuff up the destination
drive during the extraction, you might cause disruption to other
activity on the disk that might have succeeded if you didn't fill it up
in the first place.

Of course, if it's going to be unpacked to the same drive, it's kind of
silly to copy the uncompressed temp file instead of moving it.
Otherwise, file-roller works as intended.

2009-12-17 Thread Ahmad Amr
Guys, any updates about when this problem is getting solved? If the
assigned developer is stupid, doesn't have the required skills to solve
it or is lazy enough not to solve it, I guess this needs to be escalated
to canonical so that a smarter, more skilled or more active developer
can work on it to get it solved as soon as possible as it highly affects
user experience especially to new users moving from Windows.

@David: I'm well-behaved David, thanks for your advice, but I said that

@Dmitry: I never claimed that I'm a skilled Linux developer, you don't
have the right to tell me to Shut up, I'm sure even Microsoft -
although I'm a Linux user - listens to people higher than your level and
that's what made them gain the highest profits, what I'm doing is called
Marketing - if you know what that means - and I'm doing my best to
promote Ubuntu and gather as much supporters as I can because I believe
it's a much better product than MS Windows, but just lacks proper
marketing.

I think this link is useful to you:

hopefully before the next LTS release.

This is a very stupid bug the highly affects the user experience,
especially those moving from Windows to Linux. If - for any reason - a
developer thinks this bug - that has been here for more than 3 years -
is minor or not worth investigation, then he/she is stupid as well, else
if he/she can't solve it, I guess someone has to help that developer or
it has to be solved by another one.

[Bug 366824] [NEW] HTML email backgrounds can't be disabled, slow down emails and gets flagged as spam

2009-04-25 Thread Ahmad Nassri
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

it seems HTML emails in Evolution always have a background property on
the body tag in the HTML source...

ex: BACKGROUND=file:///home/USER

where USER = your username ...

if you manually specify a background in the page properties, it seems to
work fine, but by default there is no background specified, even if you
manually set the option to none it still includes that property.

this causes problems on my work email system (running evolution) it
slows down email loading when people try to open my emails and in most
cases it gets flagged as junk.

[Bug 272785] Re: Default action for plain-text-document file type should be opening in gedit, not in web browser

2008-09-21 Thread Ahmad Tarek
In Ubuntu 8.04.1 it opens directly with gedit not Firefox.

Can you please tell me what version of Ubuntu you are seeing this.

[Bug 199496] Re: Tomboy.exe crashed with SIGSEGV in exit()

2008-03-19 Thread Nik Ahmad Faris
I can confirm this. Easily replicated by launching Tomboy on Hardy, and
then select Quit from the tray menu.

But if you launch it again, it wont happen anymore. It will reoccur
after a system restart.

[Bug 190124] Re: Couldn't display obex://fa:ce:fe:ed:be:ef].

2008-02-18 Thread Nik Ahmad Faris
Okay here is an update.

It seems that I can connect to my phone (SE w810i) again (after
switching off the phone and switching it back on); but I cannot leave
the connection idle or I will end up with the same error message.

So, its like I have to do my browsing as fast as possible or I am going
to lose my connection and forced to restart my phone again.

I really am not sure where the problem is coming from.
