[Bug 164120] Re: file manager hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible

[Bug 164120] Re: file manager hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible
Here is the strace, we can see the two calls to readlink which has the actual path.. A simple `ls` in the directory fails /mnt hangs without even running umount. This is what I assume is the core of the nautilus symptom people are ranting about. I think this is also why nfs drives can't umount when disconnected. I don't know why umount has to ls the parent directory to umount the location. I can understand it doing so, but I'd expect it the -f option to just purge the kernel's knowledge of the mount point and move on with life. That `umount -f` issues an readlink() in cwd, and that an ls with failed mount hangs is what I assume is the problem here. , fstat(3, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0444, st_size=0, ...}) = 0 mmap(NULL, 4096, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0) = 0x7f2630b74000 read(3, nodev\tsysfs\nnodev\trootfs\nnodev\tr..., 1024) = 365 read(3, , 1024) = 0 close(3)= 0 munmap(0x7f2630b74000, 4096)= 0 open(/usr/lib/locale/locale-archive, O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = 3 fstat(3, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=2919792, ...}) = 0 mmap(NULL, 2919792, PROT_READ, MAP_PRIVATE, 3, 0) = 0x7f262f61 close(3)= 0 umask(022) = 022 getuid()= 0 geteuid() = 0 readlink(/mnt, 0x7fff2a645120, 4096) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument) readlink(/mnt/nfs, -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164120 Title: file manager hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dolphin/+bug/164120/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I have this problem too. If I search in a multipage document for a term and I hit next it jumps in the view between the occurances on a single page, and in the pane on the left where it shows all occurrences in the documents it continues through the list. PG 1 a1 Foo a1 Bar a2 Foo PG 2 b1 Foo b1 Bar b2 Foo If I search for Foo the left pane will show a1 Foo a2 Foo b1 Foo b2 Foo If I hit enter the `a1 Foo` will be highlighted, if I hit enter again `a2 Foo` will be higlighted. [11:52:24] apw ok there are a continuious stream of updates from the kernel [11:52:37] apw becasue link level mappings are in the routing table, and they appear and dissapear [11:52:39] apw all the time [11:53:04] apw try sudo ip monitor [15:12:24] ev so basically this approach is bogus then? [15:19:05] apw when the link level addresses got promoted from another separate cache into the [15:19:13] apw routing table, which sped things up [15:19:53] apw so ipv6 neibour discovery results, and ipv4 arp results get put in as a real 'host route' now [15:20:01] apw and then removed when they time out [15:20:09] apw which might mean things looking for route changes would see both [15:20:22] apw of those, and think networking changed, but you would need to shove a print in there [15:20:24] apw to be sure me thinks -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/991481 Title: Constant dns traffic for daisy.ubuntu.com To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/whoopsie/+bug/991481/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1010711] Re: Battery not detected under Power Statistics, Battery Indicator not showing in menu bar, and Battery Status setting under Power not sticking
Patrick, Probably not. Omer knows when it's a Unity bug of not (he's a Unity community hacker). You said it effects both Unity and GNOME Shell, so that means it's not a bug SPECIFIC to Unity. As I said in #5, it might be a hardware detection problem, so run: uname -a uname-a.log cat /proc/version_signature proc_version_signature.log sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log (those are 2 v's not a w) dmesg dmesg.log and attacht the 4 files it outputs (uname-a.log, proc_version_signature.log, lspci-vvnn.log, and dmesg.log). [Bug 1010711] Re: Battery not detected under Power Statistics, Battery Indicator not showing in menu bar, and Battery Status setting under Power not sticking
Patrick, That's OK! It just seems like the bug is more Ubuntu itself recognizing it as a laptop- and just not telling each of those programs. I definitely appreciate you having a great description. :) I'd like to know what happens with this bug, as for the people that have it, it's a huge bumber. Muchas Gracias! [Bug 1010711] Re: Battery not detected under Power Statistics, Battery Indicator not showing in menu bar, and Battery Status setting under Power not sticking
Patrick, Please do not confirm your bugs unless instructed by a triager. I will leave it as confirmed, tho, as this also effects me and I experience identical symptoms. Also, I'm not quite sure about your package choice. It seems that one component of Ubuntu detects our laptops as desktops, and effects Unity, Gnome-Control-Centre, rather than each individual program having a seperate bug. Muchas Gracias! [Bug 960757] Re: whoopsie crashed with SIGSEGV in g_object_newv()
Can you please first upgrade whoopsie to 0.1.20 or later. Then please edit /etc/init/whoopsie.conf as root (sudo gedit /etc/init/whoopsie.conf) and just below the line that reads env CRASH_DB_URL=https://daisy.ubuntu.com, put env G_SLICE=always-malloc. So the file then looks like this: ... env CRASH_DB_URL=https://daisy.ubuntu.com env G_SLICE=always-malloc ... Then run `sudo restart whoopsie`, and report back here on whether that stops the crash in whoopsie from happening. The dialog that appears will say Ubuntu has encountered an internal error, but if you hit Show Details, the Package will be whoopsie. To be clear, you may get crashes that say Ubuntu has encountered an internal error, but we're only concerned about ones for the whoopsie package in this bug report. The patch is isolated, only changes parsing for the affected region (AU), and cherry-picked from upstream + + === + Original bug description: --- Issue Description --- In relation to weather-applet and libgweather - over the past several months, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has updated its website to deliver a HTML forecast page for a number of locations around Australia. Currently - the zone tag from Locations.xml is used within the weather-bom.c to retrieve information from the appropriate bom.gov.au URL which if successful is then parsed in the bom_parse function. With the new HTML forecast pages for various locations however, the data can not be successfully parsed and instead the message Forecast not currently available for this location. shows up on the Forecast tab of weather-applet. --- Area of Interest --- Within weather-bom.c - the following line of code points to URLs (depending on location) that now have HTML forecast data rather than plain text... - url = g_strdup_printf (http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?%s.txt;, - loc-zone + 1); + url = g_strdup_printf (http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?%s.txt;, + loc-zone + 1); --- Suggested Fix --- I suggest/propose that the URL above be changed to point to plain text documents on the BOM FTP server (ftp://ftp2.bom.gov.au/anon/gen/fwo/) with the appropriate weather station zone. e.g. for Sydney (Zone IDN10064) - currently the code would point to: http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDN10064.txt However this is now a HTML forecast, which causes the issue noted above... by pointing the code to: ftp://ftp2.bom.gov.au/anon/gen/fwo/IDN10064.txt The plain text forecast can be used without any modification to the other functions/aspects of the code. --- Patches - Untested! --- Please see the attached weather-bom.c which includes the suggested fix (i.e. patched version). Note it will need to be/should be tested by someone who knows how to recompile the libgweather source. - System information - Description: Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS Release: 10.04 libgweather-common: - Installed: 2.30.0-0ubuntu1 - Candidate: 2.30.0-0ubuntu1 - Version table: - *** 2.30.0-0ubuntu1 0 - 500 http://ftp.iinet.net.au/linux/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages - 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status + Installed: 2.30.0-0ubuntu1 + Candidate: 2.30.0-0ubuntu1 + Version table: + *** 2.30.0-0ubuntu1 0 + 500 http://ftp.iinet.net.au/linux/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages + 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status - -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to libgweather in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/629646 Title: Locations using bom.gov.au for forecast data no longer can no longer retrieve forecast data To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libgweather/+bug/629646/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
