[Bug 2043609] Re: 24.04 install (UK keyboard) is showing United States in 'Your Account' section of control center when keyboard is UK.
I could reproduce it. The old installer makes use of the time zone location to "guess" the desired locale, but that is apparently not the case with the flutter based installer (at least not for the English variants). Thanks for your report. The "Language for menus and windows" setting shows which locale is used to determine the display language. That's unrelated to the keyboard layout for typing. As regards the failed autopkgtest on amd64, it's reasonably not related to the proposed change, since also version 44.0-2ubuntu4 fails now (unlike before the 23.04 release). [Bug 1993900] Re: "Switch input sources individually for each window" does not work when a keyboard layout is selected using the mouse
@Fedon: I think this is an issue which should be better reported to GNOME upstream. But gnome-control-center is probably not the correct project, since gnome-control-center just sets the dconf value in question, while the problem is that that value is no longer honored in x11 sessions. [Bug 2003581] Re: Mouse keys fails to work after a restart
This comment is a guess, and I may be completely wrong, but I wonder if this happens in Ubuntu on Xorg only. If so, it may be related to the fact that ibus wasn't always automatically enabled at the start of the session. That issue was fixed in 22.04 via bug #2007379. [Bug 1987976] Re: firefox black window on wayland
Marco Trevisan submitted an upstream mutter merge request with a fix of this issue. I have applied it to the Ubuntu package through a PPA, installed the resulting binaries, and accomplished some tests: * I can no longer reproduce the issue with a black window when opening Firefox in wayland, not even after having run "killall Xwayland". * This sequence: killall Xwayland; sleep 3; GDK_BACKEND=x11 gedit results in a normal gedit window as far as I can tell. * I also entered an x11 session, and also there I can open Firefox without issues. So I uploaded mutter to the lunar unapproved queue for consideration by the release team. ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress => Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1987976 Title: firefox black window on wayland To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/1987976/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 2016918] [NEW] Firefox snap opens a black window on wayland
Public bug reported: This may actually be a duplicate of bug #1987976, but I was advised to file a new bug to get attention to this issue for the 23.04 release and consider a possible workaround. https://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2023/04/18/%23ubuntu-desktop.html#t17:42 In short: On a fresh 23.04 install, the first time in each wayland session I try to launch Firefox via the icon in the dock, it just opens a black window. I can close Firefox, and try again, and then it opens as expected. I'd better mention that I have a NVIDIA card, but the issue is present both with the NVIDIA and the Nouveau driver. While it might be some kind of race condition (not everyone is affected), in my case it happens every time. I have a proposed workaround: use the xrefresh command. That could for instance be done with this file: $ cat /etc/xdg/autostart/firefox-snap-launch-xwayland.desktop [Desktop Entry] Name=Launch Xwayland on startup of wayland session Comment=This allows to start the Firefox snap from the dock without a black window Type=Application Exec=sh -c 'if [ "$XDG_SESSION_TYPE" = "wayland" ]; then xrefresh; fi' TryExec=xrefresh OnlyShowIn=GNOME; NoDisplay=true That idea isn't new. If I install ibus 1.5.28-2 from experimental on Debian, there is no code point issue. [Bug 2012788] Re: Entering Unicode characters with code points broken
Yes, Heinrich, on the surface this seems to be an ibus issue. But I think the root cause lies in some package which ibus is built with. If I downgrade to the binaries built by ibus 1.5.28-1 on February 23, using code points works fine. In 1.5.28-2 two upstream commits were added as patches, but if I now build ibus with those patches disabled, it doesn't help. A no-change rebuild does not help either. Given the version you actually are on, instead I would suggest that you reinstall im-config: sudo apt-get install --reinstall im-config That's because the error message indicates that the installation of im- config is not complete. [Bug 1720250] Re: im-config configuration ignored with gdm3
@Tigran: It struck me that /etc/profile.d/input-method-config.sh is an ancient file. Yes, it was introduced in 2017 due to this bug as a fix or workaround, but it was dropped long ago. If you are on an Ubuntu version > 20.04, you can safely just remove it. So how could that happen? My guess is that you at some point of time took a shortcut when upgrading your Ubuntu version. You seem to have switched from some version before 20.04 directly to some version after 20.04. Skipping an LTS like that is not a supported upgrade path, and may result in issues like this one. Yeah.. That "Couldn't get locale for language: (null)" warning comes from a patch which I wrote initially, and first I feared that the segfault is related to that. But it's not. I committed a fix which will get rid of the warning in this situation: https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/gnome-control- center/-/commit/53e9a9a2 But it still segfaults. For some reason it fails to fetch the user data properly. [Bug 2008279] Re: glib2.0 2.75.3-3 breaks text input for Firefox & Chromium snaps
