Connected via Nautilus to an other box also running Xubuntu 11.04 as

[Bug 587556] [NEW] nautilus slow start after boot

2010-05-30 Thread DLCBurggraaff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Xubuntu Lucid + Nautilus + Gedit

I reboot from a session with 1 Nautilus and 1 Terminal window and log in as the
same user.
Until recently it took 10 seconds before the Terminal window came up,
immediately followed by a split-second replacement of my wallpaper by an ugly
brown colour and then Nautilus came up.
These 10 seconds are longish, but below the irritation threshold.
Since a few days however the wallpaper kludge and Nautilus take an additional
25 seconds!

[Bug 587556] Re: nautilus slow start after boot

2010-05-30 Thread DLCBurggraaff
Subsequent Nautilus starts (from this or another user) are immediate.

Actually I am not sure Nautilus is the culprit here: When rebooting from
a session with only a Terminal window (or no window at all) the
wallpaper kludge also happens after 35 (10 +25) seconds.

I had a look at Applications Settings Xfce 4 Settings Manager
Session and Startup but for as far as I know nothing was changed there -
see the appended screenshots.

Clicking away from the folder list window (frame, I would say) indeed is the

double clicking on the directory in the folder list frame opens the correct
folder.

The sheer annoyance now is a mere nuisance :))

[Bug 335623] Re: Intrepid - Jaunty Alpha5 : can not mark 'ubuntu-desktp' for upgrade

2009-03-01 Thread DLCBurggraaff
Alas the upgrade now fails at the end with what looks like a python
version problem -- see the attached screenshot.

[Bug 292707] Re: Nautilus is slow and CPU hungry over sftp

2009-02-03 Thread DLCBurggraaff
When doing some additional research I came across #159042.
I found that in both Intrepid and Jaunty disabling the Assistive Technologies
(and logging out and in again) makes the problem go away.

[Bug 292707] Re: Nautilus is slow and CPU hungry over sftp

2009-01-22 Thread DLCBurggraaff
The problem is still there.
In the attached screenshot (usr-share-vnc.png) nautilus shows the contents of
/usr/share/vnc after flipping the triangles. When I then do File New Window
and then double click on vnc, nautilus hangs - the screenshot was taken after 1
minute!
I added testing with 9.04 to my todo list.

[Bug 294555] Re: with ubuntu8.10 the filebrowser Nautilus 2.24.1 is awfully slow.

2008-11-24 Thread DLCBurggraaff
I see the same symptom on my x86_64 systems.
Hardy was not lightning fast, but workable. After upgrading to Intrepid however
things have become unworkable. E.g. Nautilus (List View 50%) takes 35 seconds
to open /usr/lib, from there 17 seconds to open vmware, and from there 50
seconds to go up to /usr/lib again.
This is reproducible on an nvidia as well as on an ICH9 based system.

[Bug 299454] [NEW] Itrepid Ibex: Nautilus list mode quick search inconsistency.

2008-11-18 Thread DLCBurggraaff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Intrepid: In Nautilus list mode navigate to e.g. /etc and in the right (list)
pane type the letter s. In the LRH corner a text entry box pops up and the
samba directory is highlighted in the middle of the list pane. Now double
click on the samba directory name to open that directory. Instead the topmost
directory on list pane (proftpd in my case) is opened ...
Sometimes first doing a single click helps, but often this single click already
opens the topmost directory.
The workaround is to hit esc to close the text popup (or wait for it to close
by itself) before doing the double click.

In Hardy the single or double click closed the text popup and a next
double click was required to open the directory.

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 106350] Re: Metacity crash corrupts future Gnome sessions

2007-04-17 Thread DLCBurggraaff
My administrative user experienced the same symptoms after upgrading the 80
packages that were updated since Apr 11.
Invoking the Windows Preferences gave a popup Cannot start the preferences
application for your window manager, Window manager unknown has not
registered a configuration tool.
Removing the ~/.gnome2 directory made the symptoms disappear.

Root did not experience the problem.
