[Bug 830348] Re: desktop contents briefly visible on resume from suspend before lock dialog

2012-06-12 Thread Paddy Launch
This affects me on 12.04 using conventional 3d unity. I just returned to my
laptop after a several hours, swished my mouse, and the screen came back on,
unlocked... I thought odd... shouldn't this be locked? and just assumed that
I must have absent-mindedly unlocked it earlier. I then went to start using the
laptop, and as soon as I touched the keyboard, the lock screen came up.
There was a delay of several seconds before the lock came up - it was certainly
long enough to convince me that the screen was unlocked and ready to use.

[Bug 1009527] [NEW] user-accounts panel does not give the option to encrypt a new user's home directory

2012-06-06 Thread Paddy Launch
Public bug reported:

The gnome-control-center user-accounts panel does not give the user the
option to encrypt a new user's home directory.

This omission is clearly a bug, because the user is given the option of
encrypting their own home directory when installing the operating
system, and therefore would certainly expect this functionality to be
available for creating new accounts via the GUI.

[Bug 1009703] [NEW] brasero intermittently fails to appear on desktop when activated via nautilus context menu

2012-06-06 Thread Paddy Launch
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. In nautilus right-click on an .iso file and select open with brasero disc
burner
2. If the brasero dialog appears, then click cancel.
3. repeat step 1.

Expected behaviour: Brasero dialog appears

Actual behaviour: nothing appears

pgrep -l brasero shows that a brasero process is running. If you kill
that process, you are then able to get to the brasero dialog by
selecting the option from the context menu.

Note: I first noticed this the very first time I right-click selected
brasero - nothing appeared and there was no feedback. Also, when this
happens, attempting to start brasero from the Dash also results in
nothing happening, no feedback.

[Bug 1002075] [NEW] nautilus context menu options incorrectly greyed out

2012-05-20 Thread Paddy Launch
Public bug reported:

** PART I **

Steps to reproduce:

1. Right-click on any file or folder in nautilus that you have
permission to rename.

Expected behaviour:

A Rename option should be available in the context menu for the
selected file or folder.

Actual behaviour:

The Rename option is ALWAYS greyed out. However, clicking on the
greyed out option still allows you to rename the selected file or
folder.

** PART II **

Steps to reproduce:

1. Right-click on any file or folder in nautilus that you have permission to
read and select Copy from the context menu.
2. Right-click into a blank space in any folder in nautilus for which you have
write permission.

Expected behaviour:

A Paste option should be available in the context menu.

Actual behaviour:

The Paste option is ALWAYS greyed out. However, clicking on the greyed
out option still allows you to paste the file that you just copied.

2011-05-05 Thread Paddy Launch
A quick workaround that I use in Lucid when I want to leave my laptop
running overnight but want the screen off immediately:

1. Click power management applet and select Preferences
2. Select Put display to sleep when inactive for: 1 minute
3. Wait 1 minute.
4. Activate the screen again as normal, the power management applet is still up
- reset the Put display to sleep when inactive value to whatever it is
normally and click Close.

[Bug 563862] Re: When logging on power manager fails

2010-07-26 Thread Paddy Launch
I experienced this bug briefly just now. My report is similar to owen's
above.

My steps to reproduce:

1. Set BIOS boot order to: (1) CD Drive (2) HDD
2. Insert FreeDOS CD and boot
3. Select 'q' to quit the FreeDOS boot and boot from HDD
4. Log in and get the dialog A program is still running... as outlined in the
bug description above.

Removing the CD Drive from the BIOS boot order (which is my usual
setting, when I'm not trying to flash my BIOS) solved the problem for
me.

try I get the message The item could not be renamed. Sorry, could
not rename NAME A to NAME B: Conflict. I'll log this as a

[Bug 387957] Re: Improve Save As Dialog Box (focus issues)

2010-05-22 Thread Paddy Launch
I agree this is a horrible, horrible bug. No one in their right mind
names a new file before selecting the directory to save it in!

