I still crash with this issue whenever I try to apply changes to any
display settings (e.g. refresh rate, multi-monitor positioning, etc.)

[Bug 1767542] Re: Turning off WiFi enables Airplane mode

2021-03-08 Thread Evan Royal
Will this ever get fixed? I need wifi for phone calls sometimes. I get
all the settings juuust right, then bam! Airplane mode. Just for no
reason. I have set it to not save power, ever, for any reason, done the
tweaks. But my settings go back to default after a restart. For some
this not a minor bug. Please don't push me to Windows.

[Bug 1762427] [NEW] No feedback when snap installation fails

2018-04-09 Thread Evan
Public bug reported:

What happened:

I tried to install Ora from gnome-software 3.20.5-0ubuntu0.16.04.8. The
install button showed the initialised progress state, but never updated.
Dropping to the terminal I could see with snap changes that the task had
errored (because of a 503 talking to the store).

What should happen:

The UI should provide some indication that the install was not
successful.

[Bug 1742950] [NEW] Snap sections are not shown in GNOME Software

2018-01-12 Thread Evan
Public bug reported:

The Snap Store maintains app sections:

$ snap find --section=games

Agony
pin-town2.0.79 failsafegames - Help the Pin Pals in
this physics puzzle game, inspired by Pachinko

[Bug 1500673] Re: gdm unusable after upgrading to 15.10

2015-10-28 Thread Evan R
When I was fishing around in /etc/gdm/custom.conf I noticed this line:

[daemon]
# Uncomment the line below to force the login screen to use Xorg
#WaylandEnable = false

After doing a bit of research I found this:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GDM#Use_Xorg_backend which says
that by default, GDM 3.16+ uses Wayland as the default display server. I
installed the xwayland package and GDM started working again. Apparently
xwayland isn't one of GDM's dependencies, given my "apt-cache rdepends
gdm" output.

[Bug 164120] Re: file manager hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible

2014-06-01 Thread Evan Carroll
I don't think this bug has *anything* to do with nautilus. The after
pulling the plug on the NFS drive anything that tries to access it
crashes, here is the ltrace,

bindtextdomain(util-linux, /usr/share/locale)
= /usr/share/locale
textdomain(util-linux)
= util-linux
strrchr(umount, '/')
= nil
umask(022)
= 022
getopt_long(3, 0x7fff4f92f708, adfhlnrit:O:vV, 0x610460, nil)
= 102
getopt_long(3, 0x7fff4f92f708, adfhlnrit:O:vV, 0x610460, nil)
= -1
getuid()
= 0
geteuid()
= 0
__cxa_atexit(0x4057b0, 0, 0, -1)
= 0
mnt_init_debug(0, 0x7f71b88abeb0, 2, 1)
= 2
readlink(0x7fff4f92e4c0, 0x7fff4f92d4b0, 4096, 2310)
= -1
__errno_location()
= 0x7f71b8ef97e0
readlink(0x7fff4f92e4c0, 0x7fff4f92d4b0, 4096, -160

Seems as if it makes a call to readlink() which returns -1 indicating an
error (3rd line to last), then it realizes that it has an error. And,
does a readlink in the same fashion setting buffsize to -160, presumably
in whatever handles the error.. I'm confused.

[Bug 164120] Re: file manager hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible

2014-06-01 Thread Evan Carroll
Here is the strace, we can see the two calls to readlink which has the actual
path.. A simple `ls` in the directory fails /mnt hangs without even running
umount. This is what I assume is the core of the nautilus symptom people are
ranting about. I think this is also why nfs drives can't umount when
disconnected. I don't know why umount has to ls the parent directory to umount
the location. I can understand it doing so, but I'd expect it the -f option to
just purge the kernel's knowledge of the mount point and move on with life.
That `umount -f` issues an readlink() in cwd, and that an ls with failed mount
hangs is what I assume is the problem here.

[Bug 1247621] Re: Search field doesn't works in ubuntu 13.10

2013-11-04 Thread Evan Carroll
I have this problem too. If I search in a multipage document for a term
and I hit next it jumps in the view between the occurances on a single
page, and in the pane on the left where it shows all occurrences in the
documents it continues through the list.

PG 1

a1 Foo
a1 Bar
a2 Foo

PG 2

b1 Foo
b1 Bar
b2 Foo

If I search for Foo the left pane will show
a1 Foo
a2 Foo
b1 Foo
b2 Foo

If I hit enter the `a1 Foo` will be highlighted, if I hit enter again `a2 Foo`
will be higlighted. If I hit enter a third time, `a1 Foo` will be highlighted
but the left bar will highlight `b1 Foo`.

