[Bug 2042979] [NEW] Noble spice-vdagent crash crashes xorg
Public bug reported: This is on 'debian release' upgraded from Mantic to Noble, which I keep persistent to test the Noble Upgrades from day-to-day. Intermittent crashes, which results in the desktops crashing and returning back to the GDM3 graphical login. I am not sure if, since a VM, and Spice, if it is a KVM host problem, or if a Noble problem. Agreed. [Bug 2041328] Re: gnome-session crash on Kubuntu 23.10
Even with GDM3... The problem seems to be the foundation somewhere, as this one was installed originally as Kubuntu from the Kubuntu 23.10 installer ISO. The second on that was the comaparison was originally installed from the Ubuntu 23.10.1 Installer ISO. This test originally was spurned from three users telling that htey were gettig core 1 of their CPU's pegged at 100% when installed with the Kubuntu iso, but had no trouble at all installing with the Ubuntu iso, then adding the Kubuntu Desktop to it... Ohter Kubuntu users were having locking problems, if installed from the Kubuntu iso... The idea was brought up to try other desktops to see if there was a locking problem with those desktop installed on a Kubuntu foundation, with parallel tests of being installed from the Ubuntu iso as the comparison... I could not replicate that CPU problem, nor the system locking up, but I did find this. This test case #1 randomly crashes back to the Login Manager, no matter which DM is set to the Default... Even If I set GDM3, and/or SDDM as the DM. Like I said above, installing ubuntu-desktop on top of that, actually sorted out a lot of the initial problems it was having. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2041328 Title: gnome-session crash on Kubuntu 23.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/2041328/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 2041328] Re: gnome-session crash on Kubuntu 23.10
I have been using LightDM as my DE with Gnome3 since it cam out. Gnome3 Works fine with LightDM through 23.10. That is just personal choice. GDM3 is still there. It is installed by default along with gnome- sessions, because it is the default. Do not get distracted. I can confirm that Tests T2-a are with LightDM as the DE and there are no errors at all. If I switch it t GDM3, still same errors. I cannot test it easily with SDDM, as there is no DE chooser, so has to be done other ways. ### Marked as "incomplete"? [Bug 2009712] [NEW] Gnome lock screen loses focus if a window opens while screen is locked
Public bug reported: The Gnome lock screen has caused me a lot of frustration over time, since I've often found that is unresponsive to the keyboard when I come back to the system and try to get back in after the screen lock has activated. I finally realized that this is usually due to the "Software Updater" window popping up while I'm away from the computer, though it can be triggered by any window opening while the screen is locked. To reproduce: Open a terminal window and type "sleep 15; gnome-terminal", then immediately click on the upper-right notification area and select the "Lock" option in the popup menu. Observe the screen go into lock. Wait 15 seconds. Press a key like Ctrl or Alt to wake the screen. Attempt to type in the password (or use a fingerprint reader if you have one). Nothing happens. Click the screen (or possibly tap/swipe it if you have a touchscreen). The password prompt will now appear, and it should be possible to type in the password (or use the fingerprint reader) This is a very annoying behavior. It shouldn't be necessary to click/tap the screen to restore focus when the whole desktop has been taken over by the screen locker. [Bug 2007621] [NEW] gio open exits with success even though the underlying exec failed
Public bug reported: This is a sort of annoyingly complex interaction, so bear with me. The observed problem is that xdg-open does not exit with a non-zero exit code when it fails to open. ``` $ unset DISPLAY $ xdg-open http://example.com exo-open: Cannot open display: . $ echo $? 0 ``` It turns out to not exactly be xdg-open's fault, though: ``` $ sh -x $(which xdg-open) http://example.com 2>&1 | tail -n10 + return 0 + open_xfce http://example.com + exo-open --help + gio help open + gio open http://example.com exo-open: Cannot open display: . + [ 0 -eq 0 ] + exit_success + [ 0 -gt 0 ] + exit 0 ``` So, from this we see that xdg-open uses `exo-open --help` to see if exo- open works, but it fails due to the DISPLAY, so it falls back to gio open. gio open ends up turning around and calling exo-open again, but gio swallows the exit code, so xdg-open thinks it worked. ``` $ exo-open http://example.com exo-open: Cannot open display: . $ echo $? 1 $ gio open http://example.com exo-open: Cannot open display: . $ echo $? 0 ``` Versions: $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS Release:22.04 $ xdg-open --version xdg-open 1.1.3 $ exo-open --version | head -n1 exo-open 4.16.3 $ gio --version 2.72.4 Specifically: exo-utils: Installed: 4.16.3-1 Candidate: 4.16.3-1 Version table: *** 4.16.3-1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status libglib2.0-bin: Installed: 2.72.4-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 2.72.4-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 2.72.4-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2.72.1-1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy/main amd64 Packages xdg-utils: Installed: 1.1.3-4.1ubuntu3~22.04.1 Candidate: 1.1.3-4.1ubuntu3~22.04.1 Version table: *** 1.1.3-4.1ubuntu3~22.04.1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy-updates/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1.1.3-4.1ubuntu1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy/main amd64 Packages 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy/main i386 Packages ** Affects: glib2.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2007621 Title: gio open exits with success even though the underlying exec failed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/+bug/2007621/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1964037] Re: gnome-shell crashes (fatal error logged in create_fallback_offscreen) when attempting to enable second monitor on second GPU (Nvidia >= 495) in a Wayland session
