[Bug 796076] Re: When run as root [gksudo gedit whatever] gedit tries to open a 2nd 'untitled document 1'

By the way:
That doesn't happen in Arch, so it seems to be an Ubuntu Issue, not a Gnome
issue.

Same here. In fact, I only need to open Evolution to add other Google-
Sub-Calendars, so they are displayed in my Gnome-Shell-Panel. So if
someone knows a workaround for adding other Google-Sub-Calendars
without using evolution, I would be happy about that.

[Bug 1049028] Re: Unable to create gmail account

(evolution-alarm-notify:2263): Gdk-WARNING **: evolution-alarm-notify: Fatal IO

Verbindung ist geschlossen = connection is closed
Die Ressource ist zur Zeit nicht verfügbar = the resource is not available
right now
(I wish there still was a language selection in LightDM or GDM... :-( )

Thanks for informing about the possibility to uncheck the two checkboxes. I
tried to add the calender manually (I want the calender in the Gnome-Shell
top-panel!), evolution is showing that google calendar is opened in the
statusbar, but this statusbar-status never changes.
I did $ grep evolution ~/.xsession-errors in that state, after trying to add
the calendar manually.

[Bug 1049028] Re: Unable to create gmail account

2012-10-01 Thread Bazon
It is possible to integrate Google Calendar and Contacts anyway:

For the calendar, add an on the web calendar and enter the ical-adress
of your Google calendar. If you have dates with e-mail-notification, you
get an endless series of warning popups saying evolution calendar
doesn't support e-mail notifications for dates, so you have to kill it
and the process evolution-calendar-factory.

Google contacts can be integrated the normal way, so I suppose it's
really about Google calendar here.

[Bug 1040436] [NEW] Privacy Tab: Items in blacklisted Ubuntu One picture upload folder appear although blacklisted

2012-08-23 Thread Bazon
Public bug reported:

This is about gnome-control-center activity-log-manager.
I file it here in gnome-control-center and not in activity-log-manager because
I didn't have the activity-log-manager standalone package installed.

What happens:
I have the Ubuntu One App for Android which automatically uploads my photos to
the default folder for that, ~/Pictures - GT-I9100 (for my device.)
As I don't want to appear that photos via zeitgeist, I blacklisted that folder
in gnome-control-center activity-log-manager. Anyway, uploaded photos appear
via zeitgeist, even before I opened them! the files being uploaded there is
enough. (e.g. viewable via gnome-activity-journal or just in the dash.)
Other blacklisted folders work as they should.

What should happen:
Also for Ubuntu One uploads to a folder like ~/Pictures - GT-I9100 blacklisting
in the privacy tab should work.

[Bug 1037167] [NEW] Rhythmbox DAAP Server doesn't work with iTunes 9.2.1 for PPC as client

2012-08-15 Thread Bazon
Public bug reported:

Using Rhythmbox 2.96 as a DAAP server with iTunes 9.2.1 for PPC (on OSX 10.4)
doesn't work:
The share-name is shown in iTunes, but selecting it doesn't establish a
connection: no mount symbol, no display of shared song.
(using rhythmbox as a client works.)

It can't at least be only an iTunes problem, as Tangerine as a Server +
the exact same iTunes as a client works without any problems.

(And this particular version of iTunes is important, as it is the most
reason version for the Power PC (PPC) architecture on OSX 10.4.)

[Bug 965921] Re: gnome-shell most keyboard shortcuts not working

2012-03-31 Thread Bazon
Yes, there are two workarounds:

1. If you know the matching command line, just make your own shortcut with the
keyboard shortcut GUI. I made that for CTRL-Alt-T and gnome-terminal.
2. If you don't know the matching command line (e.g. for show activities),
you can use dconf-editor to set keybindings in org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings.

I only got one problem with that: what's the name in dconf for the right
super key? (one of my keyboards doesn't have a left super key.)

[Bug 23810] Re: Evolution is unusable in 1024x768

2011-06-03 Thread Bazon
This one is nasty. I mean, Evolution is the DEFAULT mail client in

normal user does on a fresh system - configuring the mail client - is
going horribly wrong.

so +1 for raising the importance to high.
i mean, 5 years, 26 duplicates... ...what else should happen to fix it in the
end?

on the bottom is not visible. One only can access it by hitting Tab blind.
Trying to maximize that window is also no working solution, as the window then
jumps on click so that each click goes to the void.

This is especially bad, as evolution is ubuntus default e-mail
application. configuring it is one of the first steps for a new user, it
would be good, if frustration would be avoided then.

(this happened at least with german language settings)

2011-05-05 Thread Bazon
Public bug reported:

Hello,
I am trying to add my GMail address book with all its contacts to Evolution.
All I get is this Error-Message:

[Bug 777953] Re: Google Contacts don't work in Evolution: Cannot authenticate user: Invalid query

2011-05-05 Thread Bazon
It's different from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution-data-server/+bug/755043 ,
because I have only about 200 contacts and I don't get a single one.
Also, the Error message is not timeout, but Cannot authenticate user:
Invalid query

[Bug 287444] Re: audio problem after resume from standby

2008-11-07 Thread Bazon
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 202089 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/202089

At least for me, it's not a duplicate:
In the other report, a error message when using aplay is indicated in the
initial post.
For me, aplay works without error message, but I just don't hear anything!
Killing a puseaudio process isn't possible either, as there is no running
pulseaudio process. (whyever, I didn't change the default settings regarding
that.)
As reported, the thing to make is work as
sudo alsa force-reload

If there s something addition how I can submit informations, let me
know.

