[Bug 1840612] [NEW] Software Center offers multiple version without explanation
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 19.04 Gnome-software: 3.30.6-2ubuntu4.19.04.1 By default Ubuntu Software offers applications both from the ubuntu repos and the snap store. that's fine but confusing. The two packages can have different versions and descriptions, or the same version and the same descriptions. This is all very confusing for anyone who doesn't understand the difference. I'm not going to suggest a specific solution, but here are some thoughts. - some key differences could be highlighted in tool-tip text - the 'snap-store' text could be made into a button like the 'channel and 'license buttons. An explanatory text could be kept there. - if Canonical thinks it's unimportant which source is used (which is implied by not giving any caveats) then why not just roll the multiple packages into one entry (like the current multiple versions available) and make the 'source' text into an 'any' button which offers a choice of source. The newest version (regardless of source) could be offered by default. PS. it's inconsistent that the option to include snappy is a setting in the Gnome-software package and cannot be set in the Software & Updates package. ** Affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: + Ubuntu 19.04 + Gnome-software: 3.30.6-2ubuntu4.19.04.1 + By default Ubuntu Software offers applications both from the ubuntu repos and the snap store. that's fine but confusing. [Bug 791993] [NEW] file-roller mangles non English filenames without warning
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: file-roller What happens Because of the inherent limitations in the ZIP archive format as described at http://superuser.com/questions/60379/linux-zip-tgz-filenames-encoding-problem it is not possible to encode file names with non-english characters so they deflate with the correct names. [Bug 611473] [NEW] cryptic message about menu accelerators confuses me
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vinagre In Vinagre 2.30.2 (Ubuntu 10.04) there is the following message: Vinagre comes with menu accelerators and keyboard shortcuts disabled by default. The reason is to avoid the keys to be intercepted by the program, and allow them to be sent to the remote machine. You can change this behavior through the preferences dialog. For more information, check the documentation. This message will appear only once. I just want to say that I don't understand this message, but I'm not totally new to VNC. So I guess this means the message could be clearer. I went to look at the Vinagre manual and found section "2.4. Some notes about Vinagre". There I think the text is much clearer, at least I understood it. It reads: Vinagre comes with menu accelerators and keyboard shortcuts disabled by default. This avoids keys being intercepted by Vinagre when you wanted to send those keys to the remote machine. For instance, the keyboard shortcut to close a tab is Ctrl+W, but that key combination will be sent to the remote machine by default. I suggest that the manual text be used to replace the message. ** Affects: vinagre (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- cryptic message about menu accelerators confuses me https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/611473 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to vinagre in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 488131] [NEW] Empathy doesn't let me switch between dictionary languages per chat window.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: empathy I regularly chat in English (en-gb, see bug 445863) and Danish at the same time. A number of words can be spelt wrongly, but because they are valid in the other language, they show up as spelt correctly. The right- click spelling menu should allow me to specify which language an IM chat is using and then only check that dictionary. See the Firefox implementation for a good implementation.
