[Bug 1314556] Re: Unable to mount Android MTP device

2016-12-17 Thread Paul Kellner
Same problem. Intermittent, but for the last few days doesn't work. I
have attached the output of numerous cli commands to help
troubleshooting. When I choose PTP mode instead of MTP mode Shotwell
fires up and can receive photos and videos.

One thought is that USB cables are notorious for wearing out on Android
mobile phones. I have had problems because the high charging currents
and cheap cables don't work well together. When new the connectors fit
up well but as time goes by they get looser and looser. Unfortunately
cheap cables are what are commonly available.

[Bug 1630905] [NEW] Loss of lan connection causes applications using gvfsd-sftp to hang until demon is killed

2016-10-06 Thread Paul Kellner
Public bug reported:

This affects an installation of Ubuntu 14.04 on a Lenovo laptop.
When applications like nautilus or Bluefish are connected to a remote fileshare
using sftp (ssh) via a lan connection, if the connection is lost and
re-established the old process seems to hang blocking attempts to save data or
use Nautilus in any way.

This typically occurs when the connection is either lost accidentally or
when the laptop is suspended and then unsuspended causing a loss of
wireless connection.

The workaround is to kill the gvsftp process manually and then recreate
the remote connection using Nautilus.

This bug leads to data loss if, for instance, the laptop is closed
(starting suspend mode) while in the middle of a task that must be
saved.