[Bug 287444] Re: audio problem after resume from standby

2008-11-07 Thread Bazon
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 202089 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/202089

regarding: In your case, make sure nothing is accessing the sound card
this even happens when all programs are closed.

regarding: In the first place, how come you don't have pulseaudio running? Did
you
remove it?
No, I didn't remove it (fresh 8.10 install from DVD), but I found out why it
wasn't running (as I restarted my system):
sudo alsa force-reload
also kills the pulseaudio process on my computer.
But however,
killall pulseaudio
doesn't restore my sound (as reported in the other bug), only sudo alsa
force-reload does.

(to make it totally clear what I did:
restart my system
ps -A | grep pulseaudio
(response: 5440 ?00:00:00 pulseaudio)
suspend
resume
try to play a sound using different methods
(response: I heard nothing, aplay question.wav answered without error:
Wiedergabe Wave 'question.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Samplingrate:
44100 Hz, Mono
killall pulseaudio (to check whether that restores sound)
ps -A | grep pulseaudio
(response: none, so it was actually killed)
try to play a sound using different methods
(response: I heard nothing again)
sudo alsa force-reload
(response: long standard output, no errors...)
try to play a sound
(response: works again)
(restart pulseaudio to test whether alsa force-relaod kills it:)
pulseaudio

(test whether pulseaudio runs now:
ps -A | grep pulseaudio
(response: 6616 pts/000:00:00 pulseaudio, so it runs)
sudo alsa force-reload
ps -A | grep pulseaudio
(response: [1]+ Exit 1 pulseaudio)
ps -A | grep pulseaudio
(response: none, so it was killed by alsa force-reload.)

[Bug 43002] Message Window: Program Failure discovered when copying bookmarks in Nautilus

2006-10-16 Thread Bazon
Public bug reported:

In Dapper, the following message occured when I tried to copy two files

not running while doing this) with nautilus (which worked):

[Bug 47842] Deleting many files in opened folder takes very long time

2006-06-01 Thread Bazon
Public bug reported:

steps to reproduce:

1. Be sure you have a delete option in your nautilus contextmenu (see
behaviour in nautilus options)

2. Use Nautilus to navigate to a directory with many files you can
delete, e.g. ~/.thumbnails/normal (For me, that folder included about
1 files)

3. Select all files (e.g. with CRTL+A) and choose delete from the
contextmenu.

what happens:
Deleting these files takes ages (for me: 1 files in prospected 11 hours)
and CPU load is maximum.

Probably because nautilus sorts all files after each one delted.

When I closed that nautilus window, deleting was a question of seconds.

what should happen:
Deleting many files should be fast and shouldn't stress the CPU.

[Bug 36321] Re: Incomplete logout options with XGL

2006-05-19 Thread Bazon
This happens to me, too, and I'd like to add how XGL is started exactly to make
it better reproduceable:
A new xsession is created:
/usr/share/xsessions/xgl.desktop

containing:

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=XGl
Exec=/usr/bin/startxgl.sh
Icon=
Type=Application

where /usr/bin/startxgl.sh is the script which actually starts xgl and
looks in a minimal case (not starting compiz withit) like this:

#!/bin/bash

Xgl -fullscreen :1 -ac -accel glx:pbuffer -accel xv:fbo sleep 2
DISPLAY=:1 gnome-session

This is a popular method to start XGL, as it leaves you the option to
start a normal Xorg Session from GDM.

It is reported e.g.:

http://compiz.net/viewtopic.php?pid=3645#p3645

[Bug 45577] gnome-sound-properties: No easy way to control volume of system sounds

2006-05-19 Thread Bazon
Public bug reported:

There is no easy way to control the volume of system-event- sound
relativ to other sounds.

This is annoying, as system-sounds-are mostly much louder than sound from other
applications like media-players, unless you turned all their volumes to 100%,
but even in this case, system-sounds are nearly always markable louder.
(And having all applications volume set to 100% is a loose of function, you
can't control the volume of a single application then)

So I propose to include a volume control in gnome-sound-properties for
the sound-events.

In the simplest case one for all, or even better one control for each
event.

[Bug 45449] Apply button not visible in default window size in german translation

2006-05-18 Thread Bazon
Public bug reported:

At the default window size, the apply button is not visible, at least
not in the german translation. (apply is Anwenden in this case...).

You have to increase the horizontal window size to see it.

That's relativly annoying for first time users. I search for a
possibility to apply for severall minutes...

[Bug 39484] Re: cups smb printing backend no longer works

2006-05-13 Thread Bazon
My opinion:
If there isn't another patch by Adam soon, the fix from linux2go should be
added to the official repos as soon as possible:

1. The patch worked for me on different computers. So it is an
improvement.

2. This bug is nasty as it disables a basic function. Such things
shouldn't be in the rock stable dapper release IMHO.

3. Even if it doesn't fix the problem in all cases, that's even more a
reason to include it in the repos: The fix should be tested on a even
more broad base before including it in the official release and it is
not much time for that left!

4. When there appear unsolved issues, they should be filed as another
second bug, I agree.

But I really would like Dapper to be released without this bug fixed
