[Bug 2012199] [NEW] nautilus crashes during search or bulk filename editing
Public bug reported: EVERY search or bulk file renaming action causes nautilus to crash immediately. All searches cause nautilus to crash immediately. No search ever comes through. Simple typing in the search bar, or as much as clicking on it causes nautilus to crash. Once multiple files are selected and Fn+F2 (Rename) action is selected, nautilus crashes even without allowing the rename dialog box to appear. Note that single file renaming still works. The crashed window gives the option to wait, but waiting never solves the problem, and I am always forced to restart nautilus after force- quitting. What is causing this problem? If this issue is not widespread enough to receive a bugfix, could the developers guide me with this. I find doing a fresh install risky because of lack of enough storage for a complete PC backup. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Package changed: grub-installer (Ubuntu) => nautilus (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2012199 Title: nautilus crashes during search or bulk filename editing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/2012199/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1867943] [NEW] Nautilus “Open Other Application” problem
Public bug reported: When using Nautilus and I right click on an image file I get a drop down menu, the first two items are “Open With *Default application*” and “Open With Other Application”. I use Mirage as my default application for image files. On one account when I right click on an image file and choose “Open With Other Application”, Mirage is the preselected application not “Image Viewer” which is my usual second choice. On another account Mirage isn’t preselected, “Image Viewer” is. This is the expected behavior. I used the "Properties"->"Open With" to select “Image Viewer” and set it as the default. But that didn't work, it went back to Mirage as the default. I tried setting other programs as the default the same way and none stuck, it always returned to Mirage. I went to Settings->Details->Default Applications and changed the “Photos” from Mirage to “Image Viewer”. That worked and when right clicking and selecting “Other Application” Mirage is preselected. As expected. When I changed Settings->Details->Default Applications->“Photos” back to Mirage the problem returned. Mirage is the default and the preselected “Other Application”. “Right click on an image file and select : 'Open With Other Application' Then right click on the application that you do not want to be on that menu. Click on 'Forget association'”. Worked on other programs but not on Mirage. Description:Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (beaver-osha X84) Release:18.04 Nautilus 1:3.26.4-0~ubuntu18.04.5 (from Software center) I expected Image Viewer to be the preselected Other Application. I got Mirage as the default application and the preselected “Other Application” I expected Mirage to be removed from the list when I clicked on “Forget association” What I got was Mirage would not go gently into the night I expected Mirage to accept not being the default application when using "Properties"->"Open With" to chose another application as the default. [Bug 1843201] Re: Unity in Wayland prompts for keyboard focus on each run of ssh-askpass-gnome
Thanks for looking into this, and the pointer. I guess, another option would be to not request shortcut inhibition, unless I'm misunderstanding its value? Unless there's a worry that some other application will be able to steal your password this way — it doesn't seem obviously warranted to me. For example, `ssh-askpass-fullscreen` does not generate this prompt. It isn't clear to me that the fullscreen-ness of this implementation materially changes the risk profile, so either shortcut inhibition isn't useful, or I should file a bug against `ssh-askpass-fullscreen` to either request this privilege or document the gap. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-desktop in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1843201 Title: Unity in Wayland prompts for keyboard focus on each run of ssh- askpass-gnome To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-desktop/+bug/1843201/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1787863] [NEW] gnome-control-center occasionally fails to launch after multiple tries
Public bug reported: Release: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Package Version: 1:3.28.2-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 Expected Behavior: Program should always launch upon request. Problematic Behavior: Attempting to launch this program causes the shell to display the loading indicator for an unusual amount of time, only to never display the program. Description: Upon launching this program through a terminal emulator, it never opens and never displays any output. Passing the verbose (-v) option with the program has the same result. When I launch it through the GUI, the shell displays the spinning circle (loading indicator) for an absurd amount of time. The program still does not open. This is a fresh install, so I restarted my computer. When launched again, the program opened and operated normally. However, upon closing the program and opening it again, it does not open up. Task management tools only show the process for a brief 3-5 seconds after requesting it to open and then it disappears. To my knowledge, this bug does not affect any other programs. Workaround: Entering the command killall gnome-control-center allows it to open again upon next launches. [Bug 1750197] [NEW] GUI Animations Cause Heavy CPU Spikes in Wayland & XOrg
