Marco, Context: Scarlett is the lead for Kubuntu, so she's looking at it from a KDE Plasma perspective, which for her packaging purposes would need a dpkg-divert to switch the geoclue.conf to something else, but that's not exactly a problem for her as it's not a package they ship by default. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2062178 Title: Disable location services in gnome-control-center To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-control-center/+bug/2062178/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Scarlett, Ubuntu Studio has `plasma-wallpaper-dynamic` which pulls-in `libqt5positioning5` which pulls in `geoclue-2.0` so Nightcolor detects positioning by default for us. Apparently, it says this: "The device's location will be periodically updated using GPS (if available), or by sending network information to Mozilla Location Service." [Bug 2046844] Re: AppArmor user namespace creation restrictions cause many applications to crash with SIGTRAP
John, The version in the PPA is now older than the version in the repository so no further testing can be done unless the changes in the PPA have now been uploaded (?). That said, regarding electron apps, it does appear as though the .deb versions of Visual Studio Code and Element Desktop are affected. Granted, those are installed from outside the repository, but I'd contend those are applications a gigantic part of the user base depends on. In fact, for Element, that's something the Ubuntu Community will be relying on in short order. The only workarounds for these are to install the snap versions or launch with `--no-sandbox`. In Element's case, it's maintained by a third party, so that's the only factor I can see as being problematic. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to devhelp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2046844 Title: AppArmor user namespace creation restrictions cause many applications to crash with SIGTRAP To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/akregator/+bug/2046844/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

>I don't understand why this bug was marked as Opinion. If something works in the previous version and don't work in current version is a Bug or a Regression. Because, per the documentation, the method changed. Therefore, this was an upstream change. Therefore, it is your *opinion* that it should have stayed the same. That's not a bug or regression. In programming and methodology, things change all the time and the downstreams must adapt to it. Therefore, instead of placing .desktop files in /usr/share/gdm/greeter/autostart/, they should now be placed in /usr/share/gdm/autostart/LoginWindow/. However, I have only ever seen autostart ever controlled by the gnome-shell executable and executed in /etc/xdg/autostart. [Bug 1860899] Re: Add extra information to tabs in folders
Although the upstream bug was closed and Launchpad interpreted that closure as "Fix Released", it was closed as "Feature: Out of Scope" meaning it will not be implemented. Therefore, this feature request will be closed as "Won't Fix" as it is the equivalent closure method here. Marco, it's a great suggestion and, from an Audio/Video technician/engineer perspective, something I'd really want. However, those who control the project disagree and wish to keep things extremely simple for the benefit of the general public, it seems, and that's ok. [Bug 1780296] Re: [SRU] Update to bugfix 2.0.5 in Bionic
Thank you for taking the time to file this bug report and make Ubuntu better. We apologize that we're not always able to get to bug reports in a timely manner as most bug triage is done by volunteers. This appears to be an attempt at an SRU, however, it does not follow the prescribed SRU procedure. If the reporter does not have upload rights, a fix will need to be sponsored by a member of the Ubuntu Core Development team. Proper SRU procedure is outlined here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure As of this comment, this bug has yet to be fixed. Realistically, the likelihood of this fix happening is lessening as 18.04 (Bionic) reaches End of Regular Support in April 2023, meaning that nearly four of the five-year regular support span has already lapsed. The best method of resolving this is to upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS or, when it releases April 2022, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. Additionally, the likelihood of an SRU happening is slim due to this: > * libtracker-direct: Majorly rewritten Any major rewrites usually constitute a rejection of an SRU. However, I am not on the SRU team, so YMMV. ** Changed in: tracker-miners (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: tracker (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: tracker (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: tracker-miners (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to tracker in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1780296 Title: [SRU] Update to bugfix 2.0.5 in Bionic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tracker/+bug/1780296/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1944468] [NEW] Electron applications all crash upon launch
Public bug reported: Just a few weeks ago, I noticed the .deb version of Visual Studio Code crashing upon launch. I also noticed Element (matrix client) also would crash. The only thing these applications have in common is electron. I was hoping this would get noticed by someone and that the issue would be figured out, but I guess that person had to be me. Erroneously-filed bug 1943568 exhibits the same issues. Experimenting with Visual Studio Code provided this: [347381:0921/133026.728654:ERROR:proxy_config_service_linux.cc(608)] inotify_init failed: Too many open files (24) [347419:0921/133026.764752:ERROR:file_path_watcher_linux.cc(326)] inotify_init() failed: Too many open files (24) [main 2021-09-21T20:30:26.930Z] update#setState idle [347381:0921/133027.009472:ERROR:gpu_process_host.cc(1007)] GPU process exited unexpectedly: exit_code=159 [347381:0921/133027.323205:ERROR:gpu_process_host.cc(1007)] GPU process exited unexpectedly: exit_code=159 [347381:0921/133027.690827:ERROR:gpu_process_host.cc(1007)] GPU process exited unexpectedly: exit_code=159 [347490:0921/133027.728195:ERROR:gpu_init.cc(440)] Passthrough is not supported, GL is swiftshader [347381:0921/133027.879310:ERROR:gpu_process_host.cc(1007)] GPU process exited unexpectedly: exit_code=159 [347495:0921/133027.894439:ERROR:gpu_init.cc(440)] Passthrough is not supported, GL is swiftshader [347381:0921/133028.049455:ERROR:gpu_process_host.cc(1007)] GPU process exited unexpectedly: exit_code=159 [347499:0921/133028.063977:ERROR:gpu_init.cc(440)] Passthrough is not supported, GL is swiftshader [347381:0921/133028.216114:ERROR:gpu_process_host.cc(1007)] GPU process exited unexpectedly: exit_code=159 [347511:0921/133028.222585:ERROR:gpu_init.cc(440)] Passthrough is not supported, GL is disabled [347381:0921/133028.384052:ERROR:gpu_process_host.cc(1007)] GPU process exited unexpectedly: exit_code=159 [347515:0921/133028.442903:ERROR:gpu_init.cc(440)] Passthrough is not supported, GL is disabled [347381:0921/133028.596590:ERROR:gpu_process_host.cc(1007)] GPU process exited unexpectedly: exit_code=159 [347519:0921/133028.602088:ERROR:gpu_init.cc(440)] Passthrough is not supported, GL is disabled [347381:0921/133028.749373:ERROR:gpu_process_host.cc(1007)] GPU process exited unexpectedly: exit_code=159 [347381:0921/133028.749401:FATAL:gpu_data_manager_impl_private.cc(415)] GPU process isn't usable. Report Id: Illegal instruction (core dumped) When either application was provided "--no-sandbox" at the command line, they would run normally. However, Element does not pass that via command line, so I was unable to use the workaround for that. Upon investigating the runtime dependencies for Element, Atom, and VSCode, the one thing they had in common was libgtk-3-0, and the date of 2021-09-03 for publishing coincides with the time in which these errors started to appear. Another workaround, other than the "--no-sandbox" usage, is to use the snap version of the apps if available, or flatpak. These provide their own versions of these dependencies, which tells me these .deb-based applications are affected by libgtk-3-0. Granted, those applications are not in the Ubuntu repository, however, many people (including myself) rely on those to function correctly. It would be very bad if Electron apps failed to function when 21.10 is released.