[11:52:24] apw ok there are a continuious stream of updates from the

[Bug 1226642] Re: Nautilus uses ubuntu username/password when acessing a windows share

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create an Ubuntu account and a samba account with the same username but

message, as seen in the wireshark logs, is that the account is locked out.

  Expected Behavior

After step 3 nautilus will prompt for user name and password to use to

2013-08-14 Thread Evan Dandrea
Valgrind isn't showing anything particularly relevant. The uninitialised
value error is present in all bzr revisions of whoopsie when using this
version of libc (2.17-91ubuntu1 - probably earlier ones too as I just
upgraded it).

For what it's worth, I've been unable to reproduce this at all on an up-

expected to see it by now.

[Bug 1010711] Re: Battery not detected under Power Statistics, Battery Indicator not showing in menu bar, and Battery Status setting under Power not sticking

2012-06-14 Thread Evan Peck
Patrick,

Probably not. Omer knows when it's a Unity bug of not (he's a Unity
community hacker). You said it effects both Unity and GNOME Shell, so
that means it's not a bug SPECIFIC to Unity. As I said in #5, it might
be a hardware detection problem, so run:

uname -a uname-a.log

cat /proc/version_signature proc_version_signature.log

sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log (those are 2 v's not a w)

dmesg dmesg.log

and attacht the 4 files it outputs (uname-a.log, proc_version_signature.log,
lspci-vvnn.log, and dmesg.log).
Muchas Gracias!

That's OK! It just seems like the bug is more Ubuntu itself recognizing
it as a laptop- and just not telling each of those programs. I
definitely appreciate you having a great description. :) I'd like to

huge bumber.

2012-06-08 Thread Evan Peck
Patrick,

Please do not confirm your bugs unless instructed by a triager. I will
leave it as confirmed, tho, as this also effects me and I experience
identical symptoms. Also, I'm not quite sure about your package choice.
It seems that one component of Ubuntu detects our laptops as desktops,
and effects Unity, Gnome-Control-Centre, rather than each individual
program having a seperate bug.

Muchas Gracias!

[Bug 1007691] [NEW] Simulated Right-Click Turns Off After Reboot

2012-06-01 Thread Evan Peck
Public bug reported:

When I enable the Simulated Right-Click feature, it works, but after
turning off my laptop and turning it on again, the option still says
ON but does not work. I have to turn it off, then on again. Then it
seems to work. Hm...

This may also help: Ubuntu does not recognize my PowerBook G4 as a laptop, so
apm also has some suspend+restore problems.

[Bug 981628] Re: Changing HUD key from 'Alt' to 'Alt' changes behaviour

** Also affects: gnome-control-center

** Description changed:

- (This perhaps should be against gnome-control-center instead of unity?)
+ Problem is likely in 54_enable_alt_tap_in_shortcut.patch in gnome-
+ control-center.

  1. Initially, note that both HUD (using left alt) and window management menu
(using alt-space) work properly. The HUD shortcut in Keyboard Settings is
listed as Alt L.
  2. Click on the setting to change it, and tap the left alt key.
  3. The shortcut now reads as Mod2 + Alt L (note the addition of the
Mod2). The HUD is still assigned to left alt, but using alt-space now *also*
brings up the HUD, and not the window management menu like it should.

CCSM can be used to restore the correct shortcut.

[Bug 960757] Re: whoopsie crashed with SIGSEGV in g_object_newv()

2012-03-23 Thread Evan Dandrea
Can you please first upgrade whoopsie to 0.1.20 or later. Then please edit
/etc/init/whoopsie.conf as root (sudo gedit /etc/init/whoopsie.conf) and just
below the line that reads env CRASH_DB_URL=https://daisy.ubuntu.com, put env
G_SLICE=always-malloc. So the file then looks like this:
...
env CRASH_DB_URL=https://daisy.ubuntu.com
env G_SLICE=always-malloc
...

Then run `sudo restart whoopsie`, and report back here on whether that
stops the crash in whoopsie from happening. The dialog that appears will
say Ubuntu has encountered an internal error, but if you hit Show
Details, the Package will be whoopsie.

To be clear, you may get crashes that say Ubuntu has encountered an
internal error, but we're only concerned about ones for the whoopsie
package in this bug report.

Thanks!

[Bug 960757] Re: whoopsie crashed with SIGSEGV in g_object_newv()

2012-03-23 Thread Evan Dandrea
If you're experiencing this bug, please upgrade to whoopsie 0.1.23 and
report back here on whether or not you're still seeing whoopsie crashes.

To be clear, whoopsie crashes are ones that have Package: whoopsie in
the Show Details section.