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Release: 17.10 gnome-shell version: 3.26.2 System Theme: CommuniTheme Beta Upon navigating through various areas of the system, GUI animations are very stuttery. This heavily affects the CPU usage of my device. For instance, opening the shell app drawer displays a very janky animation, and my CPU will spike to nearly 85% for each open/close. This happens regardless of using XOrg or Wayland; however Wayland appears to have an overall lower impact on resource usage. The CPU in this laptop isn't the greatest (being a 2014 Celeron), but this is noticeably more sluggish compared to previous releases like 16.04 and 16.10. This same issue is still existent, but somewhat less noticeable on my other i5-6400 (GTX 1050) machine. Also, emulating this release in a VM with 2 CPUS and 4096MB of RAM renders it unresponsive for 3-5 seconds after opening/closing the app drawer. [Bug 1476364] [NEW] “systemd --user” instance can't find d-bus
Public bug reported: I have an executable I'd like to run as a user and that user should be able to start and stop that service without sudo. I have `systemd --user` always running for the user by running `loginctl enable-linger user` I've confirmed the `systemd --user` instance is running as that user using `ps` but when I try to run any `systemctl` command as that user, I get the following error: vagrant-ubuntu-vivid-64:~$ systemctl --user list-units Failed to get D-Bus connection: Connection refused Based on my googling it sounds like I should have a `dbus-daemon` instance running as that user but it is not. It should be noted I'm switching to the user with `su` so it may not be counting as a login. It seems that either: 1. My user instance of `systemd` should use the system instance of d-bus. 2. Ubuntu should somehow be starting a user instance of d-bus. On Gentoo, for example, there is a user instance of `dbus-daemon`. [Bug 1420601] [NEW] Systemd_218-6ubuntu1 and later cannot connect to network except via USB
Public bug reported: systemd_218-6ubuntu1_amd64.deb and later work ONLY with USB networking devices when booted from Dracut. Dracut network module is NOT in use, and binaries needed to connect to the network do not appear in my initramfs, yet systemd version loaded from it determines whether or not network can be connected. With an AMD Athlon II x4 machined and a Gigabyte AMD motherboard (785 series I think), I get the systemd networking unit entering a failed state, and the wired network cannot be turned on. On an Intel Atom Pine Trail netbook the wireless attempt to connect to the network but hangs on requesting an IP address from the router, never completing. Rolling back systemd to systemd_218-5ubuntu2_amd64.deb always fixes this and brings back normal network connectivity. Finally, an AMD bulldozer machine connected by a USB wifi device has no trouble at all with the newer builds of systemd. systemd_218-5ubuntu2_amd64.deb , which came out Jan 23, seems to be the last good version. Same upstream version of systemd, apparently just build-time changes caused this. I'm not sure if this bug will appear with a normal Ubuntu initramfs- tools initramfs (I use Dracut with systemd in the initramfs), but I bring this up because my /boot partition is not normally mounted (so as not to corrupt a monitored hash value) and which version of systemd is in the initramfs, not the version on disk, determines whether or not networking functions on my machines. I do understand my setup has diverged a lot from normal Ubuntu, someone should see if this problem exists in a normal Ubuntu install. If not I will need to find out what changed(possibly a udev rule?) and revert it myself in all later versions. I've been using systemd with dracut/systemd in the initramfs since last May, I now rely on it to run a parallelized version of my multi- encrypted disk unlocking program and am not about to revert it. Initramfs-tools seems to be unable to cope with multiple asynchrounous instances of cryptsetup, while dracut/systemd handles it just fine. ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: networking -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1420601 Title: Systemd_218-6ubuntu1 and later cannot connect to network except via USB To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1420601/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Your diff for raring doesn't appear to add gnome-keyring-bin as a dependency fo gnome-keyring. [Bug 1027338] [NEW] striking almost any key while focus is on Desktop crashes nautilus
Public bug reported: Using nautilus_1%3a3.5.4-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb in Ubuntu Quantal, striking any key that does not have a binding to another program attempts to invoke the search function of Nautilus, as it used to do when Nautilus is managing the desktop. Beginning with this update (which fixed a lot of other crashes and warnings), this has caused Nautilus to momentarily draw borders around the edge of the desktop, then crash. Tthe Desktop is essentially a nonchangable directory always displayed in fullsceen with a separate background, so I figured the search code is attempting to invoke functions not available to the Desktop display. I can fullscreen a normal Nautilus window and then strike a key, and the search box comes up normally, and the window remains fullscreened . These fullscreen windows still include menus and other elements not present on the desktop, so my guess is the Desktop can't find the appropriate GUI element for the search bar, drops OUT of fullscreen, then immediatley crashes, taking down all other Nautius windows that may be open but unfocussed in the process. Running Nautilus from a terminal, then striking a key while the focus in on the Desktop yields these error messages: nautilus Initializing nautilus-open-terminal extension