[Bug 2060575] Re: gnome-keyring fails to automatically unlock login keyring after recent updates in noble

2024-04-13 Thread Joseph Powell
Same issue on an MSI b350m bazooka Mobo with Ryzen 5600 and rtx 3090
(proprietary drivers, v550)

Fresh install of 24.04 beta

I believe this bug is related to render hangs and DE crashes I've been
experiencing at login. If the bug is circumvented by changing to a blank
password for the keyring, these render errors no longer occur.

[Bug 1995183] [NEW] saving an edited photo while the printer was shutting down

2022-10-29 Thread Joseph Hoyt Snyder
Public bug reported:

I have no idea what happened. I had started a print cycle only to find it was
out of one ink and I had no replacement, so I shut down the printer with the
file still in the cue. At the same time, I had just finished editing a photo
and was in the process of exporting when the fatal error came up. Sigh
lost all my good edits.

Same for me, I steel need MUTTER_DEBUG_USE_KMS_MODIFIERS=0 to get GDM/Mutter

I attach the result of journalctl -e (during failed session), in case it can be
useful ?

[Bug 1866974] Re: The Diffie-Hellman prime sent by the server is not acceptable

2020-06-09 Thread Joseph Dien
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1872778 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872778

Okay, well after entirely too much excitement, I made some progress.
After much googling, I found that this error message refers to a problem
with GNOME so one can get around it by going into console mode, which I
did with alt-shift-F3. I then was able to edit the config file and
worked out that the problem was that contrary to the appearance of the
example commands, the line starting with "default-priority" needs to all
be on one line. After I made that change, I was able to reboot back
into GNOME. With the security level lowered, the GNOME Online function
of the Settings app now worked! I am now fully able to get e-mail from
this account. Given how fraught this all was, may I suggest that
someone address this issue? Anyway, thanks for the help!

2020-06-09 Thread Joseph Dien
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1872778 ***

I tried to follow the instructions in #8. My computer is now bricked
with the message after login password of "Oh No! Something has gone
wrong. A problem has occurred and the system can't recover. Please log
out and try again."

I am not terribly linux savvy so I expect I did something wrong but no
idea what.

Can someone tell me how to save my computer?

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-05-05 Thread James Joseph
Also affected by this bug, running vanilla 20.04 with Nvidia standard
drivers

Nvidia version: 440.64

When turning on fractional scaling it defaults to 200% and zooms in on the
screen and I can't change it down to 125% or 150% at all.

My work around for now is just to use 1440p rather then 4k resolution.
Would be great to have this fixed in the future but it's not massively
impairing me.

[Bug 1822179] Re: Resuming from sleep breaks desktop and lock screen background in GNOME

2019-05-14 Thread JOSEPH BLESSINGH
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1809407 ***

I'm with Nvidia GTX 1050 along with Ubuntu 19.04. Same problem on my
side too. The desktop goes either blank or as if a Broken TV with white
and black dots except for a static picture of the white and black dots.

[Bug 1792424] Re: Left panel flickers like crazy during several seconds after deleting a bunch of files

2019-04-25 Thread Joseph
I believe that I found a "solution", I don't know what caused it. After
suffering with the problem for 2 weeks I discovered that emptying the
trash the terminal way solved it. It seems Nautilus was having issues
with something in the rubbish bin via the below command.

rm -rf ~/.local/share/Trash/*

Will post here again if the problem arises again.

[Bug 1792424] Re: Left panel flickers like crazy during several seconds after deleting a bunch of files

2019-04-22 Thread Joseph
I am also suffering from this problem when deleting images (I delete around 2k
and I can reproduce it immediately also). Occurs from network part of sidebar
down. I have a video to show the effect.

OS: Ubuntu 16.04
Nautilus version: 3.14.3
Architecture: Intel 64 bit
Current Desktop: Unity
Date: 23/04/2019
Trigger: Deleting large amount of files with delete key through nautilus.
Note: Goes away for a minute before returning without having to delete files
again.

[Bug 1792424] Re: Left panel flickers like crazy during several seconds after deleting a bunch of files

2019-04-04 Thread Cibin Joseph
Affects me too.

