[Bug 722278] Re: Evince print print preview garbled
Ah, thanks, that seems to be getting somewhere (and also explains why many people do not see this issue): --- libcairo2: Installed: 1.10.0-1ubuntu1~lucid~xorgedgers1 Candidate: 1.10.0-1ubuntu1~lucid~xorgedgers1 Version table: *** 1.10.0-1ubuntu1~lucid~xorgedgers1 0 500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1.8.10-2ubuntu1 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages --- I didn't realise that xorg-edgers might be providing a broken libcairo2. [Bug 722278] Re: Evince print print preview garbled
** Description changed: The attached PDF file, when printed using evince (or when previewed using 'print preview') leads to a bizarre scrambled output with characters not being positioned correctly. The second attachment is a screenshot of the preview window (the output when printed to a real printer is the same). Note the text at the bottom of the 1st page and on the 2nd page. I have tried to bring this down to a minimal example but I have this problem with many other PDF files as well. + Acroread prints and previews fine. + This is on Lucid with all latest updates applied. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/722278 Title: Evince print print preview garbled -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 293832] Re: printer prints page at wrong position, page cut
This still is a problem on Karmic. A default installation, with a Brother DCP7025 connected, activates the Brother DCP7025 driver. That one prints with the notorious offset. Installing brother-cups-wrapper-laser by hand and then selecting Brother DCP7025 for CUPS resolves the issue. [Bug 293832] Re: printer prints page at wrong position, page cut
Assuming you mean 'Scale to Fit', turning that one on does not resolve the problem. The problem occurs e.g. when printing PDF files from evince. I am reproducing this bug on jaunty, with cups-1.3.9-17ubuntu3.2. Downgrading to cups-1.3.9-17ubuntu3.1 resolves the problem. It does not seem to be brother-only, as the same problem occurred on a Samsung ML-1710 (with the Splix driver). [Bug 53184] Re: toggling show desktop setting fails
The show_desktop flag works (on Hardy) when a nautilus window is open. It's still perhaps a bit confusing. It would help if there was a preferences setting for 'show desktop' which would fire up nautilus if necessary (presumably this logic does not belong to gconf-editor). -- toggling show desktop setting fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/53184 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 49442] Re: gpm refuses to suspend to ram after some time
Yes, this problem is still there. It's tricky since it only occurs on one machine (all other Dapper machines work fine, but they have different hardware too, so it may be a driver issue somewhere which triggers a bug in gpm). In any case, I'm attaching a gpm log file in case that helps the debugging process. It contains some **WARNING** lines which perhaps help to pin down what's going on. I can't see anything very useful in the daemon.log (with hald output), but I'll attach that too. -- gpm refuses to suspend to ram after some time https://launchpad.net/bugs/49442 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 53984] hal cannot obtain list of devices
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: hal On my Fujitsu P7010, it regularly (but unpredictably) happens that hal fails to obtain the list of devices. I notice this because networkmanager stops working correctly and the machine does not want to go to sleep anymore (neither by closing the lid nor by doing it manually: since hal cannot figure out whether my machine can sleep, the option disappears from the quit dialog). When this situation occurs, a lshal gives me no output but a single error message, stating that it cannot obtain the list of devices. To make this even more bizarre: _sometimes_, after a while, lshal responds with the device list again, after which the whole system works again as normal. It happens more often, though, that I have to reboot the machine to get it back to a usable state. I _really_ would like to get this fixed, and am willing to do debugging on this side, but I have no idea where to start. Can someone please give me a hand? ** Affects: hal (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- hal cannot obtain list of devices https://launchpad.net/bugs/53984 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 49442] Re: gpm refuses to suspend to ram after some time
It just happened again. I re-opened the lid and typed lshal, which gave lshal: Couldn't obtain list of devices (typed from memory, might be slightly different). Now for the weird part: I then ran 'lshal -m', ctrl-c'ed it, 'lshal' again (no change), checked that lshald and dbus are running (they were). Then, upon one last try, 'lshal' now all of a sudden showed all the devices again! And suspending also worked again. -- gpm refuses to suspend to ram after some time https://launchpad.net/bugs/49442 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 49442] gpm refuses to suspend to ram after some time
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager After a fresh boot, suspending my laptop works fine (by closing the lid or by choosing suspend from the logout menu). However, after some time (I haven't yet been able to determine which actions triggers this problem), gnome-power-manager does not recognise anymore that I have allowed the machine to suspend. Closing the lid does nothing anymore, and when I choose 'logout' from the menu there is no option anymore to suspend the machine. Killing g-p-m and calling /etc/acpi/sleep.sh by hand still works, and the machine still wakes up fine after that, so it is definitely a g-p-m problem. Any suggestions on how to debug this further? ** Affects: hal (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- gpm refuses to suspend to ram after some time https://launchpad.net/bugs/49442 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 39856] Re: Panel in middle of the screen after reboot when not full-sized
Something similar happens when switching the panel to be on the left or right: 1. Setup panel to be 'top' and unset 'expand'. 2. Re-open panel properties. 3. Set location to be 'left' or 'right'. The panel now appears in the middle of the screen. Then do 4.
