[Bug 1988339] [NEW] Ubuntu doesn't change the keyboard layout
Public bug reported: If you have more then 2 layouts then often after restart Ubuntu don't switch layouts. I started to see this problem maybe after Ubuntu 20.10(?) The problem have roots in the installation process. 3 weeks back I reinstalled Ubuntu Budgie. I choose German layout what was qwertZ. qwertZ is crazy uncomfortable if you migrate from English qwertY layout. So I replaced it with Germany qwertY. Now I have (1)English, (2)Russian, (3)German qwertY . But every second time I restart the laptop I get German qwertZ! Here is stackoverflow questions from other users https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/627270/ubuntu-doesnt-change-the-keyboard-layout A workaround that I found is to open the Region & Language settings and change the order of the Input Sources. This workaround is temporary, so next time it happens I need to do that again (in my case is changing the order of 2 layouts in EN->RU placeholder simply by drag and drop and when it happens again, switch back RU->EN, so I guess the order itself doesn't matter). [Bug 1983508] Re: Moving windows between monitors with different scaling causes isues
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected wayland-session ** Description changed: When two displays are connected and one has a 200% scaling, moving apps between them results in several issues: Apps that can actively scale (such as native Nautilus, Settings...): When dragging the window around, it automatically adjusts scaling based on on which of the monitors is the majority of the app (this is probably correct behaviour), BUT when using keyboard shortcuts [Ctrl] + [Super] + ←/↑/↓/→, fullscreen windows jump around and scale correctly, but half-full screen apps (arranged by [Super] + ←/→) cannot go from the larger monitor to the smaller, they get stuck in the scaled-up version and don't fit on the smaller display. Small non-maximized windows don't have this issue, possibly because when they first move in their scaled-up state, they do fit on the smaller monitor still, and only then are they scaled down. Apps that don't support changes in scaling and only apply the new scaling on a relaunch (such as Chrome) don't have these issues, but they obviously have that other problem. This is similar to the bug that happens in 16.04 Xenial 64 beta in nautilus (create folder, rename it) and also in other programs (Firefox, ...) in the save dialog - Create Folder. When pressing shift (both left and right) it closes the renaming/creating field. In nautilus the renaming dialog is not closed, but the file looses its context. Second, the rename field in nautilus is still there sometimes when you go back and it is to rename the parent folder. This behaviour persists since 14.04 but the shift thing is new. Public bug reported: How to reproduce: 1. delete an NTFS partition on secondary disk (rewrite with zeroes). 2. put there EXT4 partition instead. 3. reboot computer => ubuntu doesn't boot, allows only single-user mode. [Bug 1165377] [NEW] Shortcut preferences are discarded after logout
Public bug reported: Changed shortcut preferences are discarded and reset to defaults after re-login or reboot. Reproduction: 1. Open preferences: System settings... - Keyboard - Shortcuts 2. Change setting for Windows/Toggle shaded state to something else (e.g. disable it by pressing backspace) 3. Optionally close preferences window (reproduced without this step also) 4. (New shortcut preference is persisted only until end of current session) 5. Log-out/Login or reboot/Login 6. Preference for shortcut that was changed in previous session is reset to default one. Yes the problem is reproducible every time (with Unity, XFCE and Cinnamon desktops). [Bug 89983] Re: Feisty reports suspend failed after resuming from suspend
Just in case you can reproduce this on any system which supports hibernate but does not support sleep. Responsible code is this: static void idle_do_sleep (GpmManager *manager) ... } else if (strcmp (action, ACTION_SUSPEND) == 0) { gpm_info_explain_reason (manager-priv-info, GPM_EVENT_SUSPEND, _(Suspending computer.), _(System idle.)); ret = gpm_control_suspend (manager-priv-control, error); if (!ret) { egg_warning (cannot suspend (error: %s), so trying hibernate, error-message); g_error_free (error); error = NULL; ret = gpm_control_hibernate (manager-priv-control, error); if (!ret) { egg_warning (cannot suspend or hibernate: %s, error-message); g_error_free (error); } } } else if (strcmp (action, ACTION_HIBERNATE) == 0) { It appears to throw away errors from gpm_control_suspend, falling through to gpm_control_hibernate - but unfortunately gpm_control_suspend does not check whether can_suspend is TRUE - it blindly issues suspend, and if it fails, it signals sleep-error - causing error message to pop up after computer is waken up from hibernate. Also gpm_manager_suspend() checks inhibit on hibernate, not suspend, but unfortunately fixing that won't help here :-( gnome-power-manager 2.24.4 still suffers from this problem. Sebastien Bacher píše v Po 29. 06. 2009 v 11:53 +0200: Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. [Bug 257774] Re: gdm user switching issue
