Visual artifact 1px vertical white line
In the past I had seen a 1px gap down the right side of the wallpaper on
Intel, but I think that was only during desktop zoom and I can't
reproduce it today. Whatever the cause was might still be present and
might only be manifesting with AMD graphics. Just a theory.

I wonder if this is related to the extensions being restarted (panels
recreated) after unlocking. Mutter's window constraints code might
handle conflicts between panels and windows when the windows change
state, but not when a new panel suddenly appears.

That's not really related to this bug. But yes, some apps incorrectly
prefer X11 over Wayland when both protocols are available. That's a bug
in the app (or sometimes intentional), so please talk to the app
developers.

Firstly, in case this is bug 1976204, please ensure you have
gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng
version 43-2ubuntu1 or later. Disabling the Desktop Icons NG extension is also
a workaround.
If the problem still occurs after that then it might also be bug
