This problem appears to be associated with the Ubuntu Online Account

this bug.

2014-12-02 Thread Jim Nelson
The Yorba PPA is at https://launchpad.net/~yorba/+archive/ubuntu/ppa but
only has 0.20.2 for 14.04 (Trusty). Our Daily Build PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~yorba/+archive/ubuntu/daily-builds) has 0.20.2
for 14.10 (Utopic), but note the warnings at the top of the page about
that PPA.

[Bug 1382843] Re: corrupted double-linked list

2014-12-02 Thread Jim Nelson
As policy we don't release builds for same-version packages in Ubuntu's
repos to avoid name and version conflicts. (In other words, since
shotwell 0.20.2 is in the 14.10 repo, we don't release 0.20.2 for 14.10
in our PPA.) That decision is complicated with Ubuntu maintaining their
own fork w/ UOA for Shotwell, but it's just how it goes.

Another possibility would be to download the 0.20.2 tarball from GNOME,
build it, and run it directly from the build directory (that is, you
don't even need to install it). I know that's more painful but it would
give a way to test the issue.

[Bug 1335600] Re: Publishing to flickr broken since api.flickr went https-only

2014-08-27 Thread Jim Nelson
@Danny you're still using 0.18.0 which does not have the Flickr fix.
You'll need to upgrade to 0.18.1 for it. I don't know if Ubuntu plans
on backporting the fix to Trusty but a version for 14.04 is available at
Yorba's PPA, https://launchpad.net/~yorba/+archive/ubuntu/ppa

I suspect your issue with accounts has something to do with Ubuntu
Online Accounts, not Shotwell. Note that the version on our PPA does
not use UOA.

[Bug 1347321] [NEW] Blurred fonts in GtkPopover under Unity

2014-07-22 Thread Jim Nelson
Public bug reported:

I'm currently developing an application which uses GtkPopovers. It
works fine under GNOME Shell on Utopic 14.10 but under Unity text inside
the popover is blurry. I will attach screenshots indicating what I'm
talking about.

Oddly, the text inside a GtkButton displays fine. It's the text labels
elsewhere (GtkLabels, combo boxes, etc.) that are blurred.

[Bug 1314904] Re: Remote publishing does not work in GNOME/XFCE on trusty

2014-05-20 Thread Jim Nelson
So, first: If the users install ubuntu-online-account, does that fix the
problem for them? If so, we should communicate that to them.

As far as easy solutions, if adding back the dependency is off the
table, then my only other suggestion is to distribute an unmodified
version of Shotwell (or, at least, w/o the UOA plugins and w/
Shotwell's). I suspect that's also off the table, in which case I don't
have any suggestion other than more code changes, i.e. a warning dialog.

This sounds similar to bug #1314904 but I'm not sure.

If you run Shotwell from the terminal window like this:

and reproduce this problem, do you see errors listed, in particular:

Shotwell now uses system locale time formats, but unfortunately some of
the translation strings haven't been updated to match the speaker's
locale. I'm hoping that in a future release this will be improved.

[Bug 1318847] Re: shotwell shows incorrect time

2014-05-13 Thread Jim Nelson
This is an outstanding bug. For some reason the LP ticket was marked as
fixed (bug #1035067) although it was never fixed; Shotwell began using
locale-specific strings (which some translators haven't added,
unfortunately) but the 24-hour problem is a separate issue and not fixed
in Shotwell. See https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=716533

[Bug 659711] Re: shotwell Error: Directory NikonPreview with 8224 entries considered invalid; not read

2014-02-17 Thread Jim Nelson
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 662216 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/662216

Martin, please re-read my comment in #2. Although labelled as an error
by Exiv2, it is not an error in the sense that (a) Shotwell can still
import and view these photos, and (b) Shotwell (via Exiv2) can still
read the majority of the metadata in the photos. The NikonPreview
directory is a section of the metadata that is Nikon-specific and not
used by Shotwell.

[Bug 1270251] Re: package shotwell 0.15.0-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/shotwell/ui/collection.ui', which is also in package shotwell-common 0.15.0-0ubuntu1

2014-01-17 Thread Jim Nelson
In Saucy, Ubuntu split Shotwell up into a couple of packages -- shotwell
and shotwell-common. I'm not sure why they did that, but the .ui files
are in shotwell-common.

However, in Yorba's PPA, we simply have one package: shotwell, which
contains the .ui files. It may be that when you switch to or from our
PPA, you need to uninstall shotwell (and shotwell-common) before re-
installing from the other PPA. However, no one has reported this
problem so far, so I don't know why you'd be the first to see it.

On a side note, can you tell me what issue(s) you had with Geary, and
what version you were running?

[Bug 1202049] Re: shotwell SIGABRT, database_table_prepare_update_by_id assertion assertion failed: (res == Sqlite.OK)

2013-11-19 Thread Jim Nelson
I was able to reproduce this. The steps I took were:

* Add a lot of videos to my Shotwell library
* Delete all the Shotwell thumbnails (~/.cache/shotwell/thumbs)
* In the photo.db, I did UPDATE VideoTable SET is_interpretable=0

(Note: We never recommend users modify their Shotwell database file
directly. I only did this to repro the problem.)