Thanks for your attention to this bug, Daniel. For the record, I don't think a set up like this is particularly weird; I'm seeing this issue on a laptop with embedded NVIDIA graphics. The "second video card", in my case, is the integrated Intel graphics card. Also, I'm not sure if this is related, but yesterday I saw a regression that caused my second monitor to fail; the only workaround I found was to downgrade to nvidia-driver-470 from nvidia-driver-510. [Bug 1886326] [NEW] gnome-terminal does not retain maximised size when external monitor goes into power save
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Release:20.04 with standard Ubuntu Gnome desktop. ii gnome-terminal 3.36.2-1ubuntu1~20.04 amd64GNOME terminal emulator application ii gnome-terminal-data 3.36.2-1ubuntu1~20.04 all Data files for the GNOME terminal emulator ii libvte-2.91-0:amd64 0.60.3-0ubuntu1~20.04 amd64Terminal emulator widget for GTK+ 3.0 - runtime files ii libvte-2.91-common 0.60.3-0ubuntu1~20.04 amd64Terminal emulator widget for GTK+ 3.0 - common files Steps to reproduce: 1. Have laptop with 1920x1080 display, but closed so the display is not being used. 2. Have external 1920x1200 monitor connected via HDMI. 3. Open gnome-terminal and maximise it. 4. Press Windows+L to lock screen. 5. Leave computer locked for long enough for the monitor to go into power save. 6. Unlock. 7. Notice that gnome-terminal window no longer covers the whole screen - a 120 pixel bar of the desktop is visible at the bottom of the screen. 8. Double click on the gnome-terminal title bar in an attempt to maximise the window and discover that the window gets smaller (because it thought it was already maximised.) 9. Double click on the gnome-terminal title bar again and the window is then maximised correctly. Expected result: The gnome-terminal window remains maximised covering the whole screen at step 7. (However, if I were to unplug the external monitor and start using the laptop display I would expect the window to remain maximised but resized to cover the smaller display.) I suspect that this problem can be reproduced with any two differing display sizes. [Bug 1878838] Re: [nvidia] Black screen (wrong VT) upon login
Apologies if this is completely irrelevant, but I've also started experiencing a black screen after login on Focal. This is in a VirtualBox VM using the VMSVGA driver, so absolutely no Nvidia involvement (Intel HD4600 on the host). After setting the GDM debug option, I also see the failure to jump error message. I mostly just wanted to add this as another data point... I have kernels 5.4.0-26, 5.4.0-29, and 5.4.0-31 installed. The system boots to a desktop fine with -26 and fails with -29 and -31, and this has persisted through the VirtualBox 6.1.6 to 6.1.8 upgrade, and all other packages have stayed up to date. Can anyone else confirm if they see the same behavior with an older kernel? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1878838 Title: [nvidia] Black screen (wrong VT) upon login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1878838/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Problem exists only when email accounts are set up using the settings feature and adding online accounts. If you add the email accounts (Gmail) through the Evolution application then there is no problem. I suspect the problem is with Gnome's online accounts through settings - not Evolution's mail product. [Bug 1386120] Re: evince and/or evince-thumbnailer stuck with high cpu load on specific dvi file
After analyzing the error, I have noticed that the high CPU load is related with an evince-thumbnailer exit error that also involves the execution of some texlive commands. [Bug 398687] Re: Gnome shutdown dialog timeout cannot be adjusted
> The timeout is there mainly for people who select the action, > and then forget to confirm the action and walk away. The timeout as a feature has an extremely bad ratio of befuddleness vs. usefulness to the user. When a feature is only marginally useful, and yet it is bound to confuse people every time they see it, then the feature needs to be either redesigned or left out. I would not mind at all seeing it left out, but if you want some suggestion as to how it could be improved, here: a) Move the text below the buttons, make it tiny so that it looks like a footnote, and change it to "if you do nothing the machine will shut down in X seconds". This way, the text makes sense. As it is now, it doesn't. b) Make the number of seconds auto-refresh to show the actual number of seconds remaining. As it stands now, the user is under the impression that the countdown is not counting (part of the befudleness I mentioned earlier) so 59 seconds later the dialog will still read "shutdown in 60 seconds" and then poof -- it shuts down in your face. That's terrible as far as user experience is concerned. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/398687 Title: Gnome shutdown dialog timeout cannot be adjusted To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/398687/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1287793] Re: Lock screen day/time display does not honor locale
It gets even more confusing for me when I have my locale set to the UK, but my time-zone is Japan, so I end up with "金曜日, 08 3月" for today's date. In other words, it's Japanese, but with the UK spacing and ordering of weekday-date-month (instead of month-date-weekday, with no commas or spaces). This just ends up confusing everyone. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot of lock screen showing incorrect formatting" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/1287793/+attachment/5244606/+files/VirtualBox_Ubuntu%2018.04%20LTS_08_03_2019_11_26_26.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1287793 Title: Lock screen day/time display does not honor locale To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/1287793/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
