[Bug 1988339] [NEW] Ubuntu doesn't change the keyboard layout

2022-08-31 Thread Petr
Public bug reported:

If you have more then 2 layouts then often after restart Ubuntu don't
switch layouts.

I started to see this problem maybe after Ubuntu 20.10(?)

The problem have roots in the installation process. 3 weeks back I
reinstalled Ubuntu Budgie. I choose German layout what was qwertZ.
qwertZ is crazy uncomfortable if you migrate from English qwertY layout.
So I replaced it with Germany qwertY. Now I have (1)English, (2)Russian,
(3)German qwertY . But every second time I restart the laptop I get
German qwertZ!

Here is stackoverflow questions from other users
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/627270/ubuntu-doesnt-change-the-keyboard-layout

A workaround that I found is to open the Region & Language settings and
change the order of the Input Sources. This workaround is temporary, so
next time it happens I need to do that again (in my case is changing the
order of 2 layouts in EN->RU placeholder simply by drag and drop and
when it happens again, switch back RU->EN, so I guess the order itself
doesn't matter).

It's the same. Apport collects info - show all the info in window and
after pres the "send" button it just closes and do nothing. In console
no errors, just terminate.

It is possible to see that info in console instead of graphical window?
Maybe somehow I can copy-paste the summary directly?

[Bug 1673398] Re: A workaround for making a default monitor in multi monitor environment is not working

2017-05-17 Thread Petr Stochl
I can confirm this.
I have fresh install of Ubuntu 17.04 and nVidia card with 2 monitors, one
rotated. I can configure it correctly in gnome-flashback and generate correct
xorg.conf in nvidia-settings, but the rotated secondary monitor is selected as
primary on login screen and is not rotated.
I "fixed" the annoyance by autologin...

There is also a tip to use /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf and put in
[greeter]
active-monitor=0 (probably 1 in my case)
but there is not such file and i am not sure where to put it.
There seems are some workarounds using xrandr and startup scripts.

It would be nice if this could work again.

[Bug 1575657] [NEW] "leave fullscreen", "unmaximize" does not work

2016-04-27 Thread Petr Janecek
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start gnome-terminal.
2. Press F11: gnome-terminal window is now fullscreen.
3. Press F11 again: gnome-terminal window should restore to its original size,
but it is maximized instead -- just the menu bar appears.

Similar thing happens after maximize / unmaximize: the window is not
restored to its original size: window borders appear, but the window is
stretched over the whole screen.

[Bug 1311951] Re: Save dialog New Folder Closes with Shift

2016-04-06 Thread Petr Chmelar
Hi, concerning my last comment #3 - I had the language switch set to Shift L +
Shirt R in Text Entry settings - it did as described above. When I changed this
to Alt + Shift R the behavior is OK.
However, the rename dialogs in Nautilus are still there. Thanks.

[Bug 1311951] Re: Save dialog New Folder Closes with Shift

2016-03-15 Thread Petr Chmelar
This is similar to the bug that happens in 16.04 Xenial 64 beta in nautilus
(create folder, rename it) and also in other programs (Firefox, ...) in the
save dialog - Create Folder. When pressing shift (both left and right) it
closes the renaming/creating field.
In nautilus the renaming dialog is not closed, but the file looses its context.

Second, the rename field in nautilus is still there sometimes when you
go back and it is to rename the parent folder. This behaviour persists
since 14.04 but the shift thing is new.

I can't create a screenshot, because the field closes as I press Print
Screen.

[Bug 1549653] [NEW] Disks utility doesn't remove previous record in /etc/fstab

2016-02-24 Thread Petr Kopac
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce:
1. delete an NTFS partition on secondary disk (rewrite with zeroes).
2. put there EXT4 partition instead.
3. reboot computer
=> ubuntu doesn't boot, allows only single-user mode.

By checking system log, I found out system was trying to mount the old
NTFS partition and hanged on it, even though that is not at all a
necessary partition. Then I checked /etc/fstab and found out the GUI
tool did NOT remove the original record, when it deleted the partition
on the drive.

By commenting it out I was able to get into the GUI again.

Ubuntu 15.10
pkg: gnome-disk-utility 3.16.2-0ubuntu2 0

The original line, that was left behind:
UUID=52D09468D09453D7 /backup ntfsdefaults,umask=007,gid=46 0   0

The new line that the tool created:
/dev/disk/by-uuid/414e95a1-fb40-45a6-9b90-487a45337fdd /extdata auto

[Bug 415320] Re: unlock keyring steals focus (no cursor in overlying window)

2013-04-23 Thread Petr Gladkikh
This issue lingering for quite a while so I would propose to solve it by
replacing keyring unlocking dialog with one that shadows whole screen
leaving only dialog at top. Such dialog is already used elsewhere.

This is not ideal solution since reduces ease of autologin (password is
asked anyway however skippable) but at least behavior is obvious and
straightforward.

2013-04-10 Thread Petr Gladkikh
Additional observations:
1. Custom shortcuts are preserved.
2. Seems that settings are stored in ~/.config/dconf/user and it's content is
changed when I change shortcut preferences. This file stays the same until I
login again.

