Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: evolution
Hi,
Version: Ubuntu 10.10.
Evolution version: 2.30.3
Email address: jeremy.thomps...@btinternet.com
Evolution worked perfectly for me for a few years. However, I was
adding another account such that I POP mail from one account and send
mail via my own SMTP account. The sending process asked me for a
password. I eventually realised it needed my own btyahoo PW. However,
it never verified that password.
I deleted the new account and re-entered my own account. A friend also has
Evolution, and my set up matches his.
From then on, I have been able to read emails no problem. However, it no
longer sends emails. Doing a Send/Receive it keeps asking me for the PW. I
enter it but it always says Unable to authenticate to SMTP server. Bad
authentication response from server. Ie, it is totally reproducible.
I tried setting up my account on my other boot (MS Vista / Thunderbird
email client) and I could send and receive emails no problem. Thus I
have concluded it is a problem with Evolution itself, not my ISP.
If I can, I will re-download Evolution from its host to see if that will
work.
I will respond if it works or if it doesn't.
I apologise if it isn't a bug, but it is very frustrating:)
Thank you.
Jeremy Thompson.
