1) I'm using Ubuntu 8.04.1 amd64 and I had not any problems up to ubuntu 7.10
2) Totem is in version 2.22.1-0ubuntu2
Totem doesn't load subtitles.
Example: open lowercase.avi in the same folder lowercase.srt totem won't see
any subtitles. I

That's what I found in .xsession-errors:

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: totem
totem seeks for already installed codecs when I play video files (it only plays
ogg files now) without finding them.
As a result it won't play any other video file (eg avi encoded with xvid). No
problem at all with audio files (in any format).
