[Bug 1621002] Re: Mediascanner2 test failure on yakkety/{armhf, arm64, ppc64el} with latest dbus-cpp

2016-09-07 Thread Michi Henning
Good catch!

I've seen this in the past due to uninitialised variables. With
optimisation, the compiler gets more aggressive about register re-use,
so a bug can manifest under optimisation when the uninitialised variable
ends up in a register that had a previous value in it. (In debug mode,
the variable often picks up a zero value instead.)

Not sure if there is an easy way to track down whether this is the case
or if this is a genuine code generation problem.

Scopes-api is innocent here. I just passes the location info it gets
from the shell without touching or caching it. Adding the shell and
location-service to the bug.

[Bug 1466273] Re: gstreamer fails intermittently

2015-06-21 Thread Michi Henning
I'm also seeing this on my Nexus 4. Except here, gstreamer hangs and
makes the process unkillable.

Here is a bit of trace from our code:

thumbnailer-service: [06:53:02.902] timeout, state = 2
thumbnailer-service: [06:53:02.902] killing process 12806
thumbnailer-service: [06:53:02.902] calling waitpid for process 12806
thumbnailer-service: [06:53:31.900] waitpid for process 12806 returned

This happens when a timer fires. If gstreamer doesn't complete within 10
seconds, we kill the process. (Each video thumbnail is extracted in a
separate process, so we can recover from gstreamer crashes and hangs.)

However, take a look at the time stamps. We sent a SIGKILL at 53.02 and
immediately called waitpid(). But waitpid() does not return until 29
seconds later. This strongly suggests a kernel problem. (At least as far
as I know, the only way for SIGKILL to not kill a process is if the
process is asleep in the kernel at uninterruptible priority.)

[Bug 1393438] Re: Enable location data string displays untranslated

2014-11-19 Thread Michi Henning
OK, the linked branch should fix this. To make the transition easier, I
have *added* a new settings definition called
internal.location.precision. It's an enum with values None,
Approximate, and Precise. The old internal.location boolean setting
is still there. The idea is to make the transition easier: we can check
this in now without affecting the shell, and when the shell is ready to
change its end of the fix, it can start using
internal.location.precision instead of internal.location.

Note that not only the Enable location data string will need
localizing, but also the three enumerator values.

[Bug 1393438] Re: Enable location data string displays untranslated

2014-11-19 Thread Michi Henning
One more note: while fixing this, I found a bug in our code: for
settings of enum type, if the settings schema was created from a .ini
file, the VariantMap returned by the registry metdata() method returned
the enumerators in a field named displayValues. However, when the
settings schema was created from a JSON string (as is the case for
remote scopes), the same thing in in the VariantMap was in a field named
values.

I'm not sure whether that affects the shell; probably best to double-
check. It is displayValues for both now. If the shell looks for
values as the key for enum definitions in the scope metadata, it needs
to use displayValues instead.
