This might sound stupid and out of topic, but this bug was the last straw for
me to migrate from Ubuntu to MacOSX.
I survived Unity migration, but not this tiny bug.

You are right: I checked preferred applications and Firefox was not
there for web urls. After setting firefox there, all the urls work fine
from terminal.
