1) nvidia 960m, bionic-proposed: everything up to date except for
ubuntu-drivers-common. Nvidia driver is working when selected with
prime-select but switching to intel (prime-select intel) does not work.

I still get this effect on Ubuntu 13.04 Raring 64 Bit.
I can easily get this bug by connecting to a windows share in our network and
play a large (125MB) mpeg video with
any player e. g. vlc.
If it does not happen after 5-10 starts, just open the videos with a few
players open parallel. Then
I connect to the network share on a windows server with nautilus by using
connect to server:
smb://140.1.1.14/public/
This starts a process called gvfsd-smb. Cant say if its related to gvfsd-fuse.
Its enough to start the videos 5-10 times until the player hangs.

I've got the same issue. I've done apport-collect -p udisks 541063 and
gvfs-mount -li /tmp/gvfs.txt (you will find gvfs.txt attached here).
The disk not mounted is the one called NICO in gvfs.txt.

I haven't toched gdm ever in my life and after dist-upgrade I still had
the karmic gdm theme. After some more days of updates I was left with
the karmic wallpaper and the greater with no theme, just basic gtk. I
removed /var/lib/gdm then marked gdm for reinstall in synaptic and the
problem is

Try purging the gdm2 configuration tool via
sudo apt-get purge packagename
or, if it doesn't work
sudo dpkg -P packagename
If you installed it from the repos or a .deb package, it should remove it.
Then do a
sudo apt-get --purge autoremove
and
sudo apt-get clean
which will remove all packages

True, I had not thought about that.
Though, the icon disappeared some days ago, I don't remember when, after an
upgrade. Before that, I had no icon problems.

No, I hadn't.
Now a black icon (the icon not found equivalent) is shown, and near it there
is the Empathy Icon (which I'd like to hide).
Is there any way to show a Karmic-like icon? An icon that does not depend on an
applet, shown near NetworkManager and Volume Manager icon, as it was in
