[Bug 1985089] [NEW] Resizing two edge tiled windows is laggy

2022-08-11 Thread Bruno Nova
Public bug reported:

Just to report an issue that other people have reported to GNOME and in
Reddit, that seems to also affect Ubuntu 22.04.

If you snap 2 windows side-by-side in Wayland and then try to resize
them, it's very slow and uses a lot of memory.

[Bug 1592382] Re: Updates are notified even when they are installed automatically

"gnome-software (3.20.1+git20160617.1.0440874.ubuntu-xenial-0ubuntu1~16.04.1)"
"Backport to 16.04, with the world's longest version number"

I didn't expect changelogs to be this funny.
I laughed for a few minutes... Thanks guys!

[Bug 1572348] Re: Every other opening of nautilus on empty workspace has no 'nib' in launcher icon

2016-06-16 Thread Bruno Nova
I have similar problems.

Sometimes, when I open Nautilus, the "nib" is not displayed and the
window is not present in Alt-Tab.

Also, sometimes the Launcher indicates that my Windows partition is open
in another workspace, even though it isn't.

[Bug 1576428] [NEW] The symlink arrow emblem is not displayed in all symlinks

2016-04-28 Thread Bruno Nova
Public bug reported:

That small black curved arrow emblem that is shown in symlinks is not
being displayed for all symlinks in 16.04.

Reproducing the bug may need a bit of trial and error.

To reproduce, create symlinks from some of the files in /usr/bin (or some other
folder) into the home folder.
For example, symlinks to "apt" and "apt-cdrom" don't display the arrow emblem.

[Bug 1576413] [NEW] Unmaximizing the terminal doesn't restore it to its previous size

[Bug 1575104] Re: SRU including some fixes/improvements/enabling snap backend

2016-04-28 Thread Bruno Nova
I just updated gnome-software (and related packages) to version
3.20.1+git20160426.1.a976144-ubuntu-xenial-0ubuntu1.

I can now find some snaps in gnome-software and install and remove them.
I can also see installed snaps in the "Installed" tab.

No admin authentication is requested (I am in "sudo" group, didn't try
with non-sudo user), but "snap install" in the terminal requires sudo.

Ubuntu One account login is requested, but why is this needed? No login
is required when installing snaps from the terminal.

A filter to display only snap would be very useful.

[Bug 1566359] Re: Date and Time conflict with Windows 8.1 dual boot with Ubuntu 16.04 Daily Build

2016-04-27 Thread Bruno Nova
One way to fix this is to open a terminal and run:

timedatectl set-local-rtc 1

(no "sudo" needed)

Previously, the Ubuntu installer would automatically configure itself to
read/write the clock in local time if Windows was detected (dual-boot) by using
that "UTC=no" in '/etc/default/rcS' method.
That doesn't seem to work any more with systemd.

I think the installer should be fixed to do the same thing it did in
14.04, but with systemd.

[Bug 12154] Re: Nautilus should have a superuser mode

2015-07-05 Thread Bruno Nova
For those interested, I created a simple Nautilus extension that adds
Open as Administrator and Edit as Administrator entries to the
context menu.

It's in the official Ubuntu and Debian repositories.
Just enable the backports repository and install the nautilus-admin package.

Of course, this doesn't fix this bug! Nautilus really should ask for the
admin password when necessary, but I don't think this will ever be
implemented.

[Bug 1301401] Re: Remove chat support from Windows Live provider

2014-11-12 Thread Bruno Nova
OK, it seems that the last MSN servers are finally being shutdown.
MSN stopped working for me in Pidgin today.

So I guess it's time to remove Windows Live from Pidgin, Empathy and Online
Accounts.
Unless there's a way to make it work again (through Skype servers or something,
but it's probably not possible and not worth the effort).

[Bug 1271591] Re: upstart job race prevents gnome-keyring from being ssh agent

2014-10-14 Thread Bruno Nova
I upgraded gnome-keyring to 3.10.1-1ubuntu4.1 from trusty-proposed in a
virtual machine.

Before upgrading and rebooting, this bug was occurring.
After rebooting, the bug was gone. I rebooted about 5 times and tested ssh keys
using gnome-terminal (started both from the Dash and from Ctrl+Alt+T) and it
worked every time.

So, for me it's fixed!

[Bug 1247388] Re: Mouse cursor disapear / mouse stops working, when switching user

2014-08-27 Thread Bruno Nova
Here is a user in Ask Ubuntu reporting what I think is the same bug:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/459570/synaptics-touchpad-not-detected-while-switching-user-on-unity/516716
I also have that problem. When I switch to another user (like the guest
session), the touchpad stops working.
The two commands mentioned by the bug reporter enable the touchpad for that
user but, of course, admin privileges are required.