As an attempt for workaround I changed permissions of
~/.config/dconf/user to read-only and after login this file is
overwritten anyway.

[Bug 1165377] [NEW] Shortcut preferences are discarded after logout

2013-04-06 Thread Petr Gladkikh
Public bug reported:

Changed shortcut preferences are discarded and reset to defaults after re-login
or reboot.
Reproduction:
1. Open preferences: System settings... - Keyboard - Shortcuts
2. Change setting for Windows/Toggle shaded state to something else (e.g.
disable it by pressing backspace)
3. Optionally close preferences window (reproduced without this step also)
4. (New shortcut preference is persisted only until end of current session)
5. Log-out/Login or reboot/Login
6. Preference for shortcut that was changed in previous session is reset to
default one.

Expected behavior:
Changed shortcut preference is persisted for all subsequent sessions until
changed again explicitly by user.

Yes the problem is reproducible every time (with Unity, XFCE and
Cinnamon desktops). In addition to comment #5, the problem apparent to
user is also that the dialog can be minimized and while it sits
secretly in dash or some taskbar the whole desktop looks not functioning
- windows do not react to mouse clicks and keybord shortcuts have no
effect.

[Bug 13983] Re: Evolution virtual trash / real trash on IMAP server

2010-03-17 Thread Petr Leiman
I do not see what is the problem with having Evo direct deleted messages
into an IMAP folder. Please, can anyone explain how this is different
from the action of moving the messages from one folder into another???

One can move messages into the IMAP Deleted Items (or whatever the name
of it) folder _manually_ in the current implementation of Evo, but this
is simply _does_not_make_sense! All other mail clients do this with a
push of a button...

This problem is simply so obvious that it is beyond bizarre how this
'bug' could have persisted for 5 years. Especially in light of the fact
that fixing it does not require writing any new code (ok, maybe 5
lines).

[Bug 89983] Re: Feisty reports suspend failed after resuming from suspend

2009-09-25 Thread Petr Vandrovec
Just in case you can reproduce this on any system which supports
hibernate but does not support sleep. Responsible code is this:

static void
idle_do_sleep (GpmManager *manager)
...
} else if (strcmp (action, ACTION_SUSPEND) == 0) {
gpm_info_explain_reason (manager-priv-info, GPM_EVENT_SUSPEND,
_(Suspending computer.), _(System
idle.));
ret = gpm_control_suspend (manager-priv-control, error);
if (!ret) {
egg_warning (cannot suspend (error: %s), so trying
hibernate, error-message);
g_error_free (error);
error = NULL;
ret = gpm_control_hibernate (manager-priv-control,
error);
if (!ret) {
egg_warning (cannot suspend or hibernate: %s,
error-message);
g_error_free (error);
}
}

} else if (strcmp (action, ACTION_HIBERNATE) == 0) {

It appears to throw away errors from gpm_control_suspend, falling
through to gpm_control_hibernate - but unfortunately gpm_control_suspend
does not check whether can_suspend is TRUE - it blindly issues suspend,
and if it fails, it signals sleep-error - causing error message to pop
up after computer is waken up from hibernate.

Also gpm_manager_suspend() checks inhibit on hibernate, not suspend,
but unfortunately fixing that won't help here :-(

gnome-power-manager 2.24.4 still suffers from this problem. If you are
looking for platform where you can investigate this behavior, try
VMware's VMs - only S1 S4 is supported there, so you get hibernate +
suspend error on them.

[Bug 425268] [NEW] while log in, the message One or more disks are failing apears, but RAID1 disks seem to be OK

2009-09-06 Thread Petr Jakes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

I am using mdadm RAID1 created during the instalation using alternate
CD.

After log in, the window with the message One or more disks are
failing appears, the session starts properly, but there is small disk
icon in the Notification Area (see attached screenshot).

When click on the name of the disk, the Palimpsest application starts
and all disks are without errors. When closed, the disk icon stays in
the Notification Area.

devkit-disks --show-info /dev/sda
devkit-disks --show-info /dev/sdb

the same command for the /dev/md0, /dev/md1, /dev/sda1, /dev/sda5, /dev/sdb1,
/dev/sdb5
does not return any error.

screen on my computer (nvidia 6150 onboard graphics). Safe gfx mode
selected on startup didn't help. I can hear the login sound but then Num

Sebastien Bacher píše v Po 29. 06. 2009 v 11:53 +0200:
 Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
 better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
 with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport
 report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic
 retracer.

  If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
 in /etc/default/apport and restart.

  If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
 and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash
 report you wish to submit.

  If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
 /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in
 a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to
 report.
  I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
 automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
 efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

When trying to extract a CD without supplying the Artist name the
following error is displayed:

Sound Juicer could not extract this CD.
Reason: Failed to create output directory:
Error creating directory: Permission denied

This message is quite confusing, as there is no problem with
permissions, just the missing Artist. Solution for this issue
could be to provide an Uknown Artist default value, or just omit
the Artist from the relative path to be used for the extraction.