OS: Ubuntu 16.04
Nautilus version: 3.14.3
Architecture: amd64
CurrentDesktop: Unity
Date: Thu Apr 4 2019
Possible Trigger: Large amount of files in Trash folder and then executing
'Empty Trash'.
Note: Flickering occurs during the time files are being removed from the
~/.local/share/Trash folder and a large amount of files in the Trash folder
requiring longer times to remove probably makes it noticeable.

[Bug 1822610] Re: Scaling not persisted across reboots on Disco

2019-04-03 Thread Joseph Borg
No problem Sebastien.

This is Xorg (I have a 4k display the laptop that I'm running, that I
run Wayland on and scaling is fine).

It's one 4k monitor (if that's what you meant?).

[Bug 1822610] [NEW] Scaling not persisted across reboots on Disco

2019-04-01 Thread Joseph Borg
Public bug reported:

Using Xorg with Nvidia-412 drivers on 19.04. When running and apt
upgrade (inc the Nvidia driver), something seems to have updated that's
overwriting the Gnome settings scale option. I want this to be at 100%,
but it keeps going back to around 200% everytime I reboot. When I check
back in Gnome Setting to see the resolution, 100% is selected, so I have
to click 200% and then 100%, at which point it looks normal again.

System - XPS13 9370

To the best of my knowledge, this was working fine last week. I updated
the system via Apt, the system fails to resume after being suspended

the cursor appearing (still blank background) and then gnome crashes and
comes back to the login screen.

2018-11-19 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.20 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following

[Bug 1768754] [NEW] Applications are muted (silent) but system sounds work

2018-05-03 Thread Joseph Maillardet
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce this bug:

* Connect a laptop to a dock, which is connected to a screen with an HDMI /
DisplayPort cable.
* Then configure the sound to exit through the cable connecting the screen.
* Turn off the computer
* Take it out of the dock
* Turn on the computer

Then, the sound automatically switches to the audio output of the
laptop. System sounds work well, such as the bell of output volume
slider or the test speaker buttons “front left” or “front right”.
Unfortunately, no more applications can produce a sound.

Graphically, applications react normally, we can see their connections
with pulse audio in the applications tab of the sound settings. But no
sound comes out of the speakers.

Workaround :
* Connect an alternative audio output, such as a Bluetooth headset
* Select it in the “Choose a device for sound output:” option
* Switch back to the internal audio speakers
* Et voilà !

If it help, my laptop is a “HP Zbook G2” sometime connected to a “HP
2012 230W Docking Station”

Thank you for your attention.

[Bug 1766137] Re: [regression] Password accepted but login fails (blank purple screen and mouse pointer only)

2018-04-29 Thread Joseph Maillardet
Same here with a 18.04 upgraded from 17.10

Workaround :
* Hitting Alt+F1 return to GDM who complain about a “login fail” and ask
another time my password.
* Another successful password attempt finally launch Gnome correctly.

Side effect :
* Hitting Alt+F3,4,5,... give me ugly graphic mashup.

Try :
* Uncommenting the line bellow in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf file to use Xorg by
default don't change anything :
#WaylandEnable=false

Note :
* The blanked screen is always GDM, I don't see the top menu-bar but clicking
the right place show the GDM style system menu with only few option like
shutdown button and no user sub-menu
* I not obtain blank purple screen but grey screen because I choose original
Gnome CSS alternative...
`sudo update-alternatives --set gdm3.css
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/gnome-shell.css`

[Bug 1698083] Re: Middle-click titlebar actions (like maximizing vertically) don't work in Wayland sessions

2018-04-25 Thread Joseph Maillardet
Observation on Ubuntu 18.04 :
- All work good on Xorg session
- Problem only affect Wayland session
- Classic windows with traditional decoration (chromium, pidgin, inkscape, ...)
accept middle-click action
- GTK3 apps with Headerbar decoration who use CSD (Client Side Decoration)
ignores middle-click
- Don't know why, but Evolution 3.28.1-2 ignores middle-click too (but have
traditional decoration !)

Freedesktop talk about that since December 2016 :

2018-01-30 Thread Joseph Salisbury
It sounds like the kernel is ruled out as the cause of this bug. The
bug still happens with Xenial and 4.10 based kernels on Artful and the
bug didn't happen on Zesty or Xenial prior to upgrading to Artful. This
indicates something outside of the kernel.

If 17.04 did not exhibit the bug, it would be good to test one of the
Xenial kernels. If you still expierence the bug with this kernel and a
17.10 userspace, the cause might be outside of the kernel.