I'm using an Acer laptop with a Synaptics touchpad, Ubuntu 14.04 and lightdm
(not gdm).
The bug doesn't affect my wireless mouse.
Also, the symptoms change when I start the guest session though lightdm vs
directly in the top right cog menu or when I disconnect my mouse before
starting the guest session.

[Bug 12154] Re: Nautilus should have a superuser mode

2014-08-27 Thread Bruno Nova
This feature would be very nice.
But Ubuntu should at least offer an option in the file manager(s) to open as
root like some other distros (plus a warning somewhere in the window that it's
dangerous, like Thunar and Mousepad do when running as root).

Right now, accessing/editing system files requires using sudo in
terminal (gksudo was removed so it's not an option) or adding custom
actions/scripts to the file manager (and nautilus-gksu was also
removed), which is not very user friendly.

[Bug 1271591] Re: upstart job race prevents gnome-keyring from being ssh agent

2014-08-22 Thread Bruno Nova
Finally found this bug report!
I have the same issue. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.

Is the fix going to be backported to Tusty soon? That would be great.

[Bug 1271591] Re: upstart job race prevents gnome-keyring from being ssh agent

2014-08-22 Thread Bruno Nova
In the meantime, just grab this file from here
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/utopic/gnome-keyring/utopic/view/166/debian/gnome-keyring.conf
(it's the fix) and put it in /usr/share/upstart/sessions/, then restart the
session and see if the problem is gone forever.

Still, I'm waiting for the fix to appear in the Trusty repositories
(should be trivial to backport).

[Bug 1301401] Re: Windows Live account doesn't login on Ubuntu 14.04 beta

2014-07-03 Thread Bruno Nova
Messenger also doesn't work for me in Empathy.
It works in Pidgin, though. So the servers are still working.

The linked gnome bugs bug is to Remove chat support from Windows Live
provider, so it's quite different from this one.

[Bug 1304798] Re: Unable to access Facebook online account

2014-05-02 Thread Bruno Nova
I upgraded account-plugin-facebook to the version in saucy-proposed
(13.10.20140414.2-0ubuntu1), and I confirm that this package fixes the bug.
I can now add my Facebook account in Online Accounts.

I also updated to saucy-proposed all other packages built from account-plugins
that I had installed (found no problems):
* libaccount-plugin-google
* libaccount-plugin-generic-oauth
* account-plugin-windows-live
* account-plugin-twitter
* account-plugin-google
* account-plugin-flickr

[Bug 1282824] Re: Nautilus has problems mounting network locations when nautilus-open-terminal is installed

2014-04-26 Thread Bruno Nova
Thanks Scott! I hadn't noticed that spelling error.

I have uninstalled the extension (and replaced it with a custom Nautilus
Action), and I've also seen this problem happen.
But it happens randomly. With the extension installed, it always happens on the
2nd time.

I think I'll add nautilus as affected too.

[Bug 1262801] Re: eog hangs when the print dialog is closed

2014-02-07 Thread Bruno Nova
I installed the version 3.8.2-1ubuntu1.1 of eog from -proposed and
tested it.

I opened an image with eog, accessed the print dialog using all methods
(menu, HUD, Ctrl+P) then closed it using several methods (cancel, close
button, preview, print to file). Eog didn't hang and was still
responsive and working.

I tested all options in the preferences dialog, including the 3 plugins, and
they all still work.
I also tested several other options in the menus and didn't find any issue.

Now, I'm the one who backported Lars Uebernickel's patch to Saucy, but
I'm also the one who reported the bug and the only one marked as
affected.

[Bug 1262801] Re: eog hangs when the print dialog is closed

2014-01-26 Thread Bruno Nova
It would be nice if this bug was fixed for Saucy, but the fix wasn't
backported yet.

I got eog's source code for Saucy (apt-get source eog) and applied the
changes mentioned in the original patch here: https://bug721755
.bugzilla-attachments.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=265878 (the affected
line numbers were different).

The backported patch is attached. The patch seems to fix the bug for Saucy, but
I don't know if it creates additional issues.
I look forward to see this fixed in Saucy!
Meanwhile, thanks to the author of the original patch, Lars Uebernickel!

[Bug 1262801] [NEW] eog hangs when the print dialog is closed

2013-12-19 Thread Bruno Nova
Public bug reported:

When viewing an image in eog (the GNOME image viewer), if I open the Print
dialog through the Image Print menu, eog will hang, and be grayed out, when
the dialog is closed (by clicking Cancel, by clicking Preview, by pressing Esc,
etc.).
This bug also occurs in the Live DVD, at least when using Virtualbox.
I'm using Saucy.

Curiously, when the Print dialog is opened using the keyboard shortcut
Ctrl + P, the bug doesn't occur, and eog continues to work fine after
closing the dialog.
