for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release?

In case that you need more information for debugging Network Manager,

[Bug 282739] Re: Changing Resolution in Monitor Resolution Settings has no effect

2009-02-02 Thread Michele Mangili
Thanks for your quick response!

I wrote that your report seems related to bug #324115 because in that
bug I've pointed out that gnome-display-properties not only change the
theme but also works only once! After changing the screen resolution for
the first time it doesn't work any more!

Could you please follow these steps:
1) open a terminal
2) run gnome-settings-daemon
3) Try to change the screen resolution, using gnome-display-properties;
and confirm that this doesn't fix your problem?

Regarding the status of this report, I'd say that you have provided all

[Bug 324115] Re: gnome-display-properties changes desktop theme

2009-02-02 Thread Michele Mangili
Hello!

I've tried to reproduce your bug, and I've experienced the same problem!

I've opened System-Preferences-Screen Resolution (gnome-display-
properties) ; reduced my screen resolution and clicked Ok. The tool
switched to the new resolution and, at the same time, it changed the
theme, and stopped gnome-settings-daemon.

I've also noticed that if I try to set my resolution to the previous
value and I click ok, nothing happens!

A possible workaround is:
open a terminal and run gnome-settings-daemon , as a result the original
theme is restored. At the same time I can use gnome-display-properties to set
my previous resolution. (And it works as expected, without changing my theme!).

Ubuntu better!

[Bug 323952] Re: Can't remove categories in applications menu

2009-02-01 Thread Michele Mangili
Hi!

Thank you for your quick response.

The program triggered when you right click the application menu and
select 'edit menus' is alacarte.

I've tried to reproduce your bug and I've noticed that the user
interface of alcarte is quite strange. Try for example the following
steps:

1) Click Application
2) Click New menu
3) Create a new menu with name testMenu
4) Click testMenu
5) Click New Item
6) Create a new item with name testItem and command testCommand

Now I'm going to delete testItem.

7) I select testItem from the Items: column
8) I click Delete

The result is that testItem has been deleted as expected.

Now I'm going to delete testMenu.

9) I select testMenu from the Menus: column
10) I click Delete (which is active)

Nothing happens.

11) I select Application from the Menus: column
12) I select testMenu from the Items: column
13) I click Delete

testMenu has been deleted as expected.

(I'm sorry for the verbosity of my message...)

I'm going to move this report to alacarte package and mark this as
Confirmed since I find this user interface extremely unintuitive. I'd
suggest to disable the Delete button when the user has not selected
anything in the Item: column, or better let the user delete an item
which belongs to the Menus: column.

Thank you for taking the time to help in making ubuntu better.

1. Please run the command dmesg dmesg.log after a fresh boot and attach the
resulting file dmesg.log to this bug report.
2. Please run the command sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log and attach the
resulting file lspci-vvnn.log to this bug report.

so that we can have more information about your hardware configuration.

Can you post the error message (if any) that you have gotten from
brasero?

Thanks in advance.

At the moment, the new version of file-roller is not available for 8.10.

It is quite easy to install and it works great if you are using Ubuntu

[Bug 320863] Re: Rhythmbox provides no method of creating mp3 file

2009-01-25 Thread Michele Mangili
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 320784] Re: Cannot extract zip archive when filenames contain a \ character

2009-01-24 Thread Michele Mangili
Hi Fabio.

I suppose that this is a duplicate bug. Can you please give a look at
bug number #294215 ? And tell me if that is the same issue.

Thank you.

[Bug 320784] Re: Cannot extract zip archive when filenames contain a \ character

2009-01-24 Thread Michele Mangili
I couldn't extract that file using file-roller 2.24.1-0ubuntu2 (which is
affected by bug #294215 ) but I was able to extract it with file-roller
2.25.2-0ubuntu1.
file-roller extracted a file with name mydirectory\myfile and it didn't
create the directory mydirectory .

Which version of file-roller are you using?

I think that the example you have provided is a duplicate of bug #294215
. In fact the archive you have posted contains a file which filename is
mydirectory\myfile. So the filename contains a \ (backslash)
character. As you can read here:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=559481 (this is the upstream
report for #294215) special characters in filenames are []*?!^-\ and
backslash is included. At the same time I suppose that the backslash
character is not a directory separator when used in the filename. It
must be a character which belongs to the name of a file and it doesn't
represent a directory, although I don't know the zip file format, so I'm
not sure.

I understand that your bug report pointed out that the character '\'
could be used to represent a sub-directory in an archive (e.g. a .zip
file) instead of using the character '/'.

We'd be grateful if you would then provide an archive in which the \
character in the name of a file is used to represent that the file is
placed inside a directory, so that we can reproduce this bug.

Have you already installed ubuntu-restricted-extras? This package allows
you to select MP3 as a audio output format for ripping your cd.

Please tell us if ubuntu-restricted-extras solved your problem. Thank
you.