Can you test the following kernel on 17.10:

Also, can you boot back into a 17.04 kernel while on 17.10 to see if the
bug still exists or not? If you don't have a 17.04 kernel still
installed, you can get a 4.10 based Artful one from:

Just select your arch under the "Builds" section and install the linux-
image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

2018-01-30 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.15 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1725303] [NEW] Unity Search does not scale icons properly

2017-10-20 Thread Joseph Huber
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
Release:16.04

unity:
  Installed: 7.4.0+16.04.20160906-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 7.4.0+16.04.20160906-0ubuntu1

For application launcher files that specify and xpm or png file for an
icon, in a Unity launcher search window, the icon is not scaled
properly. In some cases, the icons are actually scaled larger. The
icons should be scaled to a size consistent with the other icons in the
window. Below are the desktop files for the large icons shown in the

[Bug 1400470] Re: cannot download photos using shotwell via usb

2017-08-25 Thread JOSEPH E CONNER
I use Ubuntu 17.04 64bit. I have this problem with my Canon 120IS. I do
not know how to "unmount" using nautilus as no icon appears to unmount.
A complete shutdown-restart did not see the camera until I had done this
several times. I tried several available usb ports. Funny, when I
initiate playback on the camera it does launch Shotwell. It is just that
Shotwell does not show the camera.

Re: [Bug 1695514] Re: Gnome shell 3.24 Gnome extensions not installing

2017-06-02 Thread Joseph Romano
Jeremy

I'd like to keep testing 17.10 and try to be of help by reporting bugs. I
sorted out the extension problem by deleting contents of /extensions and
reinstalling: open weather, show ip, panel extender, and places. I use
Chrome and Chrome Gnome Shell version 9. I haven't had any issues with
Chrome Gnome Shell specifically.

2017-03-29 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.11 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:

[Bug 792085] Re: Automatic remount of safely removed USB 3.0 drive

2017-01-12 Thread Joseph Salisbury
@flocculant, thanks for testing! I can submit and SRU request for both
Xenial and Yakkety.

Can anyone confirm that this bug does in fact affect Precise and/or
Trusty?

[Bug 792085] Re: Automatic remount of safely removed USB 3.0 drive

2017-01-04 Thread Joseph Salisbury
I built a test kernel for Xenial and Yakkety with the following commit:
37be66767e3c usb: hub: Fix auto-remount of safely removed or ejected USB-3
devices

The test kernels can be downloaded from:
Xenial: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp792085/xenial
Yakkety: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp792085/yakkety

Can someone affected by this bug test the kernels and see if they
resolve this bug? Precise and Trusty require some backporting, so I'll
review to see if any prereq commits are also needed for commit
37be66767e3c to apply.

Also, this commit was cc'd to upstream stable, so all supported upstream
stable kernels should get it.

[Bug 1641468] [NEW] systemd-resolve: fallback from resolve causes lookup of local network hosts to fail

2016-11-13 Thread Joseph Yasi
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Ubuntu 16.10 from 16.04, DNS resolution of hosts on
my local network fails.

The hosts line in /etc/nsswitch.conf is:
hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] resolve [!UNAVAIL=return]
dns mdns4

If I change it to:
hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4

I can resolve hosts on my local network. Appending .local to the
hostname also allows DNS resolution since systemd-resolve returns a
different error for that case.

Ex:
systemd-resolve rt-ac66u
rt-ac66u: resolve call failed: All attempts to contact name servers or networks
failed

systemd-resolve rt-ac66u.local
rt-ac66u.local: resolve call failed: No appropriate name servers or networks
for name found

"dig rt-ac66u" returns the correct ip.

@Darren, can you open a bug against the kernel? That will provide a
way to track this issue and review your hardware and configuration.

I can investigate this issue using that bug report. You can open a bug
by running the following from a terminal:

2015-12-10 Thread Joseph Salisbury
That looks okay, so it may be something else causing ubuntu-bug to fail.
Can you just open a bug using the Launchpad web interface, then I can
post in that bug how to collect the appropriate data.

You can open a bug by going to:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux

Then click "Report a bug"

Thanks

[Bug 1305335] Re: Cutting or copying files on btrfs to ecryptfs results in data loss

2015-02-20 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.19 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.