When I ran Shotwell, I got the error seen above.

We'll be releasing a Shotwell 0.15.1 soon. I think this fix will be a
part of it.

[Bug 1222966] Re: shotwell crashed with SIGFPE in LibRaw::identify2()

This looks suspiciously like http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/3224, which
we closed two years ago because we received no further information from
the user.

Paul, I can't reproduce this problem with the JPEG you supplied. If you
drag-and-drop the file into Shotwell, does it crash for you? Or do you
have to import from the SD card? Was this JPEG associated with a RAW
file (i.e. P1020993.JPG along with P1020993.CR2)?

[Bug 1247895] Re: photo source file missing message with .orf

2013-11-04 Thread Jim Nelson
It may be that the version of gphoto2 you're using doesn't recognize
.orf files as RAW files. gphoto2 is the libray Shotwell uses to
communicate with cameras.

Do you have access to a newer version of Ubuntu (with a newer version of
Shotwell)?

If you connect the camera to your computer, is it available in Nautilus
as a mounted filesystem? If so, you should be able to copy the files
off of the camera onto your computer manually. If you import them to
Shotwell that way, are they available?

[Bug 1247895] Re: photo source file missing message with .orf

2013-11-04 Thread Jim Nelson
The other possibility (and the one I'm more leaning toward now) is that
LibRaw doesn't recognize the .orf files. LibRaw is the library Shotwell
uses to process RAW files.

You can import a newer version of Shotwell from our PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~yorba/+archive/ppa However, I don't know if this
alone will solve your problem, since the newer version of LibRaw is not
available there.

Your best bet would be to upgrade Shotwell and build and install the
latest LibRaw from http://www.libraw.org/. In fact, you might look at
http://www.libraw.org/download and see if your camera is listed as
supported before doing that.

You can also mail me a .orf file (j...@yorba.org) and I'll see if the
latest Shotwell supports it.

The bug report says you're using Shotwell 0.12.3 on Precise. Is that
correct? If so, you might consider subscribing to the Yorba PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~yorba/+archive/ppa). You can upgrade to 0.14.1
(unfortunately, the latest, 0.15, doesn't build on Precise).

I recall having some troubles with the toolbar in fullscreen mode being
fixed, so it's possible this will solve your problem.

Alas, this is a known problem. You'll need to uninstall Shotwell and

Your database won't be deleted if you uninstall. However, if you'd like

[Bug 1060586] Re: facebook publishing doesn't work

2013-08-06 Thread Jim Nelson
Isn't Mint 15 the latest release? If so, you could install the latest
version of Shotwell at our PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~yorba/+archive/ppa This version, however,
doesn't support Ubuntu Online Accounts.

If you want to try the absolute latest, there's also Yorba's Daily Build
PPA: https://launchpad.net/~yorba/+archive/daily-builds

[Bug 1088333] Re: After uploading to Facebook, via ubuntu tag has dead link

2013-07-15 Thread Jim Nelson
Ubuntu patched Shotwell to make it work with their Online Accounts
system, and this link is created by their plugin / Facebook application.
I've added that project to this ticket.

[Bug 1191585] Re: Crash when exporting photos to a directory

2013-06-20 Thread Jim Nelson
Remember that JPEG is compressed, and that in memory each pixel requires
24 bits (3 bytes). So, a 3000x3000 image is 25MB in RAM. Seventy of
them is 1.7GB.

In order to speed up the export, Shotwell uses background threads to
parallelize the process, uone thread per CPU. I suspect that's the
issue here -- too many export operations at once eating up a lot of RAM.

I forgot to mention before, I've ticketed your problem here:
http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/7115 We'll leave this open ... it
probably makes sense to reduce the number of background operations to
keep memory usage reasonable.

[Bug 1191585] Re: Crash when exporting photos to a directory

2013-06-17 Thread Jim Nelson
Thanks for the stack trace, that goes a long way toward finding the
problem. One question: if you run Shotwell from the console and
reproduce the problem, do you see a message displayed on the console,
something like raw pixbuf for filename could not be loaded?

[Bug 1190118] Re: shotwell crashed with SIGABRT in __assert_fail_base()

2013-06-12 Thread Jim Nelson
The stack trace shows this is happening inside of GStreamer. Shotwell
uses GStreamer when importing videos to obtain their metadata. It also
uses it to create thumbnails, but that happens in a separate process and
shouldn't crash Shotwell.

[Bug 1190018] Re: Shotwell shouldn't hard-depend on UOA

2013-06-11 Thread Jim Nelson
This has been a sore spot for us (well, maybe me in particular) for some
time now. I would very much like for Shotwell (and Geary, incidentally)
to be able to interoperate with whatever online account manager(s) the
user has installed. My rant is here: http://blog.yorba.org/jim/2013/02