Sebastien, this is on onboard Geforce 6150 using proprietary nVidia driver. BTW, a workaround for this issue is to try out Alt+Ctrl+F7/8/9/10/.. at step 5) when there is the normal login prompt on screen and user 'B' wants to get into his/her session. If the user 'B' has really been logged in already then his/her console is running somewhere at F7-Fx. What I am reporting here is that gdm (or who) does not switch to that console automatically. IMHO it should work as follows: whenever any user logs out the gdm should try to locate any other running console. It normally works when second or subsequently logged in user logs out but it doesn't seem to work when the user-that-logged-in-_first_ logs out. [Bug 257774] Re: gdm user switching issue
The opensource nv driver doesn't work on the onboard graphics but I have just tried the same steps on a different computer with ATI Rage Mobility graphics and the behavior is exactly the same. Although it didn't freeze and seemed to be usable the gdm popup sound (not the login sound, that was my mistake in the original bug report) was repeated endlessly in the running session. I also tried with three different users (A, B, C - logged in in this order) and it was quite interesting but unnecessarily complicated to explain and debug. The two users case is simple and reproducible easily: 1) log A in 2) switch to B 3) switch to A 4) log A out - expected lock screen of user B session but got regular login prompt 5) log B in - gdm popup sound is repeated, with some gfx drivers the desktop is unusably slow There is also an interesting artefact when the user B logs out at last - the gdm prompt that appears is then asking for a password and it's not clear for which user it is. But I think this is just another sign of the problem in the step 5 when the login of B tries to reuse the existing session. BTW, will this be distributed via the regular security updates or do I need to enable the proposed updates to everyone affected by this bug? -- Nautilus and other gnome apps using incorrect umask for new directories https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/242618 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 257774] [NEW] gdm user switching issue
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Running cleanly installed and up-to-date Ubuntu 8.04.1. I am actually unsure what package this bug belongs to: either gdm or fast-user-switch-applet or even gnome-screensaver so please fix the right package relation. Consider a desktop shared by several people, for example a family computer. Users 'A' and 'B' have accounts there. When switching between users the machine can freeze with login sound repeated forever. Steps to reproduce: 1) user 'A' logs in first 2) user 'B' logs in using the fast-user-switch applet 3) user 'A' becomes active again after using the fast-user-switch-applet in the 'B' desktop and entering his/her password to unlock the 'A' session 4) then the user 'A' logs out 5) user 'B' tries to log back in (eventhough the 'B' is logged in already) Expected is to get to the X11 screen where the last user was logged in, i.e. 'B' desktop, naturally password protected as always. What happened? When user 'A' logs out in step 4) it should have switched to the locked screen of 'B' and so offer a dialog for entering the password thus unlocking the 'B' session. Instead, normal GDM login dialog is presented (asking for both name an password) and when user 'B' tries to log in they get to their desktop but it is sort of freezed, the login sound repeates over and over and everything is slow to death. Thanks for looking into this. ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gdm user switching issue https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/257774 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 242618] Re: Nautilus and other gnome apps using incorrect umask for new directories
Sebastien, do you really want more people to open the same bug to increase priority of this? It is really a problem for many people - for example imagine two (or more) users sharing the same computer - they can't even sort out photos or music or anything (if one creates a folder with common files like photos or music the others can't rename or delete files in that folder). Besides that, #241198 looks very much like duplicate of this bug so more people are suffering, including me and my friends that I convinced to switch from Windows to Ubuntu.. And there are more: http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/item/200/ https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+question/36843 I would really like to see this fixed ASAP as it's clearly a bug that makes using the computer cumbersome (which is not what Ubuntu is about, I believe).