The obvious solution would be to switch focus back to the Name field
after a new folder has been selected. However, another possible solution
that (I think) will avoid any breakage to current behaviour would be if
the file chooser widget, upon finding no match for the typed filename
and the user pressing RETURN (i.e. that filename does not exist), were
then to transfer the focus as well as that filename to the Name field.

[Bug 581491] Re: Can not stop scanning an incorrectly-entered library folder

2010-05-17 Thread Paddy Launch
Under Lucid, Rhythmbox selects your home dir as the default, and then it
starts rummaging through all your billions of non-music files flagging
them as Import Errors - how about holding your horses and waiting for
instructions from the user, eh? Who exactly gave you permission to
rampage through my file system looking for music!?? Crazy behaviour...

I have to say I've only noticed this problem first with Lucid - I was
happy with the border width on Intrepid. 1 pixel is VERY difficult to
grab in a hurry! I think the problem is perhaps exacerbated for those
of us who have focus follows mouse set.

[Bug 546873] [NEW] User Administration Tool has significantly delayed repsonse (with no feedback)

2010-03-25 Thread Paddy Launch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

Possible duplicate of #542744 ?

Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 1.

When using the users-admin tool from gnome-system-tools, every instance
of clicking on an 'OK' button causes the application to
pause/freeze/delay for 10-20 seconds before completing the intended
action, even if the action is not actually causing any change to data.

E.g. I click on Advanced Settings (for the current user), and then
Authenticate. I click on the User Privileges tab, and then 'OK'. There
is no response for several seconds before the dialog finally disappears.
I then click Manage Groups, and examine the properties of any group,
e.g. Audio - when I click 'OK' to close the dialog there is no response
for 10-20 seconds before the dialog finally closes.

The delay is one thing, but it's the not having any visual feedback
(e.g. busy icon) that's most disconcerting, as you don't know whether or
not your click has been registered, or whether or not the app has
completely locked up!

[Bug 438087] [NEW] Deleted Items Applet does not give feedback when clicked (i.e. busy cursor)

2009-09-28 Thread Paddy Launch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10
Deleted Items Applet 2.24.1

When I click on the Deleted Items Applet icon (the 'Wastebasket') in the
bottom right of the task bar, it opens up the Deleted Items folder,
eventually. However, between clicking the icon and opening up the folder
in Nautilus there is no visual feedback that the icon has been
successfully clicked (i.e. 'busy cursor'). Even though I have a very
fast dual-core laptop, the Deleted Items folder does not always open
'instantly' (depending on what else I am running) and I frequently will
click on the icon several times and then eventually, several
instances of Nautilus will appear. This is annoying. It would be nice to
have a busy cursor to indicate that the click has been recognised.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: amd64
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10
Package: gnome-panel 1:2.24.1-0ubuntu2.1

[Bug 402279] Re: nautilus unable to delete directories correctly over WebDAV

2009-07-29 Thread Paddy Launch
Shouldn't there be a semi-automated procedure in launchpad for sending
bug reports upstream? It's a bit much to ask ordinary users to submit a
report twice, isn't it? I suspected this was an upstream bug, but it was
just convenient for me to use the built-in bug reporting feature.

[Bug 402279] [NEW] nautilus unable to delete directories correctly over WebDAV

2009-07-21 Thread Paddy Launch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

1) Ubuntu 8.10
2) nautilus:
  Installed: 1:2.24.1-0ubuntu2

3) When deleting a non-empty folder on a WebDAV mount (either by
selecting it and pressing DEL or by right-clicking and selecting Move
to the Deleted Items Folder) I am asked ... do you want to delete
permanently? to which I respond Delete. I then expect the folder to
disappear silently.

4) However, instead I get a dialog box Error while deleting Not
found for every single file in the folder that I wish to delete. I can
click through with Skip or Skip All and at the end I am left with an
empty folder (which should have been deleted). I then have to delete
the folder again, and again get Error while deleting Not found for
the folder itself. If I click Skip again I find the folder is deleted,
but it still remains visible in nautilus until I press Reload.
