[Bug 2060575] Re: gnome-keyring fails to automatically unlock login keyring after recent updates in noble

.config/user-dirs.dirs is rewritten at boot and logout/login and xdg- user-dirs-update after correcting the file and logout/login does not re- create the folders. It's not nautilus-dropbox since removing it does not stop the error from occurring. Attaching a log from a boot where before rebooting I had corrected user-dirs.dirs. When I logged in, my changes were gone and the folders were again links to themselves. [Bug 1288655] Re: Terminal height shrinks - repeatedly restored shorter than the previous height
Another surprising observation: Wayland seems to work just fine for me, it's only X11 that has the maximization shrinking bug. 'headerbar' can be true or false on Wayland with 22.04. I tried it on two different installs with the same behavior. Okay then. I guess I'll use Wayland. [Bug 1288655] Re: Terminal height shrinks - repeatedly restored shorter than the previous height
@peterx14 I did a few more experiments. One needs a new gnome session altogether for the 'headerbar' false change to work. I tried this a few times to confirm. Just killing all the terminals is not enough. However, when I login/out or kill gnome-session to restart the session manager, the problem is fixed. [Bug 1706770] Re: Lock screen can be bypassed when auto-login is enabled.
This issue is caused by the Users and Groups utility which is part of `gnome-system-tools`. When changing the password from "Asked on logon" to "Not asked on logon" the user is added to the `nopasswdlogin` group and this is what causes the switch-user screen to not ask for a password. If you select the option to not require a password to login during installation, it is not possible to bypass authentication when switching users. This is because `autologin-user` is set to your username in `/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf` and that works correctly. `gnome-system-tools` was originally included in Ubuntu MATE because it offers user and time management features. But it can now be removed from the Ubuntu MATE default install because recent versions of MATE Control Center provide user and time management. ** Changed in: ubuntu-mate-meta (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => In Progress ** Summary changed: - Lock screen can be bypassed when auto-login is enabled. + Lock screen can be bypassed when auto-login is enabled via gnome-system-tools -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1706770 Title: Lock screen can be bypassed when auto-login is enabled via gnome- system-tools To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/arctica-greeter/+bug/1706770/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1960621] Re: MATE Desktop session fails to start with NVIDIA 495 & 510 drivers
I've built Metacity 3.42 for Ubuntu 21.10 with Xpresent support, which is behind a gsettings option that defaults to xrender. When Metacity is set as the required window manager in MATE with Xpresent set as the compositor the same failure to bring up a desktop session is encountered. I have also built Marco without Xpresent and as expected it fallsback to Xrender which works with the new NVIDIA drivers and also preserves compositor support. ** Summary changed: - Nvidia 510 drivers result in failure to start GUI on GeForce GTX 1050 Ti + MATE Desktop session fails to start with NVIDIA 495 & 510 drivers ** Also affects: metacity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: metacity (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: marco (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-510 (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: metacity (Ubuntu Jammy) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: marco (Ubuntu Jammy) Importance: High Assignee: Martin Wimpress (flexiondotorg) Status: Triaged ** Also affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-510 (Ubuntu Jammy) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Also affects: metacity (Ubuntu Impish) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: marco (Ubuntu Impish) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-510 (Ubuntu Impish) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** No longer affects: metacity (Ubuntu Focal) ** No longer affects: metacity (Ubuntu Impish) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1960621 Title: MATE Desktop session fails to start with NVIDIA 495 & 510 drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/marco/+bug/1960621/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1958166] [NEW] Nautilus not responding after unpacking and removing an archive
Public bug reported: Hi, I was unpacking a .tar.gz archive with the “extract here” button. Once unpacked (the progress bar on top right not only reached 100%, the dialogue box disappeared altogether), I removed the archive file. The unpacking was a success, and the extracted folder appeared on Nautilus, but Nautilus froze. Impossible to change tab, or to select any file in the current folder. Strangely enough, the window did not go black with a “Window not responding” message as they usually do in Gnome-shell: it just did not reacted to any of my input. I was able to open a new window of Nautilus, and it worked. It’s just frustrating as I had 7 tabs pointed to very different location: I had to reopen all of these by hand. Regards, Martin. [Bug 1949262] Re: Power Savings doesn't turn monitor off on NUC8i5INH
