[Bug 1969602] Re: gnome-shell with focus-mode=mouse behaves wrongly when alt-tabbing
This was fixed in Ubuntu 23.04, but then broke again with 23.10. The workaround that worked for me in 22.04 was to install https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/4673/alt-tab-move-mouse/, but that's not available for GNOME 45. I've been using 22.04 (fresh install) since June and today after a routine update this "bug" popped up. This is in a system that has a yubikey 4 permanently plugged in. [Bug 1876632] Re: [nvidia] Corrupted/missing shell textures when switching users or resuming from suspend
@Sebastian adding both the kernel parameter and the two lines in the nvidia module conf file works for "systemctl suspend" - the machine can now resume OK when on wayland. [Bug 1631560] [NEW] Narrow spacing of icons in Files affects file names
Public bug reported: When I upgraded to Ubuntu 16.10 beta a few days ago, horizontal distance between icons in Files and on the desktop got much smaller. Because of this there's less room horizontally for the file names, and many words got their last letters cut off to the next row. [Bug 841315] [NEW] on thinkpad-acpi devices, brightness setting ommits most steps
Public bug reported: Brightness changes in very rough steps on some Machines, but only when there is the gpm-OSD appearing showing the brightness setting. So the bug appears not when the session showed is locked, but in an active session or on the login screen the bug appears. On my machine (thinkpad X60) brightness changes with two steps between min and max - these steps are different depending on wether you go up or down hough. So you can hit 6 settings. [Bug 334125] Re: Search not showing hidden files
I just spent quite a lot of time searching for my .evolution folder (it has changed place in Ubuntu 11.04) with Nautilus search. I searched for nautilus, .nautilus, mail, mbox etc. until I moved to Google, wondering where else the .evolution folder could be than in my home floder. A half an hour later I found out that Nautilus search can't see hidden files. Then I read that the bug has been open for over four years. Aaaarghhh. Later I remembered that I have faced this bug before, but I had forgotten it. I wonder if I'm going to forget it again, and after a few years desperately searching for some hidden file that I know should be there... [Bug 365140] Re: Evolution displays folder as unread even though all mail in it is read
I'm experiencing this all the time now. When I move a read message from my inbox to another folder, this other folder begins to show one unread message. When I open the folder, all the messages are shown as read (the subject lines are not shown with bold font). When I do mark as read, nothing changes, but when I first mark the message as unread and then read, then the folder stops showing unread messages. I just noticed, that the problem doesn't affect every message, but I don't know yet what makes some messages affected and some not. I'll try to figure that out I have faced this problem a few times during the recent years with Evolution, but for the couple of last days it's been happening more than on those previous times. [Bug 662869] [NEW] Evolution starts as if it was the first time (with settings wizard)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution When I start Evolution, it behaves as if it was the first time, and presents the settings wizard, although I've been using the program for a long time now. When I start Evolution from the command line, the message EI: MAIL PREFS is shown. Update: When I started a new Ubuntu session, and changed the language from Finnish to English, the command line showed the following, more verbose message: ** (evolution:2545): CRITICAL **: categories_icon_theme_hack: assertion `filename != NULL *filename != '\0'' failed EI: MAIL PREFS I can't tell if there's anything missing from the .evolution folder, but at least my messages seem to be there, and also the config folder with a bunch of configuration files. I'm using Ubuntu version 10.10 (64-bit), to which I upgraded from 10.04 about a week before the problem came up. Evolution version number is 2.30.3-1ubuntu7. File system check says everything's OK. Somewhere around when this happened I temporarily run out of disk space, but took care of that almost immediately. I'm not sure about timing, so there may have been plenty of time between these two incidents. Bug #327503 has similar symptoms, but probably different origin. ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: wizard -- Evolution starts as if it was the first time (with settings wizard) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/662869 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 582903] Re: nautilus search doesn't work as described in help
Yes, I can confirm what Pedro says, but I'm not quite happy. You see, after installing Tracker I now get often hundreds of search results for a simple search in Nautilus, when I for example search for a single file using some character string on it's name. I may know that there's only one file with that specific string in it's name, but unfortunately the string often exists inside quite a many of the tens of thousands of documents in my home folder. The apparent reason for this bahaviour is that after installing Tracker Nautilus is using it for searching. There seems to be no way in Nautilus to change how the search is done. You can tell Tracker not to index contents of the files at all, but you can't choose to search for file contents only when you need to. Although not high priority, the error in the Nautilus help shouldn't be difficult to fix. -- nautilus search doesn't work as described in help https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/582903 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 137527] Re: Totem should notify users about installing libdvdread3 and libdvdcss2 to read encrypted DVD
