Hi According to my Synaptic package manager I have libgpod4 installed (version 0.7.95-1). Hope this helps. It doesn't let me add any music to it. The iPod works fine in iTunes on Sindows. I have no blank CDs at the moment. I did try my wife's iPod shuffle (2nd Generation) on Rhythmbox (x64 maverick) and that works fine if that helps.