I run Ubuntu Budgie 21.10. Since two days before turning off display after idle went well (DPMS mode). Since yesterday turning off display doesn't work anymore. [Bug 1949966] [NEW] sshfs randomly corrupts files
Public bug reported: /usr/bin/sshfs the way it is packaged now is broken, tested on 20.04 focal and 21.10 impish. This issue is not present on Debian Sid or Arch Linux. The way the issue shows is that majority of the time, a 40MB .zip file I download from an SFTP server is broken. The stat is identical, filesize is identical to the byte, but the inside is a garbled mess that refuses to unzip anymore. Tested via (and almost always getting a random checksum): md5sum /mnt/file.zip && umount /mnt/sftp && mount /mnt/sftp && md5sum /mnt/file.zip I used a definition in fstab but also manually mounted via 'sshfs -o allow_other,default_permissions' This is not a kernel issue, this is not a network issue, I have tested in containers and across servers. Unfortunately, I do not have administrative access to the server I am testing against, so this is the only idea I have about it: Remote protocol version 2.0, remote software version CrushFTPSSHD The workaround is to replace the /usr/bin/sshfs binary(and adding an accompanying libfuse3.so to the correct path) from Arch Linux. This should be an sshfs issue, not a libfuse issue, as copying libfuse2 from Arch does not make the issue disappear. ** Affects: sshfs-fuse (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to sshfs-fuse in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1949966 Title: sshfs randomly corrupts files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sshfs-fuse/+bug/1949966/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1938683] [NEW] dash number-of-windows indicator not cleared for thunderbird
Public bug reported: The "number of windows" indicator in the Ubuntu Dash (the orange dots to the left of the app icon) is not cleared for Thunderbird, when a new e-mail is written in a new window. Ultimately, the indicators stay visible even after Thunderbird is closed completely, and it's no longer possible to launch thunderbird by left-clicking of the dash icon (middle-click works okay). Steps to reproduce: 1. Launch Thunderbird. There is one orange dot to the left of the thunderbird icon. 2. Write an e-mail and close the e-mail window 3. Observe that there are now two orange dots to the left of the thunderbird icon. Please see the screenshot for more details. [Bug 1883174] Re: Some (or all) desktop icons are missing
I have gotten a lazy way around this, it is not really a fix but it works. Around Feb this year(2021) or march give or take I had the same problem but when I read through the ubuntu community and then others like me who never made a fresh install from 14 lts then to 18 then to 20. I was highly sure that I had missed something .. being a windows user originally my first instinct was to create a new folder just like was recommended, I did that for a while and it worked . however the system prompted me to upgrade a few times then it worked perfect, all was showing. But after a while I got the same issues again from an upgrade from the main server. Trust me, all I did was right click-create new folder-name it then when it was created and all my desktop folders came back. it is lazy but it works mostly when you have upgraded from previous version -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1883174 Title: Some (or all) desktop icons are missing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons/+bug/1883174/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1928312] Re: ghost compose window with wayland
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: After writing a new email and sending it, gnome still sees the compose window, even though it is really closed. * Ubuntu Dock has an additional dot next to the thunderbird logo * Clicking in the top bar on Thunderbird has the compose window listed under "Open windows" * Using get_windows() in looking glass on the thunderbird app object gets 2 objects of MetaWindowWayland Even after closing the main window of thunderbird, the ghost window is still there (dot next to thunderbird logo in ubuntu dock), which means Ubuntu Dock is not launching thunderbird on single left click any more. Right click on the thunderbird logo in this state just opens an action window which doesn't respond to any clicks. Only logging out and back in seems to restore normal behavior. This is happening since upgrading to Ubuntu 21.04 and using wayland by default. It doesn't happen 100% of the time, but often enough for me to be able to collect additional information if necessary. [Bug 1927276] [NEW] Drag-and-drop from Nautilus causes Mutter to close Wayland connections
Public bug reported: When dragging a file from Nautilus to another window (either another Nautilus window or a GNOME Terminal window), and you hold down the alt key while dropping, Mutter closes the connection to the target application (which GDK handles by calling `_exit(1)` unconditionally). When the target application is a GNOME Terminal window, the entire GNOME Terminal Server exits, so all terminal windows close. This is likely to lead to data loss (I have personally experienced having many very important terminal windows with neovim just close because I dared to drag and drop a file into another terminal window instead of typing out the path).
