I can't log off or shutdown witn gnome-panel

Steps to reproduce:
1. login into gnome flashback session
2. switch display output to a monitor with higher screen resolution
- gnome panel does not stretch to the new screen size

I experienced that issue on several Ubuntu 12.04 installations with the
rename option. It is greyed out but still clickable
upstream closed that issue but with no fix for gtk 3.4

The gnome-panel in saucy does not start automatically after login into
gnome-session-flashback resulting in a rather limited desktop experience.
(I blamed the gnome flashback package instead of gnome-panel because it is

It is not working properly it turns out. The first login is OK, but any
further logins goes bad.
1. My Xming connection breaks down.
2. After restart of gdm, I get stuck after entering the password.
3. After s system restart, the first login is successful.
