[Bug 1915315] [NEW] Add elementary Files to AppArmor profiles

2021-02-10 Thread Daniel Fore
Public bug reported:

Currently there some exceptions in the apparmor profiles for common file
browsers, but this list does not include elementary Files:

```
  # 'Show Containing Folder' (LP: #1022962)
  /usr/bin/nautilus Cx -> sanitized_helper, # Gnome
  /usr/bin/pcmanfm Cx -> sanitized_helper,  # LXDE
  /usr/bin/krusader Cx -> sanitized_helper, # KDE
  /usr/bin/thunar Cx -> sanitized_helper,   # XFCE
```

We're currently patching this in:

```
  /usr/bin/io.elementary.files Cx -> sanitized_helper, # Pantheon
```

Would be great if it was included upstream! :)

As of Artful, it seems that there are still patches against various apps

Now that GNOME Shell is default in Ubuntu and there is better support

[Bug 825956] [NEW] Add Contractor support

2011-08-13 Thread Daniel Fore
Public bug reported:

Contractor is a neat little system service that allows applications to
become automatically extensible. If File roller were to support
Contractor, it could integrate it's features into every application that
supports contractor without requiring developers to explicitly write a
lot of code. You can read more about some of the ideas behind contractor
here: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/03/contractor-brings-seamless-
file-sharing-between-apps-to-the-linux-desktop/

Specifically, I'd like to see the action for Compress Folder supported
in contractor. This is a neat action present in Nautilus and it'd be
nice to have it in other apps that deal with folders.

Writing a contract is insanely simple:

[Bug 589076] Re: Nautilus Segmentation Fault 0x010719a5 in IA__gtk_range_set_value

Sebastian, to completely clear: we ARE talking with Nautilus Upstream.
We ARE collaborating on certain features. They ARE NOT interested in our
entire feature set. If you like I can forward you Allan's summary of the
discussion that we've been having with upstream over the past few weeks.

I don't appreciate you making a statement like it's not recommended to
use it. We've been working extremely hard to build a better Nautilus
and have specifically made it highly accessible to the Ubuntu user. This
is like saying that it's not recommended to use Unity over Gnome Shell.
These are different projects with different views on how to solve the
same problem.

[Bug 393585] Re: Focused/unfocused selection colors are confusingly similar

Marking invalid in papercuts. This is definitely a big bug and a
usability issue, but it isn't within the scope of the papercuts project.
Papercuts are small usability bugs that can be fixed by one person
relatively easily. Properly fixing this bug would require the
coordination of several individuals and it is unknown how long it would
take to fix.

Mac OS uses Move to Trash

I don't believe it would be the correct decision in this case to do what
Windows does. This is just one of those things where users have been trained
to do it a weird way. I'd argue that people coming from a Mac would say oh
noes why will it delete, what if I want it back later?

[Bug 488129] Re: Nautilus usability

2009-12-01 Thread Daniel Fore
@Stephan

Try reading the response again ;) It's hard for developers to track big
lists of problems like this. He's asking if you could file each request
as a separate bug report. That'll make it easier for the developers to
go about implementing these features/fixes.

Also, if you really want to speed up development, you should contact the
Nautilus developers directly and present them with these problems.
Unfortunately, the GNOME developers don't use launchpad for their bug
tracking. So, the people working on the Papercuts project have to end up
refiling a lot of these bugs upstream (where the GNOME developers
are). This takes time and could mean that your bugs go unnoticed to
these developers.

I know, it could be better. And that's a good idea about splitting up
the bugs automatically! Maybe you should file that one against launchpad
;)

Yes, it would be nice if you submitted these again individually.

Papercuts isn't necessarily the *wrong* place to file these bugs. But,
it would be helpful to file directly against Nautilus upstream to it's
developers.

[Bug 406759] Re: Users should apply a wallpaper to have it changed

2009-11-13 Thread Daniel Fore
I really doubt this behavior will change as it's part of the GNOME's
philosophy that all changes should be instantaneous without an apply
button.

[Bug 382626] Re: Nautilus location bar toggle icon implies unrelated function

2009-08-02 Thread Daniel Fore
I'm going to have to go with Kalle and say that the real solution is to
redesign the location bar. Also, I'm going to have to say that this
papercut is not a bug in any icon set, but with nautilus. You can't
change the icon without affecting other apps that use that icon
properly.

** Changed in: humanity
   Status: New = Invalid

[Bug 301035] Re: Ubuntu icon on the system partition

Can't currently fix this in Humanity, sorry :( The change will have to
come in Nautilus first.

Re: [Bug 126103] Re: Default folders inside Home Folder (e.g. Documents, Music) should have special icons/emblems

2009-07-22 Thread Daniel Fore
Does this mean you want me to make changes in Humanity, or this only
about Human?

Best Regards,

 Considering the number of folders with orange/white emblems already on

 nautilus 2.19.4-0ubuntu2

 now that xdg-user-dirs are available, nautilus should attach the right icon
 to them! And the icon should be also visible in the Places panel
