[Bug 1707346] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast() due to the deja-dup (35.1-0ubuntu2) change
OK, I looked into it quickly in gdb, it seems like something not obvious or memory-corruption related. Since I felt it was going to not be a one-minute fix, I just disabled the nautilus extension for now. It's not very important to the deja-dup workflow. [Bug 1605330] [NEW] Guarantee access to /dev/rfkill
Public bug reported: indicator-bluetooth wants direct access to /dev/rfkill. In Ubuntu, that access is granted to the current active user by logind by virtue of the uaccess tag on /dev/rfkill. That tag is granted by /lib/udev/rules.d/61-gnome-settings-daemon- rfkill.rules from the gnome-settings-daemon package. I think indicator-bluetooth either should: 1) ship its own version of that file to grant the uaccess tag to /dev/rfkill, or 2) simply use the DBus api provided by rfkilld, if that's possible (I don't happen to know whether indicator-bluetooth's rfkill usage can be easily ported) This came up in the context of Ubuntu Touch, where gnome-settings-daemon is not installed (the phablet user is granted access by being in the android_input group, but that is a solution we'd like to move away from as we support more users and a proper lightdm greeter). ** Affects: indicator-bluetooth (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to indicator-bluetooth in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1605330 Title: Guarantee access to /dev/rfkill To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-bluetooth/+bug/1605330/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Looks mostly fine. - There are several build warnings about potentially uninitialized variables. I didn't look into whether they were problems or not. No need to fix, but maybe they should be looked into. - There are a couple crash reports in LP. Any actual problems there? - I get the following warning on startup: e-data-server-WARNING **: e_module_load_all_in_directory: Error opening directory '/usr/lib/evolution-data-server/credential-modules': No such file or directory. Are we missing some files or support for something? Otherwise packaging seems good and we are in sync with Debian. GNOME and the desktop team will maintain well I'm sure. [Bug 1480877] Re: Access points' "PropertiesChanged" dbus signals freeze UI on mobile devices
Here's a followup on living with silo 26 (pre-comment 97, so an earlier version, but I doubt it matters for testing?) and Tony's libqt5network5. I tested this morning (so a full day of the phone living on this code) and it was slightly worse -- small stutters instead of tiny ones. And the stutters I do see when transitioning from wifi to mobile seem better (presumably because less dbus signal watchers are registered now for all the traffic that happens on a switch?). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to dbus-cpp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1480877 Title: Access points' "PropertiesChanged" dbus signals freeze UI on mobile devices To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1480877/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1480877] Re: Access points' "PropertiesChanged" dbus signals freeze UI on mobile devices
I tested silo 26 + libqt5network5 from Tony's PPA and did my normal routine of walking out of range of my home network. It seems much better. dbus-daemon CPU usage is down (only ~30% for a few seconds after initial switch to 3G and ~15% during scans after). But more importantly, stuttering is much better. Only a couple tiny stutters on initial switch. And none during scans. I'm +100 on trying to land this. (My test was on a relatively-recently-rebooted phone, so maybe not the ideal test. I'll try again later after a while of uptime to double confirm the results, but this looks good. If I don't post again, assume it worked great.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to dbus-cpp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1480877 Title: Access points' "PropertiesChanged" dbus signals freeze UI on mobile devices To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1480877/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1480877] Re: Access points' "PropertiesChanged" dbus signals freeze UI on mobile devices
I just tried Tony's lp:~phablet-team/network-manager/lp1480877-wifi-rm- dup-scan-signals branch and did the same thing I've done before to trigger this bug: walk around my neighborhood with Terminal open, running top. To be fair, I was testing rc-proposed tip + Tony's branch, whereas I previously tested with OTA6. So there's more than one change here. But I haven't heard of related changes in this area, so I will attribute all improvements to Tony's branch. Before this patch, I was seeing NM spike to 30-50% CPU while scanning and causing a matching spike in dbus-daemon to 100% for a while (at least 3s, sometimes a fair bit longer). With this patch, NM stayed at ~15% when scanning, and dbus-daemon never went above 7% (usually at 4%). A massive improvement. >From a UX perspective, I still saw UI stuttering. Seemingly without the CPU-load justification to warrant it. But I subjectively don't think it was as bad or long-lasting as before. And top doesn't lie. The CPU was way less loaded with this patch than without it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to location-service in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1480877 Title: Access points' "PropertiesChanged" dbus signals freeze UI on mobile devices To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1480877/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: Geoclue2 (source package geoclue-2.0) is a separate, parallel- installable version of geoclue1 (source package geoclue). [Bug 1353469] [NEW] Compiler optimization error needs investigation
Public bug reported: This is a breakaway bug from bug 1351308. accountsservice 0.6.37-1ubuntu7 introduced a new bug where libaccountsservice would not report the manager object as loaded. It wasn't because of the content of that upload, but rather seemingly because of building with a new compiler. It got uploaded shortly after the gcc 4.9 transition. I wasn't able to determine whether this is something accountsservice is doing or just gcc's fault. But even inserting some debug statements around the place or downgrading optimization to -O1 made the problem go away. So I'm leaning towards gcc. For now, we just changed optimization in the package to workaround the problem. But the root source should be investigated. ** Affects: gcc-4.9 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Package changed: accountsservice (Ubuntu) = gcc-4.9 (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to accountsservice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1353469 Title: Compiler optimization error needs investigation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-4.9/+bug/1353469/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1352559] [NEW] Language and password settings aren't being updated correctly
