[Bug 1998716] Re: [raspi] Ubuntu 22.10 does not turn off monitor
It appears this issue is also being tracked upstream [1]. The issue was fixed by adding firmware code that powers off the HDMI port, which in turn causes most monitors to go into suspend mode and turning off [2]. The fkms driver was modified to make use of that firmware feature [3]. Since I can't reproduce the issue, I can't verify this myself, but my assumption would be that the issue does not present itself when the fkms overlay is being used. With regards to the full kms driver, I don't see how this could be fixed, considering that using a firmware feature is required. So as far as I can see, if using the fkms driver is not an option, there is nothing we could do to solve this issue. [Bug 1774188] Re: Unlocking the screen takes 5 seconds in Xorg sessions (not so much in Wayland sessions)
It happens to me also. Fresh install of Lubuntu 18.04, fully updated, on an HP Pavilion g6. Whenever the screen is locked (either manually choosing to lock it, or automatically after X amount of time without using it), it will take many seconds just to simply draw the password dialog. But if I switch to the terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F1, then back to the X-Window "terminal", it will draw a text telling me that it will take a few seconds to show me the password dialog ??!! That message then disappears into a black screen, and more than twenty seconds later, finally the password dialog shows up. The laptop was doing nothing, completely idle... this shouldn't happen. ** Also affects: gdm Importance: Undecided Status: New ** No longer affects: gdm -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774188 Title: Unlocking the screen takes 5 seconds in Xorg sessions (not so much in Wayland sessions) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1774188/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1800924] [NEW] Ubuntu Software - can't reach home page
Public bug reported: this happens reliably on my Ubuntu 18.10. repro: - open Ubuntu Software, the user is prompted with the "home" page (featured apps, categories, editor's picks and so on) - select any application, eg. Slack (no need to install it) - close the Ubuntu Software window - re-open Ubuntu Software, the Slack page is displayed the issue is that the user is now "stuck" on the Slack page since there is no easy way to get back to the home page (see screenshot): - click on the "back" button (top left corner), nothing happens - there is no link/command/menu to the home page - there is no search button the only workaround I'm aware of is: - hit the search shortcut - search for a random string - finally the All/Installed/Updates menu is displayed, so the user can click on "All" to get back to the home page ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.10 Package: ubuntu-software 3.30.2-0ubuntu7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.18.0-10.11-generic 4.18.12 Uname: Linux 4.18.0-10-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia wl ApportVersion: 2.20.10-0ubuntu13 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Wed Oct 31 21:55:09 2018 InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-10-19 (11 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.10 "Cosmic Cuttlefish" - Release amd64 (20181017.3) InstalledPlugins: gnome-software-plugin-flatpak N/A gnome-software-plugin-limba N/A gnome-software-plugin-snap3.30.2-0ubuntu7 PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: gnome-software UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug cosmic ** Attachment added: "the user is stuck on this screen" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1800924/+attachment/5207643/+files/Screenshot%20from%202018-10-31%2022-14-00.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1800924 Title: Ubuntu Software - can't reach home page To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1800924/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 60448] Re: .xsession-errors file grows out of control saturates disk space
Someone already did, and it is called journald: http://0pointer.net/blog/projects/journalctl.html Recent versions of gdm, kdm and dbus already use the journald by default to replace .xsession-errors, and thus avoid all these problems. I guess we only have to wait for Ubuntu to catch up to Fedora and OpenSuse. [Bug 1024800] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 switches to Chinese language
I had the same problem after a fresh install of a 32-bit ubuntu 12.04. With the hints mentioned by the original poster the language can be restored, but in my case the language change came back multiple time which was really annoying. I figured that apparently there is an automatically installed and non- removable entry of Chinese in the Keyboard Layout config menu in system settings. If you just open this config menu, click through all the tabs and return to the language tab, the first entry of the list will be selected, which is Chinese if you haven't installed any other language alphabetically listed before. Thus the bug seems to be connected to the Keyboard Layout config dialog which wrongly selects the first entry instead of the currently set language. Workaround: Avoid the Keyboard Layout config dialog or if you have to use it, always make sure you mark your preferred language in the list under the Language tab before closing the dialog. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1024800 Title: Ubuntu 12.04 switches to Chinese language To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/1024800/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 962860] Re: The prompt for installing MP3 playback support dialogue box does not fit in a 1024x600 display
Fixing the bug by changing the text is not the correct way. What is happening here is that the label is not wrapping which makes the frame be too big. If we changed the text we would just be fixing the eng version (I do agree that the proposed text is better). I propose to fix the bug by making the text wrap which will ensure that the widget uses the correct size and will be fix the issue for all langs. Also, doing that will not require a UIFe because we are talking about a bug and we are not being a PITA to the translators. You can see an attachment with the image of the new wrappig version (background) and the old one. I have also added a branch with the fix which the u1 team will ensure that lands following the correct paper work. ** Attachment added: Example of the widget running as in trunk and with the proposed fix (background) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/962860/+attachment/3093064/+files/u1-music.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/962860 Title: The prompt for installing MP3 playback support dialogue box does not fit in a 1024x600 display To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libubuntuone/+bug/962860/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 969143] Re: Brightness bar is inverted in gnome settings
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem No particular actions required to reproduce the problem. It's always reproducible in a fresh ubuntu 11.10 installation or 12.04 installation, with unity / gnome / xfce desktop environment, when the system has a backlight panel available (laptop). 2. the behavior you expected Brightness should remain the same value after entering screen option in system settings. 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible) Brightness is toggling to its inverted value when entering screen option in system settings. Provided an example: set brightness to 70%. Then enter screen option in system settings and it becomes 30%. Go back without changing the value and enter again. It's 70% now. And so on. [Bug 517021] Re: gvfsd-metadata causes 100% CPU usage
Bless you Mucku! My disk is not full but I started to get kernel error messages whenever I browsed with nautilus (Not with Thunar) one particular disk partition (1.8TB) and moving a tiny file from a directory to another would take ages. Removing ~/.local/share/gvfs-metadata solved the problem! :-D This bug deserves a fix by the gvfs developers. [Bug 795871] Re: nm-applet crashed with SIGSEGV in g_hash_table_foreach()
Hi, I would like to share some informations with you related to this bug. I am working on Ubuntu 11.04 and I reproduce the bug not directly with the nm-applet but in a different context when I try to link a basic QT application with an other library (in my case the Orfeo ToolBox library). Basically, the declaration of a QApplication app(argc, argv) linked with an other library provoke the same crash with SIGSEGV in g_hash_table_foreach(). Note that if I call the program through a remote terminal (with ssh for example) the problem does not appear. I'm really stuck in finding from where the problem can come from. I'll be interested if you have information on how this bug was solved in the case of the nm-applet (I saw similar problems with other Ubuntu applications like empathy, ekiga but I didn't find really informations on where the problem comes from (the shared library? glib? Qt?...) Thank you in advance. the corresponding backtrace: 0x7fffe76c5a00 in ??