@Jeremy: I figured out the nature of the issue you originally reported in this bug. With this combo: $ dpkg-query -W libglib2.0-0 gnome-settings-daemon gnome-settings-daemon 44~beta-1ubuntu1 libglib2.0-0:amd64 2.75.3-3 and as long as no IBus IM has been added to the list of input sources, you can successfully run the Firefox snap in a wayland session. I.e. with that upstream gnome-settings-daemon commit reverted. If you had tried an x11 session, you'd have found that the reversal didn't help (because of im-config 0.55-1). And if you had added some IBus IM (and re-logged in), you'd likewise have found that the reversal didn't help. What does help in all cases ATM is to downgrade the glib2.0 packages to 2.74. So somehow the snaps need to be able to talk with ibus also when glib2.0 2.75 is present. ** Tags removed: update-excuse -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2008279 Title: glib2.0 2.75.3-3 breaks text input for Firefox & Chromium snaps To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/+bug/2008279/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

ibus in lunar-release was built against glib2.0 2.74.5-1. I tried a no- change rebuild of ibus against glib2.0 2.75.3-3, but it didn't help. [Bug 2008279] Re: xsettings ibus commit broke text input for Firefox & Chromium snaps
Hmm.. Suddenly I could no longer type in the address bar of the Firefox snap. [Bug 2008279] Re: xsettings ibus commit broke text input for Firefox & Chromium snaps
Please disregard my "couldn't login" talk in the previous comment. I was confused. Not the first time in history, and not the last. So: The version in my PPA (including that upstream g-s-d commit) works fine for me on my regular lunar install. I can type in the address bar in both the Firefox and the Chromium snap. It also lets me revert the latest im-config change, and it still works on x11 without the issue described in bug #2007379. As expected, in other words. (My VirtualBox "can't login to x11" issue is still there, though. But that's another story.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2008279 Title: xsettings ibus commit broke text input for Firefox & Chromium snaps To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/2008279/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 2008279] Re: xsettings ibus commit broke text input for Firefox & Chromium snaps
I built g-s-d in a PPA with the revert reverted: https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/gnome-settings- daemon/+packages On wayland I see no difference; everything works as expected. Also with a fresh lunar install in VirtualBox. But my observations on Xorg with my regular install was a bit surprising. With im-config 0.55-1 present (i.e. GTK_IM_MODULE set to "ibus"), I do not notice any problems with the upstream g-s-d commit. I can type in the Firefox address bar — also in Chinese. But if I revert the latest im-config change, so nothing sets GTK_IM_MODULE, I can't even log in to "Ubuntu on Xorg". So my first theory seems to be very wrong, and rather the opposite is true: The upstream g-s-d commit works for me *only* if also GTK_IM_MODULE is set to "ibus". As regards the VirtualBox fresh install: Couldn't log in to x11 now either. (And this time I used the version of VirtualBox from lunar- release.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2008279 Title: xsettings ibus commit broke text input for Firefox & Chromium snaps To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/2008279/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 2008279] Re: xsettings ibus commit broke text input for Firefox & Chromium snaps
Wow.. This is "interesting". Compare this with bug #2007379, where we work around the problem which the now reversed upstream g-s-d commit tries to address. (I wasn't aware of this upstream move.) im-config 0.55-1 is already in lunar-release. Can the fact that im- config now sets GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus be the reason why the upstream commit didn't work out well? Would that g-s-d commit possibly work for us with GTK_IM_MODULE unset? I think this is worth to investigate. At least the g-s-d commit is the right idea. As regards the recent im-config change, I suppose it's motivated in both jammy and Debian 12. (And also in lunar unless we figure out how to avoid the regression you describe in this bug.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2008279 Title: xsettings ibus commit broke text input for Firefox & Chromium snaps To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/2008279/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 2008279] Re: xsettings ibus commit broke text input for Firefox & Chromium snaps
** Description changed: While preparing the gnome-settings-daemon 44 Beta update for Ubuntu 23.04, I noticed that I could no longer enter text in the address bars for the Chromium or Firefox snaps. Therefore, I reverted https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-settings- daemon/-/commit/27bc0889c so that we could continue with the update. See https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/gnome-settings- - daemon/-/commit/baeeed + daemon/-/commit/baeeed93 Before I did that, I tested disabling our patches but it didn't make a difference. I was unable to reproduce the issue on Debian Testing but there may have been differences in how snap was configured there. I'm filing this bug since ideally we would not be diverging from upstream here. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2008279 Title: xsettings ibus commit broke text input for Firefox & Chromium snaps To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/2008279/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