Public bug reported: Build 169, mako. Looks like display language and password mode aren't being updated correctly because libaccountsservice isn't reporting that the manager object is loaded. You'll see the message internal error: user not loaded when trying to change password modes or you'll see the language setting fail to change after setting a new one. [Bug 1265528] Re: Share ring tone with greeter via AccountsService
@seb128: I agree that AS is less good for us than gsettings in at least the following important ways: 1) it is harder for admins to change the default value of custom properties 2) there is not yet a friendly get/set command line tool 3) libaccountsservice hasn't yet added API for custom properties 4) correctly setting the permissions for properties to be only shared with the lightdm user is easy to forget to do But on the other hand, for our sharing info with greeter use case, I think it's a necessary evil. As for making it more optimal: #1 can be managed with diverts, #2 can be fixed with a small amount of effort, #3 with a bit more effort, and #4 could be fixed by installing a common policykit policy that could be referenced by all custom properties that are for lightdm. Given that storing config in AS is a necessary evil and that synchronization adds all sorts of new problems, I would prefer to avoid synchronization where possible and just use AS as the canonical store for configuration that needs to be shared with the greeter. About bug 1237642, I did forget that I mentioned ring tone in that bug when I was filing this one. I was thinking that this bug was for ring tone and that one for volume/mute. But both ring tone and volume settings need the same treatment. [Bug 859600] Re: Please convert gnome-keyring to multiarch
OK, quick update on status for Quantal and Precise. The Quantal patch was never uploaded to the archive. The Precise patch was uploaded by xnox, but was rejected because of the ${binary:Version} issue below. I've just uploaded a modified patch from comment 75 to Quantal only. I'd like to get Quantal landed before doing Precise, because as people have mentioned, the upgrade path gets complicated otherwise. Here are the changes I made to Graham's Quantal patch: - You shouldn't specify Breaks or Replaces lines with automatically generated versions like ${binary:Version}. This means that every time the package is built, it will say it breaks previous versions. Instead, just hardcode the version that you put in debian/changelog. - When using DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH, please also make sure to manually set it [1] as recommended in the multiarch conversion doc [2]. This is because while normally the buildd will set it for us, it's not a requirement. For example, when dep8 tests rebuild the source, the variable is not set for us. Not likely an issue in practice , but still good to do. - No need for quantal-proposed in the changelog entry. You can just say quantal now and LP will do the right thing. Minor point, but just saying. - No need to manually add multiarch-support to the Pre-Depends line. It comes in via the ${misc:Pre-Depends} bit. Again, minor point. So let's see how the Quantal upload goes. Public bug reported: In Nautilus 3.6, introduced in raring, the menu layout was changed from the traditional all-entries-in-one-menubar to: * an application menu called Files in the Unity menu bar * a view menu has moved to some toolbar buttons and a dropdown under an arrow in the upper right of a window * all other menu items have moved to a cog button dropdown in the upper right of a window For Unity, we should probably switch back to the more traditional layout (and keep the new layout for GNOME). [Bug 606292] Re: WebDAV backend leaks a lot of memory
OK. I've confirmed that on 10.04.4, both VIRT and RES climb when transfering over webdav. But at least on 12.04.1 and up, only VIRT climbs. So I think this bug has been fixed upstream. VIRT climbing alone I believe just means that the memory is being fragmented easily. Not that there is a leak. I'll mark incomplete until anyone can verify if they still see a leak on a recent Ubuntu. ** Changed in: gvfs (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/606292 Title: WebDAV backend leaks a lot of memory To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/606292/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1053862] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_list_foreach()
I believe I've found why this happens. Or at least, one way it *could* happen. With a very similar stacktrace. While a GtkUIManager is updating its dynamic elements, and it destroys a menu item, any signal handlers for that destruction might further modify the UIManager. And the current code is poorly equipped to handle the node structure changing out from under it while it is in update_node. See attached test program. It triggers two similar bugs: (1) deleting the next sibling in the destruction handler and (2) deleting the parent node in the destruction handler. I haven't confirmed that either of these issues is this same exact crash in nautilus yet. But it sounds reasonable, and has a similar stacktrace. Run the program like so: valac --pkg gtk+-3.0 test.vala G_SLICE=debug-blocks ./test The first bug you hit will be the sibling one. Unless you comment out that function call in the test, you won't ever get to the parent bug because you'll keep crashing. ** Attachment added: test.vala https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1053862/+attachment/3399119/+files/test.vala ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #686174 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=686174 ** Also affects: nautilus via https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=686174 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Project changed: nautilus = gtk ** Package changed: nautilus (Ubuntu Quantal) = gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu Quantal) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1053862 Title: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_list_foreach() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gtk/+bug/1053862/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
