I think it is totally ok to have the new version installed. Ubuntu
detects that it was installed and it just wont be updated when webkit
1.8.1. eventually reaches the official repos.
I'm wondering what is commune in our install of Ubuntu, that we had this
bug, and it was not reported by anybody
I think you need to install this ppa
https://launchpad.net/~webkit-team/+archive/ppa
Then do an update, among which there should be the webkit 1.8.1 package too.

After a restart, this morning Empathy worked. I have no idea if the
webkit update took effect or other updates resolved it. Can anybody try
to install the webkit update, and check if they get the same result?!

After starting empathy it will not log in to my yahoo! account until I
type in my password. Checking the remember password box is not working.
Maybe haze or empathy can't access the keyring.
What files I need to upload and how to retrieve them?

Public bug reported:
At each startup of empathy I need to add my msn account, because empathy will
not remember it.
There is no remember password checkbox either.
Tell me what files I need to upload, and how to retrieve them.

Since the administrator closed some ports my MSN contacts can't receive
messages from me, though they appear online to me, as I do to them.
I've changed the server to gateway.messenger.hotmail.com and the port to 80,
but this has no effect.

In my case it happens with messages composed of just 6 characters. I see no
correlation between the length of my message and this bug.
The other aspect of this is, that after the bug occurs I can't send any
messages to that contact, until I log out and in again.
This is really annoying. I've
The file contains the error, which occurred when my message was not
sent.
In the debug log there was no sign of any message written in that time
interval, thus it was about 10 lines.
My friend uses pidgin 2.6.6.

I have this same problem on MSN and Yahoo! protocol, but nothing is
