[Bug 491821] Re: [FFE] Bring back setting for visual system bell

2010-08-20 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
Debdiff attached.

I'm requesting a Feature Freeze Exception for the benefit of improving
Ubuntu's accessibility to users with hearing impairments.

The package builds in pbuilder and installed without issue on my
Maverick VM. I tested it by both watching the value of
/apps/metacity/general/visual_bell change as I toggled the checkbox in
the System - Preferences - Accessibility window and hitting backspace
repeatedly in a gnome-terminal while the setting is enabled. The visual
bell activated as expected.

The patch is almost exactly the same as a similar patch in
debian/patches/ already (#100), except with different names for the
widgets and different gconf keys.

It's marked as fixed in Hardy and Intrepid. You're saying it exists in
Karmic now too? When you say totally fresh, do you mean you do or don't
have updates installed? If it was this bug coming back, it shouldn't
take a month either. It should immediately break as soon as you opened
a folder in any application other than Nautilus. Do you fit that
completely reproducible test case? If not, open a new bug.

[Bug 181244] Re: libcdio GPL/license violation

2010-01-14 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
For gst-plugins-ugly0.10:
The COPYING file in
http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/src/gst-plugins-ugly/gst-plugins-ugly-0.10.13.tar.gz
and in the package in Lucid and the debian/copyright in Lucid all agree that
the license is LGPLv2.1+

For libcdio:
The COPYING file in http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/libcdio/libcdio-0.82.tar.gz and in
the package in Lucid and the debian/copyright in Lucid all agree that the
license is GPLv3+

If you believe that the FSF does not have the right to choose the GPLv3+
license for libcdio, please take this up with them. Getting it changed
there will trickle down to all distros instead of you having to ask many
individual distros to make changes to the copyright files distributed
with their packages.

IANAL, so no comment on GPLv3+ interaction with LGPLv2.1+

Re: [Bug 217270] Re: seahorse does not recognize seahorse-agent/ssh-agent as a caching agent

2009-04-04 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
I *think* if you change the numbers in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/ that'll do it.
The lower numbers start first, higher numbers start last. Seahorse-plugins is
by default a lower number, so it should be starting first. If you have use-
agent in your gpg.conf this *may* vary.

The hacky way:
In your GNOME session autostart, have it kill gpg-agent and ssh-agent, then
start the ones you want.

[Bug 200775] Re: Add a percentage does not work

2009-03-01 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
I'm not disputing the invalidity of this, but I just wanted to point out
that while % really does act as a percentage, you're confusing English
and Mathematics. In Mathematics, 17.5% means 17.5/100, so that's 100 +
(17.5/100). If you want to do 100 plus 17.5 per cent of 100 the of
is the same as times so that's: 100 + 17.5% * 100

Re: [Bug 217270] Re: seahorse does not recognize seahorse-agent/ssh-agent as a caching agent

2009-02-12 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
Seb, I'm using Jaunty. I created a new user. As soon as that user
logged into GNOME for the first time (really, I think it was as soon as
the gnome-session started seahorse-agent) that user's gpg.conf was
edited to say:
# FILE CREATED BY SEAHORSE

Just that comment and a blank line. That means a conflict when GNOME
and KDE are both installed. gpg-agent won't run in KDE then, and so
KMail can't sign emails (KMail cannot use seahorse-agent which will in
this case automatically run since gpg-agent isn't).

Re: [Bug 217270] Re: seahorse does not recognize seahorse-agent/ssh-agent as a caching agent

2009-02-12 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
Seb I talked to Adam again.

Seahorse adds gpg.conf if it does not exist when seahorse-agent runs.
Seahorse's caching preferences set use-agent in gconf but not in the
file.

KMail and Evolution *both* claim bad passphrase if I use
seahorse-agent inside KDE. Evolution additionally uses 98% CPU for
about a minute before even bringing up the password prompt.
Seahorse-agent is definitely not playing nice inside KDE sessions.

Adam said he thinks telling the caching preferences to automatically
make gpg.conf match gconf should fix it. I took that to mean he's going
to try it.

2009-02-12 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
gnome-keyring-daemon and ssh-agent share a purpose
seahorse-agent (s-a) and gpg-agent (g-a) share a purpose

The first on each line to start wins.

gnome-keyring-daemon means we have pretty passphrase boxes and the
password is remembered, unlike ssh-agent.

seahorse-agent...I don't see any advantages over gpg-agent, unless the
fact that Evolution + s-a lets you choose whether to save the passphrase
counts. Evolution + g-a, when used inside KDE, uses a KDE passphrase
box and always stores the passphrase (I wish it didn't). I haven't
tried Evolution + s-a in GNOME.

[Bug 304565] Re: seahorse issues in trust functions

2008-12-09 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
Wait...I can't reproduce this in Intrepid.

If I do any of the following, the same window comes up:
- Right-click - Sign
- Sign button on toolbar
- Right-click - Properties - Trust - Sign this Key

That window asks how carefully the key has been checked. It does not
have any requirements on checking the key, so there is no inconsistency.

Nowhere in Seahorse do I see I have verified that this key is owned by
USER at all. The Trust tab's only checkbox is I trust signatures
from on other keys. Checking that checkbox is not a requirement
to hit the Sign this Key button next to it.

Either it changed between 8.04 and 8.10 or the Italian translation is
wrong. Trying to see in #ubuntu-it if anyone can translate the current
one to see if it changed.

Re: [Bug 99015] Re: shuffle doesn't work in queue

2008-11-12 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
This bug has been sent upstream to GNOME, where we're sort of trying to
convince them that it's a queue, it shouldn't be allowed to be
shuffled! is extremely annoying to users that want songs to play only
once, in a random order, and then disappear...since playlists can't do
that once, then disappear thing. Can you pop your head in upstream
and add a I want this too comment?