nautilus-wipe-Message: Initializing (nautilus:9142): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed (nautilus:9142): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_get_device_events: assertion `GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed (nautilus:9142): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_get_device_events: assertion `GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed (nautilus:9142): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_get_device_events: assertion `GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed (nautilus:9142): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_get_device_events: assertion `GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed ** ERROR:nautilus-window-slot.c:73:sync_search_directory: assertion failed: (NAUTILUS_IS_SEARCH_DIRECTORY (directory)) Aborted ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1027338 Title: striking almost any key while focus is on Desktop crashes nautilus To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1027338/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 594674] Re: Trash is not shown on --bind mounted filesystems
A file in one partition, wherever mounted, cannot be moved to any location in another partition, as to place it on a different physical device or a partition of one means copying the file to that location, then deleting it from the original, not just attacking a new path to an existing physical location. If trash is a directory in any location, files can only be moved to and from it on the same device or partition as a direct result of this limitation. A fix for this would require code in a trash manager to copy to trash anything from a different device, deleting it on that device, then copy back to that device and delete from the trash to restore it. This is how one trash can, many devices would have to work. Needless to say, trashing any large file would require waiting for copying to complete, as would restoring it. Much of that and many users, especially on slow machines, may prefer separate trash cans for each device. Consider this result of using such code as proof of what I have just said: : Two empty devices, a file on one, trash on the other. If you could move the file to the trash on the other device, then empty trash, a file recovery utility would find TWO copies of the file, one on each device. Since partitions are effectively physical devices as well, that also applies to bind mounts from other partitions. I don't use the trash at all, instead creating a secure trash directory on each magnetic disk that is empted using nautilus-wipe, which does not work from the trash can. Flash drives are worse: they require normal deletion (can use trash) but have to be filled usinng dd to overwrite old files-still won't get everything if a block picks that moment to die and go read-only! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/594674 Title: Trash is not shown on --bind mounted filesystems To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/glib/+bug/594674/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 874563] [NEW] Thunderbird / Lightning not an option for calendar in Systems Settings - System Info - Default Applications
Public bug reported: Thunderbird / Lightning not an option for calendar in Systems Settings - System Info - Default Applications. The only option is gedit. When I open the indicator-calendar applet, and click on open calendar, the error message indicates that it tried to start Evolution, which is not installed on my system. Both Lightning and Messaging Menu for Unity Launcher Integration thunderbitd add-ons are installed via Ubuntu packages. Also, the calendar widget doesn't seem to be picking up my calendar-appointments, though it has worked at times in the recent past. Re: [Bug 603415] Re: Accessibility keybindings don't work
The best solution for users of magnificatino in Oneiric is the COmpiz eZoom plugin, however it does not have focus tracking support, and does not magnify any parts of Unity, i.e the panel, dash, and laucner all stay the same size, whilst the rest of the user's desktop is magnified. We don't have anything for users who do not have supported/working 3D hardware. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/603415 Title: Accessibility keybindings don't work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-control-center/+bug/603415/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 793216] Re: Brasero hangs when trying to burn mpeg4 file to DVD as NTSC

[Bug 843293] [NEW] Wishlist: Hover-browse when dragging files
Public bug reported: I wish that Nautilus would implement a hover-browse feature, similar to that in Mac OS X. Here's how it works: 1. I start dragging (copy or move) a file or directory 2. I hover the mouse for a predetermined interval (2-5 seconds) over a Place or a folder. 3. Nautilus automatically browses to the folder. Process repeats for any sub-folders that I choose. A Sproing sound is appropriate auditory feedback. 4. I release the mouse button. 5. The copy begins. 6. Nautilus returns to the original path. A system that implements this well: Finder in Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Alternatives / Workarounds: 1. The Extra Pane in Nautilus. 2. pushd and popd in bash. The existing Nautilus GUI is fully usable with the Extra Pane and/or with Tabs, so this really is just a wishlist request. However, I've been using the Mac OS X GUI a lot lately, and so I'm accustomed to this feature and I like it. It seems like an intuitive way to move files around. Also, if you're sitting there wondering if you should drop a file into a particular folder or Place, revealing its contents seems like just the information you'd need to make the dscision.