Similarly when neither a Title or an Artist are specified, another
irrelevant message is displayed:

Sound Juicer could not extract this CD.
Reason: Could not open resource for reading.

Sound Juicer could not extract this CD.
Reason: Error starting ripping pipeline

Steps to reproduce:

1. Preferences - Folder hiearchy - Artist, Title
2. Insert an audio CD
3. Blank the Artist text box (or Title as well)
4. Hit the [Extract] button

sound-juicer version: 2.26.1-0ubuntu1

[Bug 316675] Re: Broken deps for evolution-data-server

2009-01-18 Thread Petr Kopač
thx for your answer; I used standard tools and was wondering, why the
update-manager wanted to uninstall evolution, but it's supposed to be
automatic, so I let do it. But then I wasn't able to install it manually and
wrote this. I though that the manager isn't supposed to uninstall applications,
but just update them (e.g. every time it installs a new kernel I have to
manually remove the older one).
The installation is possible and working again now.

[Bug 257774] Re: gdm user switching issue

2008-08-14 Thread Petr Stehlik
Sebastien, this is on onboard Geforce 6150 using proprietary nVidia
driver.

BTW, a workaround for this issue is to try out Alt+Ctrl+F7/8/9/10/.. at
step 5) when there is the normal login prompt on screen and user 'B'
wants to get into his/her session. If the user 'B' has really been
logged in already then his/her console is running somewhere at F7-Fx.
What I am reporting here is that gdm (or who) does not switch to that
console automatically.

IMHO it should work as follows: whenever any user logs out the gdm
should try to locate any other running console. It normally works when
second or subsequently logged in user logs out but it doesn't seem to
work when the user-that-logged-in-_first_ logs out.

Thanks.

[Bug 257774] Re: gdm user switching issue

2008-08-14 Thread Petr Stehlik
The opensource nv driver doesn't work on the onboard graphics but I have
just tried the same steps on a different computer with ATI Rage Mobility
graphics and the behavior is exactly the same. Although it didn't
freeze and seemed to be usable the gdm popup sound (not the login sound,
that was my mistake in the original bug report) was repeated endlessly
in the running session.

I also tried with three different users (A, B, C - logged in in this
order) and it was quite interesting but unnecessarily complicated to
explain and debug. The two users case is simple and reproducible easily:

1) log A in
2) switch to B
3) switch to A
4) log A out - expected lock screen of user B session but got regular login
prompt
5) log B in - gdm popup sound is repeated, with some gfx drivers the desktop
is unusably slow

There is also an interesting artefact when the user B logs out at last -
the gdm prompt that appears is then asking for a password and it's not
clear for which user it is. But I think this is just another sign of the
problem in the step 5 when the login of B tries to reuse the existing
session.

Thanks.

I don't know what driver is used on the ATI - the xorg.conf's Configured Video
Device section is completely empty. In the proprietary drivers there is
nothing about video (just the wifi).
The Xorg.0.log contains lines 'Load driver ati' and 'Load driver mach64'.
Does this information help? Or how can I find out what driver does it use?

[Bug 257774] [NEW] gdm user switching issue

2008-08-13 Thread Petr Stehlik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Running cleanly installed and up-to-date Ubuntu 8.04.1.

I am actually unsure what package this bug belongs to: either gdm or
fast-user-switch-applet or even gnome-screensaver so please fix the
right package relation.

Consider a desktop shared by several people, for example a family
computer. Users 'A' and 'B' have accounts there. When switching between
users the machine can freeze with login sound repeated forever.

Steps to reproduce:

1) user 'A' logs in first
2) user 'B' logs in using the fast-user-switch applet
3) user 'A' becomes active again after using the fast-user-switch-applet in the
'B' desktop and entering his/her password to unlock the 'A' session
4) then the user 'A' logs out
5) user 'B' tries to log back in (eventhough the 'B' is logged in already)

Expected is to get to the X11 screen where the last user was logged in,
i.e. 'B' desktop, naturally password protected as always.

What happened? When user 'A' logs out in step 4) it should have switched
to the locked screen of 'B' and so offer a dialog for entering the
password thus unlocking the 'B' session. Instead, normal GDM login
dialog is presented (asking for both name an password) and when user 'B'
tries to log in they get to their desktop but it is sort of freezed, the
login sound repeates over and over and everything is slow to death.

Thanks for looking into this.

[Bug 242618] Re: Nautilus and other gnome apps using incorrect umask for new directories

2008-07-13 Thread Petr Stehlik
Sebastien, do you really want more people to open the same bug to
increase priority of this? It is really a problem for many people - for
example imagine two (or more) users sharing the same computer - they
can't even sort out photos or music or anything (if one creates a folder
with common files like photos or music the others can't rename or delete
files in that folder).

Besides that, #241198 looks very much like duplicate of this bug so more
people are suffering, including me and my friends that I convinced to
switch from Windows to Ubuntu..

And there are more:
http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/item/200/
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+question/36843

I would really like to see this fixed ASAP as it's clearly a bug that
makes using the computer cumbersome (which is not what Ubuntu is about,
I believe).

Thanks!