I have to say I'm astonished that in 9.10, the eleventh version of Ubuntu, when a user tries to play a movie DVD, he's greeted with Error occured, unable to read from the resource, instead of at least being given a pointer to the right help page. (The wrong help page would be the Totem movie player manual, which is the first result you get (in Karmic) when you search with the word dvd in the Help). The right result, Music, videos and photos, comes up seventh). I appreciate the difficulty to create a seamless user experience with media and codecs (on which a lot of great work has been done already), but at least we should lead the user forward to the next step. The further goal should be for example to let the user click a couple of OKs, be warned of possible legal aspects with understandable language and have the necessary codecs and other packages installed automatically. -- Totem should notify users about installing libdvdread3 and libdvdcss2 to read encrypted DVD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137527 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 212946] [NEW] Mouse wheel zoom in/out not working
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gthumb gThumb 2.10.x reportedly restored the zoom in/out behaviour controlled by the mouse wheel. Ubuntu Hardy version of it (as of today) still implements the old annoying mouse wheel behaviour (Next/Previous picture controlled by the wheel) that was changed in 2.10 due to massive user complaints. This is a request for the ubuntu gthumb package to do zoom in/out by default, as intended by the application devs. Below are the release notes for gthumb 2.10 where the new behavior is stated (the highlighting is mine) ___ Version 2.10 is now available at: http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/gthumb/2.10/ * gthumb-2.10.8.tar.gz * gthumb-2.10.8.tar.bz2 This is a major new release, with new features not available in the 2.8 series. The following is the list of the major new features of the 2.10 series: * Added support for displaying remote locations. * Added red-eye removal tool. * Added a filter bar, to limit displayed images. * Added thumbnailing and player-launching for videos and audio files. * Added programmable hotkeys. * Added the ability to manually specify photo print sizes. * Added a zoom-to-width mode. * Added sort by comment and sort by Exif DateTime tag. * Adds support for multiple auto-detected cameras, or multiple modes for single cameras. * Enhancements to the crop dialog: added undo/redo support; allow to crop multiple times without exiting the dialog; allow to switch on/off the selection mask; / zoom in/out with mouse wheel; zoom keeping the center of the image visible. * Allows file extension to be changed when bulk-renaming. * Added reset Exif orientation tag tool. * New re-size options in web exporter to allow equal landscape and portrait image sizes. For a detailed list of the new features and bugfixes see here. Thanks to all contributors: * Michael J. [Bug 206097] [NEW] [Hardy] System freeze during shutdown with an empty screen with gnome's background image
Public bug reported: Hardy Beta clean install. System freezes during shutdown, after closing all applications and the panel, it leaves me with an empty screen with gnome's background image and stays there forever. If I kill X (ctrl-alt-backspace) then shutdown proceeds and terminates. Also if I shutdown from a console (ctrl-alt-f2, shutdown -h now) it works. The problem is reproducible 100% of the time. It has been happening since my initial Beta install, and the daily updates have not fixed it. This is with Hardy _AMD64, NVIDIA 8600 with nvidia-glx-new and compiz, setup using Desktop effects with no extra tweakings. Not really sure if this is a gnome problem or an X problem. ** Affects: meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Hardy] System freeze during shutdown with an empty screen with gnome's background image https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/206097 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to meta-gnome2 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 41704] Re: wildcards should work with the search feature
it appears the same issue is the cause of the following weirdness: an *mp3 search string works fine in Places Search for Files, but it doesn't work at all in the integrated nautilus search. Quite confusing for people coming from Windows (and for me as well! :) -- wildcards should work with the search feature https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/41704 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 204826] Re: Hardy - After rIght click on folders and opening with application, the selected app is not remembered
Just confirmed: the problem is specific to the Folder type. Regular files do not have this problem. I think the difference haso do with the fact that folders always at least one Open With action (if you right click on a folder Properties Open With, you can see it, it's Open Folder) and this default action does not change, double clicking in a folder always opens the folder. -- Hardy - After rIght click on folders and opening with application, the selected app is not remembered https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204826 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
