[Bug 1976554] Re: [Lenovo X1 Yoga 5th Gen] Screen auto rotates randomly after suspend

2022-09-28 Thread Giampiero Salvi
I can confirm the same happening on a Dell Latitude 7390 2-in-1 with
Ubuntu 22.04.1, gnome version 42.4, windowing system: X11, kernel:
5.15.0-48-generic.

Details:
I have screen rotation locked, but after resuming from suspend the screen is
rotated randomly. Then I first have to unlock screen rotation (by trying to
move the mouse in the wrong orientation), and then rotate the laptop until the
screen rotation is triggered and restored to the actual orientation of the
laptop. Finally I need to lock screen rotation again.

[Bug 1821298] [NEW] Evince with beamer multimedia: video content covers slides

2019-03-22 Thread Giampiero Salvi
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I have been using beamer and the multimedia package for many years to play
video and audio content in my slides. Until now, the only free viewer that
could display the material that I am aware of was Okular. However, since Ubuntu
18.04, okular has become extremely unstable with continuous crashes, so I have
given another try to Evince.

Evince can display the videos just fine, but unfortunately, when the
video ends, the last frame remains on top of any new slide covering the
slide material. I believe this should be an easy fix. There must be some
cleaning up that needs to be done at the end of the video, or when the
slide is changed that is clearly not performed. For example, if I play
the video and at the same time change slide, the video continues to play
on top.

I am using
Ubuntu 18.04.1
Evince 3.28.4
texlive 2017.20180305-1
kernel 4.15.0-46-generic

[Bug 1772677] Re: gnome-shell filling up syslog with thousands/millions of entries with stack traces ending in osdWindow.js (lines 206/207 in bionic, lines 223/224 in cosmic)

2019-03-11 Thread Giampiero Salvi
I had the same issue, followed David's instructions, but I still get a
rapidly expanding syslog file when I lock the screen. I am running
Ubuntu 18.04.02 with gnome shell 3.28.3, dual monitor and intel
graphics.

Something I can see is that when locked the screens are first turned to
black, then they go in sleep mode, and then they suddenly come back to
life, without any input. The continue these steps cyclically. My
interpretation is that the asynchronous sleep mode between the two
screens triggers a change in resolution that wakes the screens up and so
on. But I can't confirm that.

[Bug 1812593] Re: gnome-shell[3159]: JS ERROR: Exception in callback for signal: activate: Error: Error invoking IBus.set_global_engine_async: Expected function for callback argument callback, got und

2019-03-11 Thread Giampiero Salvi
Hi,
I believe my problem is related to this bug report. I am running Ubuntu 18.04.2
with GNOME 3.28.2, intel graphics and dual screen. The /var/log/syslog file
keeps on expanding out of control. I believe this is happening when the screen
is locked. If the screen is locked for a long time, it is impossible to unlock
it (it becomes kind of frozen). Eventually, the syslog file fills the whole
disk (it grows well beyond 100 GB) and the system does not boot any longer.
Also when the screen is locked the system keeps on cycling between turning on
and off the monitors.

As far as I can tell from gnome-shell-extension-prefs (I am new to
Gnome), I do not have any active extensions.

Here are some examples from the log files:

[Bug 626142] Re: evince will not launch external programs in presentation mode

2011-12-08 Thread Giampiero Salvi
Hi,
this bug was fixed in evince 3.0.2.
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/evince/3.0/
I built this version of evince from source on Ubuntu 11.04 x86_64 without
problems. Do you think you could include a deb package in the apt repositories
for Ubuntu 11.04?

Thank you!