[Bug 887946] Re: Deadlocks in main loop

2012-01-16 Thread Evan Broder
I'm unsubscribing ubuntu-sponsors from this bug. Merge-proposals
requesting a review from ubuntu-sponsors or ubuntu-branches (the
default) automatically show up in our queue for sponsorship.
Additionally subscribing ubuntu-sponsors creates an extra entry, so it
should only be used when attaching a debdiff to a bug, not when opening
a merge proposal

I reproduced the crash while running under gdb and captured a full core

+ Original bug description:
  ---
  Issue Description
  ---

In relation to weather-applet and libgweather - over the past
several months, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has updated
its website to deliver a HTML forecast page for a number of locations
  around Australia.

Currently - the zone tag from Locations.xml is used within the
weather-bom.c to retrieve information from the appropriate bom.gov.au
URL which if successful is then parsed in the bom_parse function.

With the new HTML forecast pages for various locations however, the data
can not be successfully parsed and instead the message Forecast not
currently available for this location. shows up on the Forecast tab of
  weather-applet.

  ---
  Area of Interest
  ---

Within weather-bom.c - the following line of code points to URLs
(depending on location) that now have HTML forecast data rather than
  plain text...

- url = g_strdup_printf (http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?%s.txt;,
-  loc-zone + 1);
+ url = g_strdup_printf (http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?%s.txt;,
+   loc-zone + 1);

  ---
  Suggested Fix
  ---

I suggest/propose that the URL above be changed to point to plain text
documents on the BOM FTP server (ftp://ftp2.bom.gov.au/anon/gen/fwo/)
with the appropriate weather station zone.

e.g. for Sydney (Zone IDN10064) - currently the code would point to:

  http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDN10064.txt

However this is now a HTML forecast, which causes the issue noted
above... by pointing the code to:

  ftp://ftp2.bom.gov.au/anon/gen/fwo/IDN10064.txt

The plain text forecast can be used without any modification to the
  other functions/aspects of the code.

  ---
  Patches - Untested!
  ---

Please see the attached weather-bom.c which includes the suggested fix
(i.e. patched version). Note it will need to be/should be tested by
someone who knows how to recompile the libgweather source.

[Bug 629646] Re: Locations using bom.gov.au for forecast data no longer can no longer retrieve forecast data

2011-11-27 Thread Evan Broder
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
libgweather is unable to parse the HTML data previously returned from the
Australian Bureau of Meteorology

  [Development Fix]
  Fix committed upstream as a80552f51c641754ef8410eebea6debc23a25561,
73829e640d2ebd7f926563145ca81702c17d0abb. Picked up in 3.2.1-1ubuntu1

  [Stable Fix]
  Debdiffs attached for Lucid
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgweather/+bug/629646/+attachment/2610674/+files/libgweather_2.30.0-0ubuntu1.1.debdiff),
 Maverick
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgweather/+bug/629646/+attachment/2610675/+files/libgweather_2.30.3-0ubuntu1.1.debdiff),
 Natty
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgweather/+bug/629646/+attachment/2610676/+files/libgweather_2.30.3-1ubuntu1.1.debdiff),
 and Oneiric
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgweather/+bug/629646/+attachment/2610677/+files/libgweather_3.2.0-0ubuntu1.1.debdiff)

  [Test Case]
+ 1. Login using a session with the gnome-panel (Ubuntu for Lucid, Maverick;
Ubuntu Classic for Natty; GNOME Classic on Oneiric)
+ 2. Right-click on the panel (Alt-right click for Oneiric) and select Add to
Panel...
+ 3. Choose the Weather Report applet and add it to the panel
+ 4. Right click on the weather applet and choose preferences
+ 5. Go to the Location tab
+ 6. Search for and select Sydney Airport, then close the preferences window
+ 7. Left-click on the weather applet
+ 8. Click Update from the details tab
+ 9. Switch to the Forecast tab, and observe that the forecast is not
available (or is, with the patch)

  [Regression Potential]
Minimal. The patch is isolated, only changes parsing for the affected region
(AU), and cherry-picked from upstream

(depending on location) that now have HTML forecast data rather than
  plain text...

  url = g_strdup_printf (http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?%s.txt;,
    loc-zone + 1);

  ---
  Suggested Fix
  ---

I suggest/propose that the URL above be changed to point to plain text
documents on the BOM FTP server (ftp://ftp2.bom.gov.au/anon/gen/fwo/)
with the appropriate weather station zone.

e.g. for Sydney (Zone IDN10064) - currently the code would point to:

  http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDN10064.txt

However this is now a HTML forecast, which causes the issue noted
above... by pointing the code to:

  ftp://ftp2.bom.gov.au/anon/gen/fwo/IDN10064.txt

The plain text forecast can be used without any modification to the
  other functions/aspects of the code.

  ---
  Patches - Untested!
  ---

Please see the attached weather-bom.c which includes the suggested fix
(i.e. patched version). Note it will need to be/should be tested by
someone who knows how to recompile the libgweather source.
