[Bug 175233] Re: Evolution hangs with Formatting Message after several hours
I confirm the workaround presented by Seb: I disabled photographs in the message preview and had no more 'Formatting message' deadlocks (Edit - Preferences - Mail Preferences - Headers - Show the photograph of sender in the message preview). [Bug 372132] Re: Create Document Templates difficult to use
I feel compelled to give my 2cents: As an experienced computer user it took me 3 years to figure out the meaning of the 'Template' folder in my home directory (since I don't read manuals/documentation as nobody does - except the developers when writing them) - see comment #53. Ok, I did not really investigated what it is for (you know, searching through the web and suddenly 2 hours went by) but I always wondered: 'What the heck is this folder and why is it there? Can I safely remove it? Or does it come back then? Or even worse, are things broken then? The obvious way of putting a file named with the Template name into this directory seemed ways to easy for me. My fault though I think a common one. Therefore I think providing the most common file types as templates (Writer, Calc...) is really important. If I then browse through my home directory and open the Template folder I see some files and maybe can figure out for what they are. By now, I've added templates for scripting and much more and like it. Especially that I can define a template file with execution bit set (and shebang of course). The current situation: an empty directory in my home dir and and empty submenu is not satisfactoring or user-friendly. -- Create Document Templates difficult to use https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/372132 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 322909] Re: future gnome-volume-control has many use case regressions with move to Pulse Audio
IMHO, regardless this is caused by hardware or not, the behaviour of Pulseaudio's volume control is too complicated. It is not clear which tracks are controlled and in what order. After upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10 sound and media keys worked out of the box (good job for this). However, the volume control using the gnome-applet resp. media keys was, let's say weired. Pulseaudio lowered the master volume first, then the PCM channel and the headphone channel (which I use as output) last. This resulted in a nearly constant volume level over the whole volume range (in the gnome panel) - not linear variying or something similar. It tooks me several hours of investigations to find the solution proposed above. I set the Master and PCM channel to 'ignore', set the desired levels in 'alsamixer' and everything is nice. This must be simplified by adding a graphical interface or emphasizing the Pulseaudio documentation. Especially beginners go crazy with such issues. -- future gnome-volume-control has many use case regressions with move to Pulse Audio https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/322909 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 25931] Re: Failed to initalize HAL.
I experienced this behaviour today (2009-01-19) on Ubuntu 8.10: everything worked for me after the dist-upgrade some time ago. But, today I accidentally disabled the 'dbus' service within the services-admin tool. The X server was restarted automatically and I was not able to login anymore. The cursor was blinking but no mouse or keyboard was usable. Switching to a shell by Alt+F6 was possible. Here I manaully started the dbus service and I could login again. So, I opened the services-admin tool to re-enable the dbus service, rebooted the machine...and was not able to login. Same thing as before. I tried re-installing dbus, hal, system-tools-backends...no results.
